  • The design and performance of the XL-Calibur anticoincidence shield
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 1872-9576. ; 1048
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The XL-Calibur balloon-borne hard X-ray polarimetry mission comprises a Compton-scattering polarimeter placed at the focal point of an X-ray mirror. The polarimeter is housed within a BGO anticoincidence shield, which is needed to mitigate the considerable background radiation present at the observation altitude of -40 km. This paper details the design, construction and testing of the anticoincidence shield, as well as the performance measured during the week-long maiden flight from Esrange Space Centre to the Canadian Northwest Territories in July 2022. The in-flight performance of the shield followed design expectations, with a veto threshold <100 keV and a measured background rate of -0.5 Hz (20-40 keV). This is compatible with the scientific goals of the mission, where %-level minimum detectable polarisation is sought for a Hz-level source rate.

  • Tenascins are associated with lipid rafts isolated from mouse brain
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications. - 1090-2104. ; 294:3, s. 742-747
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lipid rafts are microdomains of the plasma membrane which are enriched in glycosphingolipids and specific proteins. The reported interactions of several raft-associated proteins (such as, e.g., F3) with tenascin C and tenascin R prompted us to consider that these oligomeric multidomain glycoproteins of the extracellular matrix (ECM) could associate with rafts. Here, we show punctate immunocytochemical distributions of tenascin C (TN-C) and tenascin R (TN-R) at the membrane surface of neural cells resembling the pattern reported for raft-associated proteins. Moreover, cholesterol depletion with methyl-beta-cyclodextrin reduced the punctate surface staining of TN-C. Consistently, TN-C was associated with lipid rafts of neonatal mouse brain according to sucrose density gradient centrifugation experiments. Furthermore, TN-R was also found in rafts prepared from myelin of adult mice. Thus, brain-derived tenascins are able to associate with lipid rafts. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science (USA). • Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression : A Systematic Review and Individual Patient Data Network Meta-analysis
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: JAMA psychiatry. - : American Medical Association. - 2168-6238 .- 2168-622X. ; 78:4, s. 361-371
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • IMPORTANCE: Personalized treatment choices would increase the effectiveness of internet-based cognitive behavioral therapy (iCBT) for depression to the extent that patients differ in interventions that better suit them.OBJECTIVE: To provide personalized estimates of short-term and long-term relative efficacy of guided and unguided iCBT for depression using patient-level information.DATA SOURCES: We searched PubMed, Embase, PsycInfo, and Cochrane Library to identify randomized clinical trials (RCTs) published up to January 1, 2019.STUDY SELECTION: Eligible RCTs were those comparing guided or unguided iCBT against each other or against any control intervention in individuals with depression. Available individual patient data (IPD) was collected from all eligible studies. Depression symptom severity was assessed after treatment, 6 months, and 12 months after randomization.DATA EXTRACTION AND SYNTHESIS: We conducted a systematic review and IPD network meta-analysis and estimated relative treatment effect sizes across different patient characteristics through IPD network meta-regression.MAIN OUTCOMES AND MEASURES: Patient Health Questionnaire-9 (PHQ-9) scores.RESULTS: Of 42 eligible RCTs, 39 studies comprising 9751 participants with depression contributed IPD to the IPD network meta-analysis, of which 8107 IPD were synthesized. Overall, both guided and unguided iCBT were associated with more effectiveness as measured by PHQ-9 scores than control treatments over the short term and the long term. Guided iCBT was associated with more effectiveness than unguided iCBT (mean difference [MD] in posttreatment PHQ-9 scores, -0.8; 95% CI, -1.4 to -0.2), but we found no evidence of a difference at 6 or 12 months following randomization. Baseline depression was found to be the most important modifier of the relative association for efficacy of guided vs unguided iCBT. Differences between unguided and guided iCBT in people with baseline symptoms of subthreshold depression (PHQ-9 scores 5-9) were small, while guided iCBT was associated with overall better outcomes in patients with baseline PHQ-9 greater than 9.CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE: In this network meta-analysis with IPD, guided iCBT was associated with more effectiveness than unguided iCBT for individuals with depression, benefits were more substantial in individuals with moderate to severe depression. Unguided iCBT was associated with similar effectiveness among individuals with symptoms of mild/subthreshold depression. Personalized treatment selection is entirely possible and necessary to ensure the best allocation of treatment resources for depression.

