  • Hierarchical micro-reactor as electrodes for water splitting by metal rod tipped carbon nanocapsule self-assembly in carbonized wood
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Applied Catalysis B. - : Elsevier. - 0926-3373 .- 1873-3883. ; 264
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Materials design of efficient electrochemical micro-reactors is challenging, although hierarchically structured, self-standing electrodes with catalyst arrays offer promise. Herein, catalyst function in compact micro-reactor electrodes is designed by nanostructural tailoring of carbonized wood for efficient water splitting. Specifically, NiFe rod tipped, N-doped graphitic carbon nanocapsule arrays are self-assembled in hierarchical wood, and the benefit of this unique presentation and its promotive effect on accessibility of the catalyst surfaces is apparent. This report also comprises the first wood based micro-reactor electrodes for electrocatalytic water oxidation demonstrating excellent performance. The overpotential for oxygen evolution reaction was as low as 180 mV for 10 mA cm−2 current density and TOFredox was high at a level of 5.8 s−1 (at 370 mV overpotential). This hierarchical electrode can also work as bifunctional catalyst (both as anodic and as cathodic electrode) for total water splitting with a cell potential of 1.49 V for 10 mA cm−2 in alkaline solution, suggestive of their potential also in other electrochemical applications.

  • Associations of obesity and circulating insulin and glucose with breast cancer risk : a Mendelian randomization analysis
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Epidemiology. - : OXFORD UNIV PRESS. - 0300-5771 .- 1464-3685. ; 48:3, s. 795-806
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: In addition to the established association between general obesity and breast cancer risk, central obesity and circulating fasting insulin and glucose have been linked to the development of this common malignancy. Findings from previous studies, however, have been inconsistent, and the nature of the associations is unclear. Methods: We conducted Mendelian randomization analyses to evaluate the association of breast cancer risk, using genetic instruments, with fasting insulin, fasting glucose, 2-h glucose, body mass index (BMI) and BMI-adjusted waist-hip-ratio (WHRadj BMI). We first confirmed the association of these instruments with type 2 diabetes risk in a large diabetes genome-wide association study consortium. We then investigated their associations with breast cancer risk using individual-level data obtained from 98 842 cases and 83 464 controls of European descent in the Breast Cancer Association Consortium. Results: All sets of instruments were associated with risk of type 2 diabetes. Associations with breast cancer risk were found for genetically predicted fasting insulin [odds ratio (OR) = 1.71 per standard deviation (SD) increase, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.26-2.31, p = 5.09 x 10(-4)], 2-h glucose (OR = 1.80 per SD increase, 95% CI = 1.3 0-2.49, p = 4.02 x 10(-4)), BMI (OR = 0.70 per 5-unit increase, 95% CI = 0.65-0.76, p = 5.05 x 10(-19)) and WHRadj BMI (OR = 0.85, 95% CI = 0.79-0.91, p = 9.22 x 10(-6)). Stratified analyses showed that genetically predicted fasting insulin was more closely related to risk of estrogen-receptor [ER]-positive cancer, whereas the associations with instruments of 2h glucose, BMI and WHRadj BMI were consistent regardless of age, menopausal status, estrogen receptor status and family history of breast cancer. Conclusions: We confirmed the previously reported inverse association of genetically predicted BMI with breast cancer risk, and showed a positive association of genetically predicted fasting insulin and 2-h glucose and an inverse association of WHRadj BMI with breast cancer risk. Our study suggests that genetically determined obesity and glucose/insulin-related traits have an important role in the aetiology of breast cancer.

  • The 4f-Hybridization Strength in CemMnIn3m+2n Heavy-Fermion Compounds Studied by Angle-Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Chinese Physics Letters. - : IOP Publishing. - 0256-307X .- 1741-3540. ; 38:10
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We systemically investigate the nature of Ce 4f electrons in structurally layered heavy-fermion compounds CemMnIn3m+2n (with M = Co, Rh, Jr, and Pt, m = 1, 2, n = 0-2), at low temperature using on-resonance angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy. Three heavy quasiparticle bands f(0), f(7/2)(1) and f(5/2)(1), are observed in all compounds, whereas their intensities and energy locations vary greatly with materials. The strong f(0) states imply that the localized electron behavior dominates the Ce 4f states. The Ce 4f electrons are partially hybridized with the conduction electrons, making them have the dual nature of localization and itinerancy. Our quantitative comparison reveals that the f(5/2)(1)-f (0) intensity ratio is more suitable to reflect the 4f-state hybridization strength.

