  • Biatrial Volumetric Assessment by Non-ECG-Gated CT Pulmonary Angiography Correlated with Transthoracic Echocardiography in Patients with Normal Diastology
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Tomography (Ann Arbor, Mich.). - : MDPI AG. - 2379-139X. ; 8:6, s. 2761-2771
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Atrial size is a predictor of cardiovascular mortality. Non-ECG-gated computed tomography pulmonary angiography (CTPA) is a common test for cardiopulmonary evaluation but normative values for biatrial volumes are lacking. We derived normal CT biatrial volumes using manual and semiautomated segmentation with contemporaneous transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) to confirm normal diastology. Thirty-five consecutive cases in sinus rhythm with no history of cardio-vascular, renal, or pulmonary disease and normal diastolic function were selected. Planimetric CTPA measurements were compared to TTE volumes measured using area length method. TTE and CTPA derived normal LAVi and RAVi were 27 + 5 and 20 + 6 mL/m2, and 30 + 8 and 29 + 9 mL/m2, respectively. Bland–Altman analysis revealed an underestimation of biatrial volumes by TTE. TTE-CT mean biases for LAV and RAV were −5.7 + 12.0 mL and −16.2 + 14.8 mL, respectively. The CT intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC 95% CI) for LA and RA volumes were 0.99 (0.96–1.00) and 0.96 (0.76–0.99), respectively. There was excellent correlation (p < 0.001) between the semiautomated and manual measurements for LA (r 0.99, 95% CI 0.98–0.99) and RA (r 0.99, 95% CI 0.99–1.00). Atrial volumetric assessment on CTPA is easy and reproducible and can provide additional metric in cardiopulmonary assessment.

  • Inelastic Neutron Scattering and Density Functional Theory- Molecular Dynamics Study of Si Dynamics in Ti3SiC2
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of the American Ceramic Society. - : Wiley. - 1551-2916 .- 0002-7820. ; 97:3, s. 916-922
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Observed differences between measured and calculated elastic constants for Ti3SiC2 are investigated using Density Functional Theory and Inelastic Neutron Scattering. The agreement between the calculated lattice dynamics and the dynamics measured by inelastic neutron scattering is considered good except at energies below similar to 20meV where discrepancies suggest anharmonic potentials. This suggestion is confirmed by Density Functional TheoryMolecular Dynamics simulation which shows multiple site occupancy of the Si atoms within the basal plane at finite temperature and produces a calculated inelastic spectrum in better agreement with the measured spectrum in the low-energy region. The highly anharmonic potential energy surface of the Si atoms offers an explanation for the failure of elastic constants, calculated based on the harmonic approximation, to agree with initial experimental measurements.

  • Small Region, Big Impact : Highly Anisotropic Lyman-continuum Escape from a Compact Starburst Region with Extreme Physical Properties
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Astrophysical Journal Letters. - 2041-8205 .- 2041-8213. ; 955:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Extreme, young stellar populations are considered to be the primary contributor to cosmic reionization. How the Lyman continuum (LyC) escapes these galaxies remains highly elusive, and it is challenging to observe this process in actual LyC emitters without resolving the relevant physical scales. We investigate the Sunburst Arc, a strongly lensed LyC emitter at z = 2.37 that reveals an exceptionally small-scale (tens of parsecs) region of high LyC escape. The small (<100 pc) LyC-leaking region has extreme properties: a very blue UV slope (β = −2.9 ± 0.1), a high ionization state ([O iii] λ5007/[O ii] λ3727 = 11 ± 3 and [O iii] λ5007/Hβ = 6.8 ± 0.4), strong oxygen emission (EW([O iii]) = 1095 ± 40 Å), and a high Lyα escape fraction (0.3 ± 0.03), none of which are found in nonleaking regions of the galaxy. The leaking region's UV slope is consistent with approximately "pure" stellar light that is minimally contaminated by the surrounding nebular continuum emission or extinguished by dust. These results suggest a highly anisotropic LyC escape process such that LyC is produced and escapes from a small, extreme starburst region where the stellar feedback from an ionizing star cluster creates one or more "pencil-beam" channels in the surrounding gas through which LyC can directly escape. Such anisotropic escape processes imply that random sight-line effects drive the significant scatters between measurements of galaxy properties and LyC escape fraction, and that strong lensing is a critical tool for resolving the processes that regulate the ionizing budget of galaxies for reionization.

