  • The unbound isotopes He-9,He-10
  • 2010
  • In: Nuclear Physics A. - Elsevier : Elsevier BV. - 0375-9474 .- 1873-1554. ; 842:1-4, s. 15-32
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The unbound nuclei He-9 and He-10 have been produced in proton-knockout reactions from a 280 MeV/u Li-11 beam impinging on a liquid hydrogen target at the ALADIN-LAND setup at GSI. Information on their nuclear structure has been obtained from the relative-energy spectra, He-8 + n and He-8 + 2n, employing reaction models incorporating the structure of Li-11. The (8H)e + n relative-energy spectrum is dominated by a strong peak-like structure at low energy, which may be interpreted within the effective-range approximation as the result of an s-wave interaction with a neutron scattering length of -3.17(66) fm. This spectrum also shows evidence for resonance states at 1.33(8) MeV and at 2.4 MeV above the He-8 + n threshold. It is argued that the s-state might not be the He-9 ground state. For He-8 + n + n, the analysis of the relative-energy spectrum gives two alternative possibilities for an interpretation: either a narrow resonance at 1.42(10) MeV (Gamma = 1.11(76) MeV) superimposed on a correlated background, or two overlapping resonances, a ground state at 1.54(11) MeV (Gamma = 1.91(41) MeV) together with an excited state at 3.99(26) MeV (Gamma = 1.64(89) MeV). The two possible interpretations are discussed. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Exploring the anomaly in the interaction cross section and matter radius of 23O
  • 2011
  • In: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993 .- 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 84:6, s. art. no. 061304(R)-
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • New measurements of the interaction cross sections of 22,23O at 900A MeV performed at the GSI, Darmstadt are reported that address the unsolved puzzle of the large cross section previously observed for 23O. The matter radii for these oxygen isotopes extracted through a Glauber model analysis are in good agreement with the new predictions of the ab initio coupled-cluster theory reported here. They are consistent with a 22O+neutron description of 23O as well.

  • Matter radii of 32-35Mg
  • 2011
  • In: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 2469-9985 .- 2469-9993 .- 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 83:2
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The interaction cross sections of Mg32-35 at 900A MeV have been measurmed using the fragment separator at GSI. The deviation from the r(0)A(1/3) trend is slightly larger for Mg-35, signaling the possible formation of a longer tail in the neutron distribution for Mg-35. The radii extracted from a Glauber model analysis with Fermi densities are consistent with models predicting the development of neutron skins.

  • One-Neutron Removal Measurement Reveals O-24 as a New Doubly Magic Nucleus
  • 2009
  • In: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114 .- 0031-9007. ; 102:15
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The first measurement of the momentum distribution for one-neutron removal from O-24 at 920A MeV performed at GSI, Darmstadt is reported. The observed distribution has a width (FWHM) of 99 +/- 4 MeV/c in the projectile rest frame and a one-neutron removal cross section of 63 +/- 7 mb. The results are well explained with a nearly pure 2s(1/2) neutron spectroscopic factor of 1.74 +/- 0.19 within the eikonal model. This large s-wave probability shows a spherical shell closure thereby confirming earlier suggestions that O-24 is a new doubly magic nucleus.

  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The first reaction spectroscopy oil the ground state structure of Mg-33 through the measurement of the longitudinal momentum distribution from the one-neutron removal reaction Using a C target at 898A MeV is reported The experiment was performed at the FRS, GSI The distribution has a relatively narrow width (150 +/- 3 MeV/c (FWHM)) and the one-neutron removal cross-section is 74 +/- 4 mb An increased contribution from the (2)p(3/2) orbital is required to explain the observation showing its lowering compared to existing model predictions This provides new information regarding the configuration of Mg-33 and the island of inversion (C) 2010 Elsevier B V All rights reserved

  • Recommissioning of JYFLTRAP at the new IGISOL-4 facility
  • 2013
  • In: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section B. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-583X .- 1872-9584. ; 317:Part B, s. 506-509
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The JYFLTRAP double Penning-trap system was moved to a new location along with the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-line (IGISOL) facility at the Accelerator Laboratory of the University of Jyväskylä. The move made it possible to upgrade various parts of the facility. For example, separate beam lines for JYFLTRAP and the collinear laser spectroscopy station were constructed after the radio-frequency quadrupole cooler and buncher. In this contribution we give an overview of the new JYFLTRAP facility and results from the first stable ion-beam tests.

