  • Co-Saliency-Enhanced Deep Recurrent Convolutional Networks for Human Fall Detection in E-Healthcare
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Annual International Conference of the IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society, EMBS. - 1557-170X. ; 2018-July, s. 1572-1575
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper addresses the issue of fall detection from videos for e-healthcare and assisted-living. Instead of using conventional hand-crafted features from videos, we propose a fall detection scheme based on co-saliency-enhanced recurrent convolutional network (RCN) architecture for fall detection from videos. In the proposed scheme, a deep learning method RCN is realized by a set of Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) in segment-levels followed by a Recurrent Neural Network (RNN), Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM), to handle the time-dependent video frames. The co-saliency-based method enhances salient human activity regions hence further improves the deep learning performance. The main contributions of the paper include: (a) propose a recurrent convolutional network (RCN) architecture that is dedicated to the tasks of human fall detection in videos; (b) integrate a co-saliency enhancement to the deep learning scheme for further improving the deep learning performance; (c) extensive empirical tests for performance analysis and evaluation under different network settings and data partitioning. Experiments using the proposed scheme were conducted on an open dataset containing multicamera videos from different view angles, results have shown very good performance (test accuracy 98.96%). Comparisons with two existing methods have provided further support to the proposed scheme.

  • Maskininlärningsbaserad indexering av digitaliserade museiartefakter - projektrapport
  • 2012
• Integration of Multi-scale Spatial Digital Twins in Metaverse Based on Multi-dimensional Hash Geocoding
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: IMX '24. - : Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). - 9798400705038 ; , s. 56-63
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • With the popularization of the metaverse, virtual reality mapping technology based on digital twins has generated a large amount of spatial data. These data are multidimensional, multi-scale, mobile, and distributed. In order to fully utilize these data, we propose a non mutation multidimensional hash geocoding that can organize and store data with geographic features, and achieve data mapping at different scales from macro to micro. The mapping between them can achieve joint utilization of data of various scales. On this basis, we propose a block network secure storage mapping model for spatial digital twins, which can securely and reliably organize and map spatial data. This article also looks forward to the possible emergence of digital twins of different dimensions and scales in the future metaverse, and proposes an adaptive 3D reconstruction method based on this to adapt to digital twins models of different scales in the metaverse. On the basis of our work, we will further promote the development of the spatial digital twin metaverse.

  • Poster: Property specification patterns for robotic missions
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - International Conference on Software Engineering. - New York, NY, USA : ACM. - 0270-5257. ; Part F137351, s. 434-435
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Engineering dependable software for mobile robots is becoming increasingly important. A core asset in engineering mobile robots is the mission specification-A formal description of the goals that mobile robots shall achieve. Such mission specifications are used, among others, to synthesize, verify, simulate, or guide the engineering of robot software. Development of precise mission specifications is challenging. Engineers need to translate the mission requirements into specification structures expressed in a logical language-A laborious and error-prone task. To mitigate this problem, we present a catalog of mission specification patterns for mobile robots. Our focus is on robot movement, one of the most prominent and recurrent specification problems for mobile robots. Our catalog maps common mission specification problems to recurrent solutions, which we provide as templates that can be used by engineers. The patterns are the result of analyzing missions extracted from the literature. For each pattern, we describe usage intent, known uses, relationships to other patterns, and-most importantly-A template representing the solution as a logical formula in temporal logic. Our specification patterns constitute reusable building blocks that can be used by engineers to create complex mission specifications while reducing specification mistakes. We believe that our patterns support researchers working on tool support and techniques to synthesize and verify mission specifications, and language designers creating rich domain-specific languages for mobile robots, incorporating our patterns as language concepts.

  • Benchmarking usability of patient portals in Estonia, Finland, Norway, and Sweden
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Medical Informatics. - : Elsevier. - 1386-5056 .- 1872-8243. ; 181
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • INTRODUCTION: Poor usability is a barrier to widespread adoption of electronic health records (EHR). Providing good usability is especially challenging in the health care context, as there is a wide variety of patient users. Usability benchmarking is an approach for improving usability by evaluating and comparing the strength and weaknesses of systems. The main purpose of this study is to benchmark usability of patient portals across countries. METHODS: A mixed-methods survey approach was applied to benchmark the national patient portals offering patient access to EHR in Estonia, Finland, Norway, and Sweden. These Nordic countries have similar public healthcare systems, and they are pioneers in offering patients access to EHR for several years. In a survey of 29,334 patients, both patients' quantitative ratings of usability and their qualitative descriptions of very positive and very negative peak experiences of portal use were collected. RESULTS: The usability scores ranged from good to fair level of usability. The narratives of very positive and very negative experiences included the benefits of the patient portals and experienced usability issues. The regression analysis of results showed that very positive and negative experiences of patient portal use explain 19-35% of the variation of usability scores in the four countries. The percentage of patients who reported very positive or very negative experiences in each country was unrelated to the usability scores across countries. CONCLUSIONS: The survey approach could be used to evaluate usability with a wide variety of users and it supported learning from comparison across the countries. The combination of quantitative and qualitative data provided an approximation of the level of the perceived usability, and identified usability issues to be improved and useful features that patients appreciate. Further work is needed to improve the comparability of the varied samples across countries.

