  • Isobaric analog resonances of Mg-31 and the border of the island of inversion
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - 0556-2813 .- 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993. ; 90:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The evolution of the nuclear shell structure in the region of the neutron-rich shell-breaking nucleus Mg-32 has been the subject of considerable interest. We present here the first determination of the overlap of the ground and two first excited states in Mg-31 with a neutron coupled to the ground state in Mg-30 based on studies of its isobaric analog resonances in Al-31. The excitation function for proton resonant elastic scattering on Mg-30 was measured close to 0 degrees in the laboratory frame by bombarding a thick polyethylene target with a Mg-30 beam at an energy of 2.92 MeV/nucleon at the REX-ISOLDE facility at CERN. Three resonances were successfully resolved, and angular momenta and total and proton resonance widths were determined by using R-matrix analysis. The deduced spectroscopic factor for the ground state in Mg-31 is consistent with the shell-model calculation, whereas those for the first and second excited states could not be reproduced. These results show that a drastic change in structure occurs between Mg-30 and Mg-31 and that the onset of structural change in this region therefore occurs between these two isotopes.

  • Homogeneous superconductivity at the LaAlO3/SrTiO3 interface probed by nanoscale transport
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Physical Review B. - 2469-9969 .- 2469-9950. ; 96:18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An interface between LaAlO3 and SrTiO3 (LAO/STO) may host two-dimensional superconductivity, strong spin-orbit coupling, and magnetic ordering. There are indications that the interfacial superconducting layer is nonhomogeneous at the nanoscale. The presence of inhomogeneities may have strong implications on the superconducting transport properties and lead to formation of weak links between superconducting regions. In this paper, we report on the temperature and magnetic field dependence of superconducting transport in single nanowires and nanorings fabricated in a LAO/STO interface. The analysis of data proves that our nanostructures behave like uniform superconducting filaments carrying a critical current close to the theoretical Ginzburg-Landau depairing limit. Furthermore, we unexpectedly find an enhancement of the critical current of LAO/STO nanowires and nanorings at low temperature when a magnetic field is applied. Our results point towards the coexistence of a homogeneous interfacial superconductivity and spatially separated magnetism at the LAO/STO interface.

  • Benchmarking the PreSPEC@GSI experiment for Coulex-multipolarimetry on the π(p3/2) → π(p1/2) spin-flip transition in 85Br
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal A. Hadrons and Nuclei. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-601X. ; 56:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A first performance test of the Coulomb excitation multipolarimetry (Coulex-multipolarimetry) method is presented. It is based on a 85Br πp3/2 → πp1/2 spin-flip experiment performed as part of the PreSPEC-AGATA campaign at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung (GSI). Via determination of background levels around the expected 85Br excitations as well as measured 197Au excitations, an upper limit for the M1 transition strength of the 1/2- → 3/2- g.s. transition in 85Br and a lower beam time limit for upcoming experimental campaigns utilizing Coulex-multipolarimetry have been inferred. The impact of the use of AGATA in its anticipated 1π configuration on these estimates is deduced via Geant4 simulations.

  • Y-Ba-Cu-O Nanostripes for Optical Photon Detection
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering. - : SPIE. - 0277-786X .- 1996-756X. - 9781628416251 ; 9504
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nanowires of Y-Ba-Cu-O, with the thickness of 50 nm and the width ranging from 90 nm to 500 nm have been successfully grown on lanthanum aluminate substrates for photon detection experiments. The nanowires were up to 10-mu m long and formed a meander structure, covering the area of up to 30x10 mu m(2) with a fill factor of 50%. The samples were excited using optical laser pulses at a 1550 nm wavelength and resulting photoresponse signals were measured as a function of both temperature and normalized bias current. Presence of two, distinct regimes in the photoresponse temperature dependence has been clearly evidenced, suggesting different physical mechanisms of the signal formation. Presented experimental results shed new light on prospects of implementation of high-temperature superconducting oxides in photon detection and counting.

  • Elucidating the nature of the proton radioactivity and branching ratio on the first proton emitter discovered 53mCo
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nature Communications. - 2041-1723. ; 14
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The observation of a weak proton-emission branch in the decay of the 3174keV 53mCo isomeric state marked the discovery of proton radioactivity in atomic nuclei in 1970. Here we show, based on the partial half-lives and the decay energies of the possible proton-emission branches, that the exceptionally high angular momentum barriers, lp = 9 and lp = 7, play a key role in hindering the proton radioactivity from 53mCo, making them very challenging to observe and calculate. Indeed, experiments had to wait decades for significant advances in accelerator facilities and multi-faceted state-of-the-art decay stations to gain full access to all observables. Combining data taken with the TASISpec decay station at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä, Finland, and the ACTAR TPC device on LISE3 at GANIL, France, we measured their branching ratios as bp1 = 1.3(1)% and bp2 = 0.025(4)%. These results were compared to cutting-edge shell-model and barrier penetration calculations. This description reproduces the order of magnitude of the branching ratios and partial half-lives, despite their very small spectroscopic factors.

  • Transport and noise properties of YBCO nanowire based nanoSQUIDs
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Superconductor Science and Technology. - : IOP Publishing. - 0953-2048 .- 1361-6668. ; 32:7
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The development of quantum limited magnetic flux sensors has recently gained a lot of attention for the possibility of detecting the magnetic moment of nanoscaled systems. Here, the ultimate goal is the observation of a single spin. Such sensors are of fundamental importance for applications, ranging from spintronics and spin-based quantum information processing, to fundamental studies of nano-magnetism in molecules and magnetic nanoclusters. A nano-scale superconducting quantum interference device (nanoSQUID) is indeed a promising candidate to reach this ambitious goal. Nanowires, fabricated of high critical temperature superconductors (HTS), have been shown to be a valid candidate for the realization of nanoSQUIDs. A crucial requirement to achieve the necessary flux sensitivity and spatial resolution, is a SQUID loop on the nanometer scale. Moreover, HTS nanowire-based SQUIDs in combination with large area pickup loops or flux transformers might become instrumental in magnetometer applications, such as magneto encephalography and low field magnetic resonance imaging, where low intrinsic magnetic field noise is required. In this review we will give a survey on the state of the art of YBa2Cu3O7-delta thin film nanowires and their implementation in low noise nanoSQUIDs and magnetometers.
