  • Measurement of vertical bar Vcb vertical bar using the semileptonic decay (B)d(0))over-bar -> D*+l(-)(nu)over-barl
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer. - 1434-6044. ; 33:2, s. 213-232
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Data from Z decays in DELPHI have been searched for <(B-d(o))over bar> --> D*+ l(-) (ν) over bar (l) with the D*+ decaying to D(0)pi(+) and D-0 --> K(-)pi(+), K(-)pi(+)pi(+)pi(-) or K- pi(+)(pi(0)). These events are used to measure the CKM matrix element V-cb and the form factor slope, rho(A1)(2): F-D*(1) V-cb = 0.0392 +/- 0.0018 +/- 0.0023; rho(A1)(2) = 1.32 +/- 0.15 +/- 0.33 corresponding to a branching fraction: BR(<(B-d(0))over bar> --> D(*+)l(-)(ν) over bar (l)) = (5.90 +/- 0.22 +/- 0.50)%. Combining these and previous DELPHI measurements gives: FD*(1)V-cb = 0.0377 +/- 0.0011 +/- 0.0019, rho(A1)(2) = 1.39 +/- 0.10 +/- 0.33 and BR(<(B-d(0))over bar> --> D(*+)l(-)(ν) over bar (l)) = (5.39 +/- 0.11 +/- 0.34)% Using F-D*(1) = 0.91 +/- 0.04, yields: V-cb = 0.0414 +/- 0.0012(stat.) +/- 0.0021(syst.) +/- 0.0018 (theory). The b-quark semileptonic branching fraction into a D*+ emitted from higher mass charmed excited states has also been measured to be: BR(b --> D*+ Xl(-)(ν) over bar (l)) = (0.67 +/- 0.08 +/- 0.10)%.

  • Search for B-s(0)-(B-s(0))over-bar oscillations in DELPHI using high-p(t) leptons
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer. - 1434-6044. ; 35:1, s. 35-52
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oscillations in the B-s(0)- <(B-s(0))over bar> system were studied in events selected from about 4.3 million hadronic Z(0) decays registered by DELPHI between 1992 and 2000. This paper presents updates of two published analyses ([11, 12]). The first analysis, which utilizes leptons emitted with large momentum transverse to a jet, was improved by means of a better algorithm for the vertex reconstuction and a new algorithm for flavour-tagging at production time. The second analysis, which utilizes D-s-lepton events, was improved by optimizing the treatment of proper time resolution. No signal of B-s(0) oscillations was observed and limits on the mass difference between the physical B-s(0) states were obtained to be: Deltam(s)>8.0 ps-1 at the 95% C.L. with a sensitivity of Deltam(s)= 9.1 ps(-1) in the high p(t) lepton analysis and Deltam(s)>4.9 ps(-1) at the 95% C.L. with a sensitivity of Deltam(s)=8.6 ps(-1) in the D-s-lepton analysis. Previously published results on these analyses are superseded. The combination of these results with those obtained in other independent analyses previously performed in DELPHI (D-s-hadron, exclusive B-s(0), inclusive vertex) gives: Deltam(s)>8.5 ps(-1) at the 95% C.L. with a sensitivity of Deltam(s)=12.0 ps(-1).

  • Search for fermiophobic Higgs bosons in final states with photons at LEP 2
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer. - 1434-6044. ; 35:3, s. 313-324
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Higgs boson production with subsequent decay to photons was searched for in the data collected by the DELPHI detector at centre-of-mass energies between 183 GeV and 209 GeV, corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of nearly 650 pb(-1). No evidence for a signal was found, and limits were set on h(0)Z(0) and h(0)A(0) production with h(0) decay to photons. These results were used to exclude regions in the parameter space of fermiophobic scenarios of Two Higgs Doublet Models.

  • Search for supersymmetric particles assuming R-parity non-conservation in e(+)e(-) collisions at root s=192 to 208 GeV
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer. - 1434-6044. ; 36:1, s. 1-23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Searches for pair-production of supersymmetric particles under the assumption of non-conservation of R-parity with a dominant LL (E) over bar or (U) over bar(D) over bar(D) over bar term have been performed using the data collected by the DELPHI experiment at LEP in e(+)e(-) collisions at centre-of-mass energies from 192 up to 208 GeV. No excess of data above Standard Model expectations was observed. The results were used to constrain the MSSM parameter space and to derive limits on the masses of supersymmetric particles.

  • Search for SUSY in the AMSB scenario with the DELPHI detector
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer. - 1434-6044. ; 34:2, s. 145-156
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The DELPHI experiment at the LEP e (+) e(-) collider collected almost 700 pb(-1) at centre-of-mass energies above the Z(0) mass pole and up to 208 GeV. Those data were used to search for SUSY in the Anomaly Mediated SUSY Breaking (AMSB) scenario with a flavour independent common sfermion mass parameter. The searches covered several possible signatures experimentally accessible at LEP, with either the neutralino, the sneutrino or the stau being the Lightest Supersymmetric Particle (LSP). They included: the search for nearly mass-degenerate chargino and neutralino, which is a typical feature of AMSB; the search for Standard-Model-like or invisibly decaying Higgs boson; the search for stable staus; the search for cascade decays of SUSY particles resulting in the LSP and a low multiplicity final state containing neutrinos. No evidence of a signal was found, and thus constraints were set in the space of the parameters of the model.