  • Temporal trends of esophageal cancer during 1995-2004 in Nanao Island, an extremely high-risk area in China
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: European Journal of Epidemiology. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1573-7284 .- 0393-2990. ; 22:1, s. 43-48
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The purpose of our study was to investigate the temporal malignant tumor incidence rates among the 70,000 residents at the relatively isolated Nanao Island in South China Sea. The data on all malignant tumor cases from Nanao Cancer Registry during 1995-2004 were coded, computerized, and analyzed using the software SPSS10.0. The tumor incident cases, crude incident rate, age-standardized incidence rate, their sex distribution and temporal trend were assessed. A total of 1450 new cancer cases (990 males and 460 females) were identified. The annual average age-standardized incidence rate (ASR) of malignant tumors was 208.18/100,000. The age-standardized incidence rate of the ten leading cancers in both sexes combined per 100,000 population were 74.47 for esophageal cancer (EC), 34.81 for cardiac cancer (CC), 25.66 for liver cancer, 26.01 for lung cancer, 18.52 for stomach cancer, 4.45 for nasopharyngeal cancer, 3.91 for breast cancer, 2.53 for colon/rectum cancer, 2.45 for bladder cancer and 1.92 for pancreatic cancer. These ten types of cancers make up to 93% of all cancer cases, with EC and CC being the most prevalent and making up 52% of the total cases. The incidence rates of esophagus, liver, lung, breast, nasopharyngeal, and colon/rectum cancers showed increasing trends during the period from 1995 to 2004 in Nanao Island. Astounding the EC ASR were 72-150/100,000 among male and 26-64/100,000 among female in Nanao Island during 1995-2004. The EC incidence rate in Nanao population is among the highest across the world, which suggests that there are potential genetic and/or environmental factors affecting this particular population.

  • 13.4 % Efficiency from All-Small-Molecule Organic Solar Cells Based on a Crystalline Donor with Chlorine and Trialkylsilyl Substitutions
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: ChemSusChem. - : Wiley. - 1864-5631 .- 1864-564X. ; 14:17, s. 3535-3543
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • How to simultaneously achieve both high open-circuit voltage (Voc) and high short-circuit current density (Jsc) is a big challenge for realising high power conversion efficiency (PCE) in all-small-molecule organic solar cells (all-SM OSCs). Herein, a novel small molecule (SM)-donor, namely FYSM−SiCl, with trialkylsilyl and chlorine substitutions was designed and synthesized. Compared to the original SM-donor FYSM−H, FYSM−Si with trialkylsilyl substitution showed a decreased crystallinity and lower highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) level, while FYSM−SiCl had an improved crystallinity, more ordered packing arrangement, significantly lower HOMO level, and predominant “face-on” orientation. Matched with a SM-acceptor Y6, the FYSM−SiCl-based all-SM OSCs exhibited both high Voc of 0.85 V and high Jsc of 23.7 mA cm−2, which is rare for all-SM OSCs and could be attributed to the low HOMO level of FYSM−SiCl donor and the delicate balance between high crystallinity and suitable blend morphology. As a result, FYSM−SiCl achieved a high PCE of 13.4 % in all-SM OSCs, which was much higher than those of the FYSM−H- (10.9 %) and FYSM−Si-based devices (12.2 %). This work demonstrated a promising method for the design of efficient SM-donors by a side-chain engineering strategy via the introduction of trialkylsilyl and chlorine substitutions.

  • Critical Role of Functional Groups Containing N, S, and O on Graphene Surface for Stable and Fast Charging Li-S Batteries
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Small. - : Wiley. - 1613-6810 .- 1613-6829. ; 17:17
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lithium‐sulfur (Li‐S) batteries are considered one of the most promising energy storage technologies, possibly replacing the state‐of‐the‐art lithium‐ion (Li‐ion) batteries owing to their high energy density, low cost, and eco‐compatibility. However, the migration of high‐order lithium polysulfides (LiPs) to the lithium surface and the sluggish electrochemical kinetics pose challenges to their commercialization. The interactions between the cathode and LiPs can be enhanced by the doping of the carbon host with heteroatoms, however with relatively low doping content (<10%) in the bulk of the carbon, which can hardly interact with LiPs at the host surface. In this study, the grafting of versatile functional groups with designable properties (e.g., catalytic effects) directly on the surface of the carbon host is proposed to enhance interactions with LiPs. As model systems, benzene groups containing N/O and S/O atoms are vertically grafted and uniformly distributed on the surface of expanded reduced graphene oxide, fostering a stable interface between the cathode and LiPs. The combination of experiments and density functional theory calculations demonstrate improvements in chemical interactions between graphene and LiPs, with an enhancement in the electrochemical kinetics, power, and energy densities.

