  • Measurement of single electrons and implications for charm production in Au+Au collisions at root(NN)-N-S=130 GeV
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 88:19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transverse momentum spectra of electrons from Au+Au collisions at roots(NN) = 130 GeV have been measured at midrapidity by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. The spectra show an excess above the background from photon conversions and light hadron decays. The electron signal is consistent with that expected from semileptonic decays of charm. The yield of the electron signal dN(e)/dy for p(T) > 0.8 GeV/c is 0.025 +/- 0.004(stat) +/- 0.010( syst) in central collisions, and the corresponding charm cross section is 380 +/- 60(stat) +/- 200(syst ) mub per binary nucleon-nucleon collision.

  • Net charge fluctuations in Au+Au interactions root s(NN)=130 GeV
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 89
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Data from Au+ Au interactions at s(NN)=130 GeV, obtained with the PHENIX detector at the Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collider, are used to investigate local net charge fluctuations among particles produced near midrapidity. According to recent suggestions, such fluctuations may carry information from the quark-gluon plasma. This analysis shows that the fluctuations are dominated by a stochastic distribution of particles, but are also sensitive to other effects, like global charge conservation and resonance decays.

  • Suppression of hadrons with large transverse momentum in central Au+Au collisions at root s(NN)=130 GeV
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 1079-7114. ; 88:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transverse momentum spectra for charged hadrons and for neutral pions in the range 1 Gev/c < P-T < 5 GeV/c have been measured by the PHENIX experiment at RHIC in Au + Au collisions at rootS(NN) = 130 GeV. At high p(T) the spectra from peripheral nuclear collisions are consistent with scaling the spectra from p + p collisions by the average number of binary nucleon-nucleon collisions. The spectra from central collisions are significantly suppressed when compared to the binary-scaled p + p expectation, and also when compared to similarly binary-scaled peripheral collisions, indicating a novel nuclear-medium effect in central nuclear collisions at RHIC energies.

  • PHENIX central arm tracking detectors
  • 2003
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments & Methods in Physics Research. Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors, and Associated Equipment. - 0167-5087. ; 499:2-3, s. 489-507
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The PHENIX tracking system consists of Drift Chambers (DC), Pad Chambers (PC) and the Time Expansion Chamber (TEC). PC1/DC and PC2/TEC/PC3 form the inner and outer tracking units, respectively. These units link the track segments that transverse the RICH and extend to the EMCal. The DC measures charged particle trajectories in the r-phi direction to determine P-T of the particles and the invariant mass of particle pairs. The PCs perform 3D spatial point measurements for pattern recognition and longitudinal momentum reconstruction and provide spatial resolution of a few mm in both r-phi and z. The TEC tracks particles passing through the region between the RICH and the EMCal. The design and operational parameters of the detectors are presented and running experience during the first year of data taking with PHENIX is discussed. The observed spatial and momentum resolution is given which imposes a limitation on the identification and characterization of charged particles in various momentum ranges. • TUMESA - MEMS tuneable metamaterials for smart wireless applications
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: European Microwave Week 2012: "Space for Microwaves", EuMW 2012, Conference Proceedings - 7th European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference, EuMIC 2012. - : IEEE. - 9782874870286 ; , s. 95-98
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper describes the main results of the EU FP7 project TUMESA - MEMS tuneable metamaterials for smart wireless applications. In this project, we studied several reconfigurable antenna approaches that combine the new technology of MEMS with the new concept of artificial electromagnetic materials and surfaces (metamaterials and metasurfaces) for realisation of millimetre wave phase shifters and beam-steering devices. MEMS technology allows to miniaturise electronic components, reduce their cost in batch production, and effectively compete with semiconductor and ferroelectric based technologies in terms of losses at millimetre wavelengths. Novel tuneable materials and components proposed in this project perform as smart beam steering devices. Fabricated with MEMS technology in batch and on a single chip, proposed tuneable devices allow substituting of larger and more complex sub-system of, e.g., a radar sensor. This substitution provides a dramatic cost reduction on a system level.

  • Iris-based 2-bit waveguide phase shifters and transmit-array for automotive radar applications
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 6th European Conference on Antennas and Propagation, EuCAP 2012. - : IEEE. - 9781457709180 ; , s. 3711-3715
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Three-pole iris-based bandpass filters are proposed as waveguide phase shifters for automotive applications at 77 GHz. Compared to standard configurations with symmetrical irises, asymmetrical designs have been preferred here in order to minimize technological constraints in the perspective of designing beam steering transmit-array antennas. Here the irises are printed on thin Silicon substrates integrated into a WR-12 metallic waveguide. A 210-element transmit-array antenna is also designed at 77GHz using, as building blocks, four different kinds of phase shifters providing a nearly 2-bit phase quantization in the radiation aperture. The phase shifter design are validated in X-band, and a very good agreement between simulations and measurements has been obtained both in amplitude and phase.

  • On the optimal relay design for multi-antenna cognitive two-way AF relay networks
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Conference Record. - 9781479982974 ; , s. 1579-1583
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cognitive relaying is an efficient method for tackling the problem of spectrum scarcity by serving new (secondary) users, while keeping the existing (primary) users satisfied with their service. Moreover, additional gains can be attained from employment of the two-way relaying with multiple-antenna relays within the secondary network. In this paper, we consider an underlay two-way cognitive network and propose an efficient algorithm for computing a (nearly) optimal relay precoder matrix subject to the interference constraint towards the primary network. The efficiency of the proposed solution is highlighted by means of numerical simulations.

  • GNSS and Massive MIMO : Spoofing, Jamming and Robust Receiver Design for Impulsive Noise
  • 2023
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • In this thesis, we focus on vulnerabilities and robustness of two wireless communication technologies: global navigation satellite system (GNSS), a technology that provides position-velocity-time information, and massive multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO), a core cellular 5G technology. In particular, we investigate spoofing and jamming attacks to GNSS and massive MIMO, respectively, and the robust massive MIMO receiver against impulsive noises. In this context, spoofing refers to the situation in which a receiver identifies falsified signals, that are transmitted by the spoofers, as legitimate or trustable signals.Jamming, on the other hand, refers to the transmission of radio signals that disrupt communications by decreasing the signal to interference plus noise ratio (SINR) on the receiver side. The reason why we investigate impulsive noises is that the standard wireless receivers assume that the noise has Gaussian distribution. However, the impulsive noises may appear in any communication link. The difference between impulsive noises and standard Gaussian noises is that it is more likely to observe outliers in impulsive noises. Therefore, we question whether the standard Gaussian receivers are robust against impulsive noises and design robust receivers against impulsive noises.More specifically, in paper A we analyze the effects of distributed jammers on massive MIMO and answer the following questions: Is massive MIMO more robust to distributed jammers compared with previous generation's cellular networks? Which jamming attack strategies are the best from the jammer's perspective, and can the jamming power be spread over space to achieve more harmful attacks? In paper B, we propose a detector for GNSS receivers that is able to detect multiple spoofers without having any prior information about the attack strategy or the number of spoofers in the environment. In paper C and D, we design robust receivers for massive MIMO against impulsive noise. In paper C, we model the noise having a Cauchy distribution and present a channel estimation technique, achievable rates and soft-decision metrics for coded signals. The main observation in paper C is that the proposed receiver works well in the presence of Cauchy and Gaussian noises, although the standard Gaussian receiver performs very bad when the noise has Cauchy distribution. In paper D, we compare two types of receivers, the Gaussian-mixture and the Cauchy-based, when the noise has symmetric alpha-stable (SαS) distributions. Based on the numerical results, the Gaussian-mixture receiver outperforms the Cauchy-based receiver.