  • Searches for invisibly decaying Higgs bosonswith the DELPHI detector at LEP
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer. - 1434-6044. ; 32:4, s. 475-492
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Searches for HZ production with the Higgs boson decaying into an invisible final state were performed using the data collected by the DELPHI experiment at centre-of-mass energies between 188 GeV and 209 GeV. Both hadronic and leptonic final states of the Z boson were analysed. In addition to the search for a heavy Higgs boson, a dedicated search for a light Higgs boson down to 40 GeV/c(2) was performed. No signal was found. Assuming the Standard Model HZ production cross-section, the mass limit for invisibly decaying Higgs bosons is 112.1 GeV/c(2) at 95% confidence level. An interpretation in the Minimal Supersymmetric extension of the Standard Model (MSSM) and in a Majoron model is also given.

  • Searches for neutral Higgs bosons in extended models
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer. - 1434-6044. ; 38:1, s. 1-28
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Searches for neutral Higgs bosons produced at LEP in association with Z bosons, in pairs and in the Yukawa process are presented in this paper. Higgs boson decays into b quarks, tau leptons, or other Higgs bosons are considered, giving rise to four-b, four-b+jets, six-b and four-tau final states, as well as mixed modes with b quarks and tau leptons. The whole mass domain kinematically accessible at LEP in these topologies is searched. The analysed data set covers both the LEP1 and LEP2 energy ranges and exploits most of the luminosity recorded by the DELPHI experiment. No convincing evidence for a signal is found, and results are presented in the form of mass-dependent upper bounds on coupling factors (in units of model-independent reference cross-sections) for all processes, allowing interpretation of the data in a large class of models.

  • The measurement of alpha(8) from event shapes with the DELPHI detector at the highest LEP energies
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. Particles and Fields. - : Springer. - 1434-6044. ; 37:1, s. 1-23
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hadronic event shape distributions are determined from data in e(+)e(-) collisions between 183 and 207 GeV. From these the strong coupling alpha(s) is extracted in O(alpha(s)(2)), NLLA and matched O(alpha(s)(2))+ NLLA theory. Hadronisation corrections evaluated with fragmentation model generators as well as an analytical power ansatz are applied. Comparing these measurements to those obtained at and around M-Z allows a combined measurement of alpha(s) from all DELPHI data and a test of the energy dependence of the strong coupling.

  • Crossing the dripline to N-11 using elastic resonance scattering
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 6203:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The level structure of the unbound nucleus N-11 has been studied by C-10+p elastic resonance scattering in inverse geometry with the LISE3 spectrometer at GANIL, using a C-10 beam with an energy of 9.0 MeV/ nucleon. An additional measurement was done at the A1200 spectrometer at MSU. The excitation function above the C-10+p threshold has been determined up to 5 MeV. A potential-model analysis revealed three resonance states at energies 1.27(-0.05)(+0.18) MeV (Gamma = 1.44 +/- 0.2 MeV), 2.01(-0.05)(+0.15) MeV (Gamma = 0.84 +/- 0.2 MeV), and 3.75 +/- 0.05 MeV (Gamma = 0.60 +/- 0.05 MeV) with the spin-parity assignments I-pi=1/2+,1/2,-,5/2+, respectively. Hence, N-11 is shown to have a ground state parity inversion completely analogous to its mirror partner Be-11. A narrow resonance in the excitation function at 4.33 +/- 0.05 MeV was also observed and assigned spin parity 3/2-.

  • Phospholipase C is required for the control of stomatal aperture by ABA
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Plant Journal. - : Wiley-Blackwell. - 1365-313X. ; 34:1, s. 47-55
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The calcium-releasing second messenger inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate is involved in the regulation of stomatal aperture by ABA. In other signalling pathways, inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate is generated by the action of phospholipase C. We have studied the importance of phospholipase C in guard cell ABA-signalling pathways. Immunolocalisation of a calcium-activated phospholipase C confirmed the presence of phospholipase C in tobacco guard cells. Transgenic tobacco plants with considerably reduced levels of phospholipase C in their guard cells were only partially able to regulate their stomatal apertures in response to ABA. These results suggest that phospholipase C is involved in the amplification of the calcium signal responsible for reductions in stomatal aperture in response to ABA. As full ABA-induced inhibition of stomatal opening was not observed, our results support a role for the action of other calcium-releasing second messengers in the guard cell ABA-signalling pathway. It is not known whether these different calcium-releasing second messengers act in the same or parallel ABA-signalling pathways.