  • Study protocol for One Health data collections, analyses and intervention of the Sino-Swedish integrated multisectoral partnership for antibiotic resistance containment (IMPACT)
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: BMJ Open. - : BMJ Publishing Group Ltd. - 2044-6055. ; 8:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • INTRODUCTION: To effectively minimise the emergence and dissemination of antibiotic resistant bacteria, a holistic One Health approach is called for. The Sino-Swedish Integrated Multisectoral Partnership for Antibiotic Resistance Containment is a cross-sectoral and integrated project on antibiotic resistance, conducted in Shandong Province in China. This paper outlines the overall study protocol for the project. To our knowledge, this is the first research programme aiming to take a true holistic approach across multiple sectors simultaneously in China, and the first to incorporate both antibiotic use and infection prevention and control in addition to antibiotic resistance patterns. The project aims to address gaps in current knowledge and seeks to improve the situation through a system-wide intervention. By using a One Health approach we can address important research questions that individual discipline investigations are unable to. The results obtained should thus more closely reflect the world in which human health, animal health and the environment are inextricably and intimately interlinked.METHODS AND ANALYSIS: Both quantitative and qualitative studies are included for households from 12 villages, their surrounding environment and a tertiary care hospital in a nearby town. The studies include analyses of antibiotic consumption for humans and pigs; qualitative and quantitative data on perceptions, knowledge and attitudes; faecal carriage of extended spectrum β-lactamase and carbapenemase-producing Enterobacteriaceae from pigs and humans, and occurrence in household drinking water, surface water, waste water and clinical bacterial isolates from the hospital. Carriage of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in humans, household pigs and clinical bacterial isolates is also investigated. Furthermore, potential inter-relationships between these sources are analysed. A multifaceted One Health intervention is designed and implemented in 6 of the 12 villages. Repeated and continuous data collections take place over 2 years, where the repeated data collection is performed after 1 year of intervention. Comparisons are made between intervention and control villages, before and after the intervention.ETHICS: Ethics approval was obtained from the first Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, China, reference number 2015#185 and 2015#283.

  • Economic evaluation of ferric carboxymaltose versus conventional therapy for perioperative anaemia in general surgery : [普外科围术期贫血管理中羧基麦芽糖铁对比常规治疗的经济学分析]
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Chinese Journal of New Drugs. - : Chinese Journal of New Drugs Co. Ltd.. - 1003-3734. ; 32:17, s. 1795-1800
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objective: To evaluate the impact of budget on the total health care costs of using ferric carboxymaltose to correct iron deficiency anaemia compared with usual care in perioperative anaemia management in general surgery, and to provide a decision-making basis to promote the implementation of patient blood management (PBM) in China, particularly anaemia management focused on rapid and adequate iron supplementation in the perioperative period. Methods: Based on Chinese epidemiological data, the differences in the reduction of allogeneic blood transfusion rate and length of stay in the perioperative period between the PBM group and the conventional treatment group were compared, and an analysis model of impact on budget was constructed combined with domestic cost data. Clinical outcomes were from data of foreign randomized clinical trials, and cost data were from public prices in the domestic market, including iron drug (oral iron, ferric carboxymaltose), injection, EPO use, blood transfusion, and hospitalization. Results: Based on 3.758 million elective general surgery patients nationwide, the use of ferric carboxymaltose for anaemia management in the perioperative period as a complete substitute for routine care would have prevented 704,690 blood transfusions and saved a total of ¥139 million in treatment costs, with an average saving of ¥42 per patient. A sensitivity analysis showed total treatment cost savings of ¥1.086 billion, ¥2.033 billion, ¥2.981 billion and ¥3.928 billion assuming a 10%, 20%, 30% and 40% reduction in the price of ferric carboxymaltose, with average cost savings per patient being ¥289, ¥541, ¥793 and ¥1045, respectively. Conclusion: It is recommended that the patients with clinical perioperative iron deficiency anaemia undergo implementation of patient blood management and that ferric carboxymaltose be used for anaemia management.

  • 17.25% high efficiency ternary solar cells with increased open-circuit voltage using a high HOMO level small molecule guest donor in a PM6:Y6 blend
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Chemistry A. - : Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC). - 2050-7496 .- 2050-7488. ; 9:36, s. 20493-20501
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A small molecule donor TiC12 with an asymmetric thieno[3,2-c]isochromene unit is incorporated into the PM6:Y6 system as the third component for constructing ternary organic solar cells (OSCs). It was found that TiC12 played an outstanding role in improvement of open-circuit voltage (V-oc), short-circuit current (J(sc)) and fill factor (FF) for the OSCs. The effects of TiC12 on the absorption, exciton dissociation, charge extraction, bimolecular recombination and morphology of the active layer are analyzed in detail. The synergetic improvement of J(sc), V-oc and FF parameters is realized to generate an advanced power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 17.25% in the optimized PM6 : TiC12 : Y6 (0.9 : 0.1 : 1.2) ternary device. Furthermore, the V-oc is increased in proportion to the added amount of TiC12 in the ternary devices due to reduced disorder and nonradiative energy loss, although the guest donor TiC12 exhibited a higher HOMO level than PM6. This study provides an effective and innovative approach to elevate V-oc and thus PCE for ternary OSCs by introducing a guest small molecule donor with a higher HOMO level and better miscibility with the acceptor.