  • Statistical Analysis of Requirements Prioritization for Transition to Web Technologies : A Case Study in an Electric Power Organization
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Software Quality. Model-Based Approaches for Advanced Software and Systems Engineering. - Cham : Springer. - 9783319036021 - 9783319036014 ; , s. 63-84
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transition from an existing IT system to modern Web technologies provides multiple benefits to an organization and its customers. Such a transition in a large organization involves various groups of stakeholders who may prioritize differently the requirements of the software under development. In our case study, the organization is a leading domestic company in the field of electricity power. The existing online system supports the customer service along with the technical activities and has more than 1,500 registered users, while simultaneous access can be reached by 300 users. The paper presents an empirical study where 51 employees in different roles prioritize 18 software requirements using hierarchical cumulative voting. The goal of this study is to test significant differences in prioritization between groups of stakeholders. Statistical methods involving data transformation, ANOVA and Discriminant Analysis were applied to data. The results showed significant differences between roles of the stakeholders in certain requirements.

  • Vetting automatically generated trace links: What information is useful to human analysts?
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - 2018 IEEE 26th International Requirements Engineering Conference, RE 2018. ; , s. 52-63
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Automated traceability has been investigated for over a decade with promising results. However, a human analyst is needed to vet the generated trace links to ensure their quality. The process of vetting trace links is not trivial and while previous studies have analyzed the performance of the human analyst, they have not focused on the analyst's information needs. The aim of this study is to investigate what context information the human analyst needs. We used design science research, in which we conducted interviews with ten practitioners in the traceability area to understand the information needed by human analysts. We then compared the information collected from the interviews with existing literature. We created a prototype tool that presents this information to the human analyst. To further understand the role of context information, we conducted a controlled experiment with 33 participants. Our interviews reveal that human analysts need information from three different sources: 1) from the artifacts connected by the link, 2) from the traceability information model, and 3) from the tracing algorithm. The experiment results show that the content of the connected artifacts is more useful to the analyst than the contextual information of the artifacts.

  • Defining Requirements Strategies in Agile: A Design Science Research Study
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Lecture Notes in Computer Science (including subseries Lecture Notes in Artificial Intelligence and Lecture Notes in Bioinformatics). - Cham : Springer International Publishing. - 1611-3349 .- 0302-9743. ; 13709 LNCS, s. 73-89
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Research shows that many of the challenges currently encountered with agile development are related to requirements engineering. Based on design science research, this paper investigates critical challenges that arise in agile development from an undefined requirements strategy. We explore potential ways to address these challenges and synthesize the key building blocks of requirements strategies. Our design science research rests on a multiple case study with three industrial cases in the domains of communication technology, security services, and automotive. We relied on a total of 20 interviews, two workshops, participant observation in two cases, and document analysis in each of the cases to understand concrete challenges and workflows. In each case, we define a requirements strategy in collaboration with process managers and experienced engineers. From this experience, we extract guidelines for defining requirements strategies in agile development.

  • Human-Machine Interface Considerations for Design and Testing in Distributed Sociotechnical Systems
  • 2015
  • Licentiatavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The increasing concerns for safety and environmental sustainability create demands on the development of future maritime transportation strategies. One way to meet these demands is the concept of autonomous unmanned vessels for intercontinental voyages. As automation is being introduced onboard and watch keeping operations being migrated to the shore, there is a risk introducing new human factor issues among the various stakeholder groups and add to the complexity of the actors’ roles. This licentiate was based on the context of an EU research project MUNIN (Maritime Unmanned Ship through Intelligence in Networks) about remote monitoring and controlling autonomous unmanned ships where the bridge and engine control room were moved from the ship to a land based control station.Human Machine Interface, as a mediating artefact in the complex system to bridge automation/engine control is of importance for situation awareness, reliability, efficiency, effectiveness, resilience and safety. The purpose of the thesis is to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the complexity of Human Machine Interface in a distributed complex system by exploring the experiences of the human agents during the designing and testing phases of a designed for purpose Human Machine Interface. The results reveal prominent human factor issues related to situation awareness and automation bias within such a complex distributed sociotechnical system, which sheds light on the design considerations of Human Machine Interface. Loss of presence can lead to critical perceptual bottlenecks which could negatively impact upon the operators; the organizational factors also greatly shape individual and team performance. It indicates that the contextual factors in the distributed sociotechnical system must be accommodated by the interface design through a holistic systemic approach. The Human Machine Interface shall not only support data visualization, but also the process and context in which data are utilized and understood for consensus decision-making.
