  • An all phosphorene lattice nanometric spin valve
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Nature. - 2045-2322. ; 14:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Phosphorene is a unique semiconducting two-dimensional platform for enabling spintronic devices integrated with phosphorene nanoelectronics. Here, we have designed an all phosphorene lattice lateral spin valve device, conceived via patterned magnetic substituted atoms of 3d-block elements at both ends of a phosphorene nanoribbon acting as ferromagnetic electrodes in the spin valve. Through First-principles based calculations, we have extensively studied the spin-dependent transport characteristics of the new spin valve structures. Systematic exploration of the magnetoresistance (MR) of the spin valve for various substitutional atoms and bias voltage resulted in a phase diagram offering a colossal MR for V and Cr-substitutional atoms. Such MR can be directly attributed to their specific electronic structure, which can be further tuned by a gate voltage, for electric field controlled spin valves. The spin-dependent transport characteristics here reveal new features such as negative conductance oscillation and switching of the sign of MR due to change in the majority spin carrier type. Our study creates possibilities for the design of nanometric spin valves, which could enable integration of memory and logic elements for all phosphorene 2D processors.

  • High efficiency spin filtering in magnetic phosphorene
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Physical Chemistry, Chemical Physics - PCCP. - : ROYAL SOC CHEMISTRY. - 1463-9076 .- 1463-9084. ; 22:10, s. 5893-5901
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Phosphorene has a unique set of characteristics such as a semiconducting nature, good carrier mobility and low-spin orbit coupling aspects which makes it a highly prospective two dimensional material for cross-hybrid architectures in nanoelectronics, spintronics, and optoelectronics. In the spintronic context, the creation of a stable magnetic order in phosphorene can be immensely beneficial for designing phosphorene spin circuits. In this work, we present high efficiency spin filtering behaviour in magnetically rendered phosphorene. First, we calculate the effect of doping various 3d block elements in phosphorene to introduce a stable magnetic order. Next, by varying doping concentrations in distinct doping configurations, an extensive phase diagram has been obtained depicting the presence of various electronic and magnetic states. This allows us to achieve a high magnetisation in the presence of various transition metal atoms, with a spin polarisation of similar to 100% in half-metallic regimes. The transport behaviour reveals a map of the spin injection efficiency showing enhancement with doping concentration and reaching a perfect spin filtering capacity of similar to 100% in the presence of Ti, Cr, Mn, Co, and Fe atoms. The present results offer new insights into engineered designs of multi-functional phosphorene spintronic circuits.

  • B-fields in Star-forming Region Observations (BISTRO): Magnetic Fields in the Filamentary Structures of Serpens Main
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal. - : American Astronomical Society. - 1538-4357 .- 0004-637X. ; 926:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present 850 mu m polarimetric observations toward the Serpens Main molecular cloud obtained using the POL-2 polarimeter on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope as part of the B-fields In STar-forming Region Observations survey. These observations probe the magnetic field morphology of the Serpens Main molecular cloud on about 6000 au scales, which consists of cores and six filaments with different physical properties such as density and star formation activity. Using the histogram of relative orientation (HRO) technique, we find that magnetic fields are parallel to filaments in less-dense filamentary structures where NH2 < 0.93 x 10(22) cm(-2) (magnetic fields perpendicular to density gradients), while they are perpendicular to filaments (magnetic fields parallel to density gradients) in dense filamentary structures with star formation activity. Moreover, applying the HRO technique to denser core regions, we find that magnetic field orientations change to become perpendicular to density gradients again at NH2 approximate to 4.6 x 10(22) NH2 approximate to 16 x 10(22) cm(-2), magnetic fields change back to being parallel to density gradients once again, which can be understood to be due to magnetic fields being dragged in by infalling material. In addition, we estimate the magnetic field strengths of the filaments (B-POS = 60-300 mu G)) using the Davis-Chandrasekhar-Fermi method and discuss whether the filaments are gravitationally unstable based on magnetic field and turbulence energy densities.

  • Neonatal jaundice, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and familial effects : A Swedish register study with sibling analysis
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Acta Paediatrica. - : Wiley-Blackwell Publishing Inc.. - 0803-5253 .- 1651-2227. ; 110:2, s. 473-479
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIM: Neonatal jaundice is associated with higher risk of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), but it is unclear if the association is influenced by genetic and other familial factors. In this large population-based study, we investigated the association between neonatal jaundice and ADHD while adjusting for familial factors.METHODS: We linked several Swedish registers to identify all singleton births without congenital malformations between 1992 and 2000 (n = 814 420, including 384 290 full siblings) and followed them up until 2009. We calculated hazard ratios (HRs) for the association between neonatal jaundice and ADHD, adjusting for pregnancy, delivery and neonatal characteristics including prematurity, and parental age and education. We repeated the analyses among siblings to adjust for shared familial factors.RESULTS: At a population level, children treated for neonatal jaundice had an increased risk of ADHD (adjusted HR (aHR): 1.13, 95% CI: 1.05-1.22). In the sibling comparisons, there was no clear association between neonatal jaundice and ADHD (aHR: 1.03, 95% CI: 0.82-1.29).CONCLUSION: We found no evidence of an independent association between neonatal jaundice and ADHD within siblings in this large population-based study, suggesting that the association is probably influenced by shared familial factors, such as parental genetic and/or lifestyle effects.

  • Threshold of hierarchical percolating systems
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Physical Review E. Statistical, Nonlinear, and Soft Matter Physics. - : American Physical Society. - 1539-3755 .- 1550-2376. ; 85:2, s. 021109-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Many modern nanostructured materials and doped polymers are morphologically too complex to be interpreted by classical percolation theory. Here, we develop the concept of a hierarchical percolating (percolation-within-percolation) system to describe such complex materials and illustrate how to generalize the conventional percolation to double-level percolation. Based on Monte Carlo simulations, we find that the double-level percolation threshold is close to, but definitely larger than, the product of the local percolation thresholds for the two enclosed single-level systems. The deviation may offer alternative insights into physics concerning infinite clusters and open up new research directions for percolation theory.
