  • A Randomized Controlled Trial Evaluating the Effects of Diosmin in the Treatment of Radicular Pain
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: BioMed Research International. - : Hindawi Publishing Corporation. - 2314-6133 .- 2314-6141.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Diosmin has been widely used to treat patients with vascular pain for its potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. To evaluate the therapeutic effects of Diosmin in the treatment of radicular pain, we conducted an investigator-initiated, randomized, activecontrolled noninferiority trial between January 1, 2009, and December 1, 2010. Diosmin (50 mg/kg/day) was orally administered to treat the radicular pain in 150 patients for onemonth. Another 150 patientswith the same symptomwere given 20% 250 ml mannitol (1 g/kg/day) for 7 days and dexamethasone (10 mg/day) for 3 days intravenously guttae. Short-term relief and long-term relief were measured. Secondary outcomes include improvement in functional and psychological status, return to work, and reduction in antiinflammatory analgesic drugs intake. Patients treated with oral Diosmin achieved reduction in radicular pain. The total satisfaction rate of Diosmin group was 84.7% [95% confidence interval (CI): 77.9%, 90.0%], and the complete satisfaction rate was 50.7% (95% CI: 42.4%, 58.9%). No statistically significant difference was found between the Diosmin group and the active-control group regarding patient satisfaction. No adverse effects were found during the study period. Our study suggests that clinical application of Diosmin with a dose of 50 mg/kg/day might reduce the radicular pain. This trial is registered with ISRCTN97157037.

  • Anchoring Fe Species on the Highly Curved Surface of S and N Co-Doped Carbonaceous Nanosprings for Oxygen Electrocatalysis and a Flexible Zinc-Air Battery
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Angewandte Chemie International Edition. - 1433-7851 .- 1521-3773. ; 63:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) is of critical significance in the advancement of fuel cells and zinc-air batteries. The iron-nitrogen (Fe−Nx) sites exhibited exceptional reactivity towards ORR. However, the task of designing and controlling the local structure of Fe species for high ORR activity and stability remains a challenge. Herein, we have achieved successful immobilization of Fe species onto the highly curved surface of S, N co-doped carbonaceous nanosprings (denoted as FeNS/Fe3C@CNS). The induction of this twisted configuration within FeNS/Fe3C@CNS arose from the assembly of chiral templates. For electrocatalytic ORR tests, FeNS/Fe3C@CNS exhibits a half-wave potential (E1/2) of 0.91 V in alkaline medium and a E1/2 of 0.78 V in acidic medium. The Fe single atoms and Fe3C nanoparticles are coexistent and play as active centers within FeNS/Fe3C@CNS. The highly curved surface, coupled with S substitution in the coordination layer, served to reduce the energy barrier for ORR, thereby enhancing the intrinsic catalytic activity of the Fe single-atom sites. We also assembled a wearable flexible Zn-air battery using FeNS/Fe3C@CNS as electrocatalysts. This work provides new insights into the construction of highly curved surfaces within carbon materials, offering high electrocatalytic efficacy and remarkable performance for flexible energy conversion devices.

  • Archaeological Predictive Modeling Using Machine Learning and Statistical Methods for Japan and China
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: ISPRS International Journal of Geo-Information. - 2220-9964. ; 12:6, s. 238-238
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Archaeological predictive modeling (APM) is an essential method for quantitatively assessing the probability of archaeological sites present in a region. It is a necessary tool for archaeological research and cultural heritage management. In particular, the predictive modeling process could help us understand the relationship between past human civilizations and the natural environment; moreover, a better understanding of the mechanisms of the human-land relationship can provide new ideas for sustainable development. This study aims to investigate the impact of topographic and hydrological factors on archaeological sites in the Japanese archipelago and Shaanxi Province, China and proposes a hybrid integration approach for APM. This approach employed a conditional attention mechanism (AM) using deep learning and a frequency ratio (FR) model, in addition to a separate FR model and the widely-used machine learning MaxEnt method. The models' outcomes were cross-checked using the four-fold cross-validation method, and the models' performances were compared using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and Kvamme's Gain. The results showed that in both study areas, the AM_FR model exhibited the most satisfactory performances.

  • A novel dual mode capacitor biosensor for real-time, label-free DNA detection
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: 2006 INTERNATIONAL ELECTRON DEVICES MEETING, VOLS 1 AND 2. - NEW YORK : IEEE. - 9781424404384 ; , s. 447-450
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A novel biosensor working in both MOS capacitor and electric double-layer capacitor mode for real-time, label-free DNA detection is presented. The former mode measures density and polarity of charged biomolecules to be monitored, while the latter mode appears to reveal more of surface-molecule interactions and offers high sensitivity and easiness for diagnosis. A combined mode-utilization yields optimal complementary information of significance.

