  • Det litterära med reportaget : Om litteraritet som journalistisk strategi och etik
  • 2013
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This doctoral thesis explores the literarity of reportage, with a focus on the 20th century and modern reportage. The aim is to describe the literary strategies used in modern text-based reportage and how these strategies relate to journalistic standards of credibility and ethics. A primary focus is the question of what the reportage is looking for in the literary, what happens to this literarity when it is used for journalistic purposes, and, in turn, how the literary establishes ethics in the text.       By suggesting that a piece of reportage is a journalistic text that simultaneously tells the story about the reporter’s encounter with the event, this dissertation sheds light on possible approaches to the concept of literarity: Subjectivity, narrativity, meta-narrative aspects, the poetic function of language and the performative movements in the text. The ethics of reportage is also to be derived from the encounter, and this thesis implements a concept of ethics in conversations with Emmanuel Levinas and dialogical philosophy. It provides an opportunity to separate ethics from moral, ideological and political dimensions of responsibility in the encounter. This aspect of ethics, where literarity and counter-movement operate beyond the direct intention, is what is needed to understand the reportage genre.     The dissertation also includes six longer reportage analyses embodying its results: Djuna Barnes’s, Vagaries Malicieux, Ryszard Kapuściński’s Another Day of Life, Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood, Hanna Krall’s A Tale for Hollywood, Sven Lindqvist’s Kina nu: Vad skulle Mao ha sagt? and Joan Didion’s, Slouching towards Bethlehem.

  • Early energy and protein intakes and associations with growth, BPD and ROP in extremely preterm infants
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Clinical Nutrition. - : Elsevier. - 0261-5614 .- 1532-1983. ; 38:3, s. 1289-1295
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background & aim: Extremely preterm infants face substantial neonatal morbidity. Nutrition is important to promote optimal growth and organ development in order to reduce late neonatal complications. The aim of this study was to examine the associations of early nutritional intakes on growth and risks of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) and retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in a high-risk population. Methods: This population-based cohort study includes infants born before 27 0/7 weeks of gestational age without severe malformations and surviving ≥10 days. Intake of energy and protein on postnatal days 4–6 and association with weight standard deviation score (WSDS) from birth to day 7, as well as intakes of energy and protein on postnatal days 4–6 and 7 to 27, respectively, and association with composite outcome of death and BPD and separate outcomes of BPD and ROP were examined, and adjusted for potential confounders. Results: The cohort comprised 296 infants with a median gestational age of 25 3/7 weeks. Expressed as daily intakes, every additional 10 kcal/kg/d of energy during days 4–6 was associated with 0.08 higher WSDS on day 7 (95% CI 0.06–0.11; p < 0.001). Between days 7 and 27, every 10 kcal/kg/d increase in energy intake was associated with a reduced risk of BPD of 9% (95% CI 1–16; p = 0.029) and any grade of ROP with a reduced risk of 6% (95% CI 2–9; p = 0.005) in multivariable models. This association was statistically significant in infants with ≤10 days of mechanical ventilation. In infants with >10 days of mechanical ventilation, a combined higher intake of energy and protein was associated with a reduced risk of BPD.Conclusion: Early provision of energy and protein may reduce postnatal weight loss and risk of morbidity in extremely preterm infants.

  • DASH Swedish National Doctoral School in Digital Humanities : From Local Expertise to National Research Infrastructure
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Huminfra Conference (HiC 2024).
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper presents the Swedish National Doctoral School in Digital Humanities: Data, Culture, and Society – Critical Perspectives (DASH) that is run in 2023–2027 by Uppsala University, Umeå University, Linnaeus University, and Gothenburg University. Though Swedish universities have established PhD courses, MA programmes and training in digital humanities previously, DASH is the first encompassing educational programme in digital humanities at the doctoral level. The present paper discusses the rationale behind the DASH doctoral school, its role in the landscape of Swedish humanities infrastructures, and provides insights from the first PhD courses and seminars. The focus of DASH is to equip PhD candidates in humanities and social sciences with knowledge and skills necessary to pursue high quality, innovative and critical research in digital humanities. DASH aims to provide knowledge in relation to digital research, its methods, tools, and critical perspectives, and to build and strengthen the networks among early career scholars. DASH facilitates access and use of the resources in the national infrastructures in the humanities, but also emerges as an element in the infrastructure by providing new resources and competences.

  • Between nature and society: the interpretation of an early nineteenth-century Swedish farmer’s diary.
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Agricultural History Review. - 0002-1490. ; 63, s. 265-285
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Pre-industrial agriculture was largely based on local natural resources, which needed to be handled together with a variety of societal factors. In this study we use an unusually detailed Swedish farming priest's diary to show interactions between ecology and society at the micro-level, and how they influenced the decisions and actions made by the household. The diary is analysed by using the conceptual framework of social-ecological systems (SES). We focus on years in the 1810s, when extreme weather conditions made the weaknesses and potentials of the agrarian system particularly visible through their impact on the production of hay and pasture.