  • Measurement of interaction cross-sections for neutron-rich Na isotopes
  • 2011
  • In: Acta Physica Polonica B. - : Jagellonian University. - 0587-4254 .- 1509-5770. ; 42:3-4, s. 765-768
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The interaction cross-sections (σI) of neutron-rich Na isotopes, 23-35Na, on C target have been measured at 250A MeV using the RI beam factory (RIBF) at RIKEN. Mass dependence of σI for 27-35Na suggests monotonic growth of the skin thickness. The root-mean-square nuclear matter radii (rm) of 23-35Na were deduced from observed σI via a Glauber-type calculation. These rm are in a good agreement with the theoretical prediction by relativistic mean field model (RMF). rm of 33-35Na were determined for the first time.

  • Development and Initial Validation of a Stochastic Discrete Event Simulation to Assess Disaster Preparedness
  • 2019
  • In: Prehospital and Disaster Medicine. - : Cambridge University Press. - 1049-023X .- 1945-1938. ; 34:1, s. 118-118
  • Journal article (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • Introduction:Assessing disaster preparedness in a given region is a complex problem. Current methods are often resource-intensive and may lack generalizability beyond a specific scenario. Computer-based stochastic simulations may be an additional method but would require systems that are valid, flexible, and easy to use. Emergo Train System (ETS) is an analog simulation system used for disaster preparedness assessments.Aim:To digitalize the ETS model and develop stochastic simulation software for improved disaster preparedness assessments. Methods:A simulation software was developed in C#. The simulation model was based on ETS. Preliminary verification and validation (V&V) tests were performed, including unit and integration testing, trace validation, and a comparison to a prior analog ETS disaster preparedness assessment exercise. Results:The software contains medically validated patients from ETS and is capable of automatically running disaster scenarios with stochastic variations in the injury panorama, available resources, geographical location, and other variables. It consists of two main programs: an editor where scenarios can be constructed and a simulation system to evaluate the outcome. Initial V&V testing showed that the software is reliable and internally consistent. The comparison to the analog exercise showed a general high agreement in terms of patient outcome. The analog exercise featured a train derailment with 397 injured, of which 45 patients suffered preventable death. In comparison, the computer simulation ran 100 iterations of the same scenario and indicated that a median of 41 patients (IQR 31 to 44) would suffer a preventable death.Discussion:Stochastic simulation methods can be a powerful complement to traditional capability assessments methods. The developed simulation software can be used for both assessing emergency preparedness with some validity and as a complement to analog capability assessment exercises, both as input and to validate results. Future work includes comparing the simulation to real disaster outcomes.

  • A new compilation of experimental nuclear data for total reaction cross sections
  • 2010
  • In: 38th COSPAR Scientific Assembly.
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The nucleon-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus total reaction cross sections are of importance in many different fields, both for a better theoretical understanding as well as for a number of applications, including space radiation dosimetry. We have performed a comprehensive literature study in order to find all available experimental data on total reaction cross sections, σR, and interaction cross sections, σI, for neutrons, protons, and all stable and exotic heavy ions. Excluded from the data base are measurements where the cross sections have been derived through model-dependent calculations from other kinds of measurements. The objective of the study is to identify where more measurements are needed in view of different applications, and to make the data easily available for model developers and experimentalists. We will present some examples from the study, which is in the stage of quality control of all the gathered data.