  • Comprehensive Evaluation and Study of Pattern Dependency Behavior in Selective Epitaxial Growth of B-Doped SiGe Layers
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: IEEE transactions on nanotechnology. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 1536-125X .- 1941-0085. ; 8:3, s. 291-297
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The influence of chip layout and architecture on the pattern dependency of selective epitaxy of B-doped SiGe layers has been studied. The variations of Ge-, B-content, and growth rate have been investigated locally within a wafer and globally from wafer to wafer. The results are described by the gas depletion theory. Methods to control the variation of layer profile are suggested.

  • A condition on the average Richardson number for weak non-linearity of internal gravity waves
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Tellus. Series A, Dynamic meteorology and oceanography. - : Stockholm University Press. - 0280-6495 .- 1600-0870. ; 59:5, s. 781-784
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A condition on the average Richardson number, Ri, for weak non-linearity of an internal gravity wavefield is derived using a quasi-normal assumption. For weak non-linearity to be satisfied it is required that Ri(-1) << 0.5. This condition is very rarely satisfied in the ocean at vertical scales up to the order of 100 m, for which it is often found that Ri(-1) similar to 1. The analysis suggests that non-linear effects are of no less importance than linear effects in the dynamics of the interior of the ocean at these scales.

  • Scar progression in patients with nonischemic cardiomyopathy and ventricular arrhythmias
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Heart Rhythm. - : Elsevier. - 1547-5271 .- 1556-3871. ; 11:5, s. 755-762
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • BACKGROUND Disease progression in patients with nonischemic cardiomyopathy (NICM) is poorly understood. OBJECTIVE To assess left ventricular(LV) scar progression and dilatation by using endocardial electroanatomic mapping. METHODS We studied 13 patients with NICM and recurrent ventricular tachycardia. Two detailed sinus rhythm endocardial voltage maps(265 +/- 122 points/map) were obtained after a mean of 32 months(range 9-77 months). The scar area, defined by low bipolar (BI; less than 1.5 mV) and unipolar(UNI; less than 8.3 mV) endocardial voltage, and the LV volume were measured and compared. A scar difference of greater than 6% of the LV surface and an increase in LV volume of greater than= 20 mL were considered beyond measurement error. RESULTS Six (46%) patients had an increase in scar area beyond boundaries of prior ablation. Five patients had an increase in UNI and 1 patient had an increase in both BI and UNI areas. The increase in BI area represented 16% and the increase in UNI area represented 6.5%-46.2% of the LV surface. A significant decrease in LV ejection fraction was found only in patients with scar progression (from 39% +/- 8%:p = .0003) (LV volume increase ranging between 9% and 23%) was noted in 3 patients, all of whom had scar progression. CONCLUSIONS Progressive scarring with an increase in the area of UNI and less commonly BI electrogram abnormality is seen in 46% of the patients with NICM and ventricular tachycardia and is associated with LV dilatation and decrease in LV ejection fraction. The prominent UNI abnormality suggests predominantly midmyo-cardial or epicardial scarring.

  • BETR global - A geographically-explicit global-scale multimedia contaminant fate model
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Environmental Pollution. - : Elsevier BV. - 0269-7491 .- 1873-6424. ; 159:5, s. 1442-1445
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We present two new software implementations of the BETR Global multimedia contaminant fate model. The model uses steady-state or non-steady-state mass-balance calculations to describe the fate and transport of persistent organic pollutants using a desktop computer. The global environment is described using a database of long-term average monthly conditions on a 15 degrees x 15 degrees grid. We demonstrate BETR Global by modeling the global sources, transport, and removal of decamethylcyclopentasiloxane (D5).