  • Health status and risk profiles for brain aging of rural‐dwelling older adults : Data from the interdisciplinary baseline assessments in MIND‐China
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Alzheimer’s & Dementia. - : John Wiley & Sons. - 2352-8737. ; 8:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Introduction: Multidomain intervention approaches have emerged as a potential strategy to reduce dementia risk. We sought to describe the baseline assessment approaches, health conditions, and risk profiles for brain aging of participants in the randomized controlled Multimodal INterventions to delay Dementia and disability in rural China (MIND-China).Methods: MIND-China engaged residents who were >= 60 years of age and living in rural communities in the western Shandong province. In March to September 2018, all participants underwent the core module assessments via face-to-face interviews, clinical examinations, neuropsychological testings, and laboratory tests. Specific modules of examination were performed for sub-samples, including brain magnetic resonance imaging scans, genetic and blood biochemical markers, actigraphy testing, cardiopulmonary coupling analysis for sleep quality and disturbances, audiometric testing, and optical coherence tomography examination. We performed descriptive analysis. Results: In total, 5765 participants (74.9% of all eligible residents) undertook the baseline assessments. The mean age was 70.9 years (standard deviation, 5.9), 57.2% were women, 40.6% were illiterate, and 88.3% were farmers. The overall prevalence of common chronic diseases was 67.2% for hypertension, 23.4% for dyslipidemia, 23.5% for heart disease, 14.4% for diabetes mellitus, and 5.4% for dementia. The prevalence rates of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, obesity, heart disease, depressive symptoms, and dementia were higher in women than in men (P < .05). Overall, 87.1% of the participants had at least two of the 15 chronic diseases (89.3% in women vs 84.2% in men, P < .001). Participants examined for the specific modules were younger, more likely to be women, and more educated than those not examined.Discussion: Comprehensive baseline assessments of participants in MIND-China provide extremely valuable data sources for interdisciplinary research into the complex relationships of aging, health, brain aging, and functional consequences among older adults living in the rural communities.Highlights:MIND-China is a multimodal intervention study among rural residents >= 60 years of age.At baseline, 5765 participants undertook the interdisciplinary assessments. The baseline assessments consisted of core module and specific modules.Specific modules included brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), blood biomarkers, ActiGraph, cardiopulmonary coupling (CPC), pure-tone audiometry (PTA), and optical coherence tomography (OCT).

  • Identification, Tissue Distribution, and Bioaccumulation Potential of Cyclic Perfluorinated Sulfonic Acids Isomers in an Airport Impacted Ecosystem
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Environmental Science and Technology. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 0013-936X .- 1520-5851. ; 50:20, s. 10923-10932
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The use of cyclic perfluoroalkyl acids as anticorrosive agents in hydraulic fluids remains a poorly characterized source of organofluorine compounds to the environment. Here, we investigated the presence of perfluoroethylenecyclohexanesulfonate (PFECHS) isomers in environmental samples for the first time using a combination of high resolution and tandem mass spectrometry. Five distinct peaks attributed to different isomers of PFECHS and perfluoropropylcyclopentanesulfonate (PFPCPeS) were identified in environmental samples. The sum of PFECHS and PFPCPeS isomers displayed logarithmically decreasing spatial trends in water (1.04-324 ng/L) and sediment samples (

  • Prediction of urban airflow fields around isolated high-rise buildings using data-driven non-linear correction models
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Building and Environment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0360-1323 .- 1873-684X. ; 246
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • When it comes to predicting urban airflow, steady Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (SRANS) models that rely on Reynolds stress often face a challenge called the closure problem. This problem involves unresolved structural flaws and uncertainties in the closure coefficients used in the models. Previous attempts to recalibrate coefficients for specific urban flows without breaking the linear constitutive relation have resulted in simulation results constrained by the baseline turbulence model. Therefore, this study aims to enhance the performance of SRANS models by addressing these structural flaws. To achieve this, a novel data-driven framework is proposed. It leverages the deterministic symbolic regression algorithm to discover explicit algebraic expressions for a non-linear Reynolds stress correction model. The robustness of the correction model is ensured by maintaining the linear eddy viscosity model for iterative calculations while keeping the non-linear component frozen. The proposed framework is evaluated using three isolated building cases with varying geometric configurations and inflow boundary conditions. Findings demonstrate that computational fluid dynamics (CFD) predictions incorporating the data-driven non-linear correction model consistently align closer to wind tunnel experimental results compared to both standard and non-linear versions of the k-ε turbulence model. This improvement is reflected in reduced reattachment lengths and more accurate mean velocity distributions in the wake of buildings. However, it should be noted that there is a possibility of overpredicting wind velocity in the windward area. This study introduces valuable insights and additional strategies to enhance the prediction accuracy of SRANS models in urban airflow simulations.