  • Integrable perturbations of the harmonic oscillator and Poisson pencils
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Inverse Problems. - : IOP Publishing. - 0266-5611 .- 1361-6420. ; 17:2, s. 191-209
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Integrable perturbations of the two-dimensional harmonic oscillator are studied with the use of the recently developed theory of quasi-Lagrangian equations (equations of the form q¨ = A-1(q)?k(q) where A(q) is a Killing matrix) and with the use of Poisson pencils. A quite general class of integrable perturbations depending on an arbitrary solution of a certain second-order linear PDE is found in the case of harmonic oscillator with equal frequencies. For the case of nonequal frequencies all quadratic perturbations admitting two integrals of motion which are quadratic in velocities are found. A non-potential generalization of the Korteveg-de Vries integrable case of the Hénon-Heiles system is obtained. In the case when the perturbation is of a driven type (i.e. when one of the equations is autonomous) a method of solution of these systems by separation of variables and quadratures is presented.

  • Environmental risk of particulate and soluble platinum group elements released from gasoline and diesel engine catalytic converters
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: The Science of the Total Environment. ; 296, s. 199-208
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A comparison of platinum-group element (PGE) emission between gasoline and diesel engine catalytic converters is reported within this work. Whole raw exhaust fumes from four catalysts of three different types were examined during their useful lifetime, from fresh to 80 000 km. Two were gasoline engine catalysts (PtPdRh and PdRh), while the other two were diesel engine catalysts (Pt). Samples were collected following the 91441 EUDC driving cycle for light-duty vehicle testing, and the sample collection device used allowed differentiation between the particulate and soluble fractions, the latter being the most relevant from an environmental point of view. Analyses were performed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) (quadrupole and high resolution), and special attention was paid to the control of spectral interference, especially in the case of Pd and Rh. The results obtained show that, for fresh catalysts, the release of particulate PGE through car exhaust fumes does not follow any particular trend, with a wide range (onetwo orders of magnitude) for the content of noble metals emitted. The samples collected from 30 00080 000 km present a more homogeneous PGE release for all catalysts studied. A decrease of approximately one order of magnitude is observed with respect to the release from fresh catalysts, except in the case of the diesel engine catalyst, for which PGE emission continued to be higher than in the case of gasoline engines. The fraction of soluble PGE was found to represent less than 10% of the total amount released from fresh catalysts. For aged catalysts, the figures are significantly higher, especially for Pd and Rh. Particulate PGE can be considered as virtually biologically inert, while soluble PGE forms can represent an environmental risk due to their bioavailability, which leads them to accumulate in the environment.

  • Bral1, a brain-specific link protein, colocalizing with the versican V2 isoform at the nodes of Ranvier in developing and adult, mouse central nervous systems
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Molecular and Cellular Neuroscience. - : Elsevier BV. - 1044-7431. ; 19:1, s. 43-57
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Bral1, a brain-specific hyaluronan-binding protein, has been cloned recently. To gain insight into the role of Bral1, we generated a specific antibody against this protein. We have examined the detailed localization pattern of Bral1 protein and compared it with that of other members of the lectican proteoglycan family, such as brevican and versican, with which Bral1 is predicted to interact. The immunoreactivity of Bral1 antibody was predominantly observed in myelinated fiber tracts in the adult brain and could be detected at P20 in the white matter of the developing cerebellum, suggesting that expression starts when axonal myelination takes place. Furthermore, immunostaining demonstrated that Bral1 colocalized with the versican V2 isoform at the nodes of Ranvier. The present data suggest that Bral1 may play a pivotal role in the formation of the hyaluronan-associated matrix in the CNS that facilitates neuronal conduction by forming an ion diffusion barrier at the nodes.
