- This chapter undertakes a brief review of the feasibility of expedited arbitration for investment disputes, given their peculiarities and complexity, noting that, at this time, this is still work in progress. This is done with reference to the ICSID Amendment Process, as well as to the work of UNCITRAL Working Group II, although the Group is still to decide on whether the proposed expedited rules would apply to other types of arbitration proceedings than commercial ones. Before advancing to these core issues, the chapter will first take a look at expedited arbitration provisions in institutional arbitration and identify some key unsettled issues, which are either likely to emerge or are already addressed in the UNCITRAL and ICSID discussions.

- Den här artikeln utgår ifrån personalens perspektiv. Första delen är resultat från en enkätstudie som fokuserar på hur personal förändrat sitt sätt att arbeta sedan de började arbeta på familjecentral. De flesta upplever att eftersom de har andra professioner i samma hus lättare upptäcker familjer med extra behov av stöd och bättre kan fokusera på sina egna arbetsuppgifter. Som fördjupning av svaren i enkäten har olika personalkategorier ombetts skriva en kortfattad berättelse om sitt eget arbete på familjecentral. Sjuksköterskor, barnmorska, psykolog, socionom, förskollärare, bibliotekarie och samordnare berättar hur de arbetar. Slutsatserna från artikeln är att familjecentraler kan ses som ett svar på att stödet till blivande och småbarnsföräldrar har utökats på de områden som den traditionella mödra- och barnhälsovården har sett som problematisk att möta. Sannolikt ökar förutsättningarna för att de som behöver extra stöd också kan få möjlighet till detta under förutsättning att extra stöd finns när familjecentralens resurser inte räcker till.

Entangled dynamos and Joule heating in the Earth's ionosphere

- The Earth's neutral atmosphere is the driver of the well-known solar quiet (Sq) and other magnetic variations observed for more than 100 years. Yet the understanding of how the neutral wind can accomplish a dynamo effect has been incomplete. A new viable model is presented where a dynamo effect is obtained only in the case of winds perpendicular to the magnetic field B that do not map along B. Winds where uxB is constant have no effect. We identify Sq as being driven by wind differences at magnetically conjugate points and not by a neutral wind per se. The view of two different but entangled dynamos is favoured, with some conceptual analogy to quantum mechanical states. Because of the large preponderance of the neutral gas mass over the ionized component in the Earth's ionosphere, the dominant effect of the plasma adjusting to the winds is Joule heating. The amount of global Joule heating power from Sq is estimated, with uncertainties, to be much lower than Joule heating from ionosphere-magnetosphere coupling at high latitudes in periods of strong geomagnetic activity. However, on average both contributions could be relatively comparable. The global contribution of heating by ionizing solar radiation in the same height range should be 2-3 orders of magnitude larger.

Polymorphisms within base and nucleotide excision repair pathways and risk of differentiated thyroid carcinoma

- The thyrocytes are exposed to high levels of oxidative stress which could induce DNA damages. Base excision repair (BER) is one of the principal mechanisms of defense against oxidative DNA damage, however recent evidences suggest that also nucleotide excision repair (NER) could be involved. The aim of present work was to identify novel differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) risk variants in BER and NER genes. For this purpose, the most strongly associated SNPs within NER and BER genes found in our previous GWAS on DTC were selected and replicated in an independent series of samples for a new case-control study. Although a positive signal was detected at the nominal level of 0.05 for rs7689099 (encoding for an aminoacid change proline to arginine at codon 117 within NEIL3), none of the considered SNPs (i.e. rs7990340 and rs690860 within RFC3, rs3744767 and rs1131636 within RPA1, rs16962916 and rs3136166 in ERCC4, and rs17739370 and rs7689099 in NEIL3) was associated with the risk of DTC when the correction of multiple testing was applied. In conclusion, a role of NER and BER pathways was evoked in the susceptibility to DTC. However, this seemed to be limited to few polymorphic genes and the overall effect size appeared weak.

Verktyg för småföretagens arbetsmiljö - Behov, Marknadsföring och Utformning

- En litteraturstudie och en kartläggning av ett 80-tal verktyg avsedda för småföretag har genomförts. Syftet har varit att lyfta fram kunskap om: 1. Vilka behov småföretag har av verktyg 2. Hur man utformar verktyg för att de ska passa småföretag 3. Hur man marknadsför verktyg till småföretag En modell har utvecklats där företagets upplevda behov, verktygets marknadsföring och utformning avgör om ett företag införskaffar ett verktyg, använder verktyget och om man uppnår önskad effekt med verktyget. Resultatet visar att man i vissa fall utvecklat verktyg som företagen själva inte upp-levt något behov av. Om företagens behov saknas, saknas också förutsättningarna för att företaget ska skaffa verktyget. Marknadsföringen av verktygen är ofta otillräcklig. Det är viktigt att man an-passar marknadsföringens kanaler till den målgrupp man vill nå. Vidareförmedlare är en kanal med god potential för att kunna nå ut med verktyg till småföretag. Verktygens utformning är i vissa fall dåligt anpassad till småföretag. Vissa verktyg är svåra att förstå eller för komplexa och långa. Ett verktygs utformning måste alltid anpassas till målgruppen och verktygets omfattning måste stå i proportion till vad företagen upplever realistiskt.

Det finns ett stort behov av att problematisera hur skolans praktik påverkas och kan vara en del av den av den tekniska utvecklingen.I denna bok presenterar vi ett flertal rapporter från forsknings- och samverkansprojektet Framtidens Digitala Lärande i Skolan (FDLIS). Boken är skriven av både forskare och personal inom skola och förskola, och utgör därmed ett unikt bidrag i att problematisera framtidens digitala lärande i skolan från olika perspektiv.

The social dimension of sustainable product development

- Product development can play a key role in society’s transition toward sustainability. However, methodological support for this is immature, particularly regarding the social dimension, and as it remains largely unclear among companies what social sustainability means, it is hard for them to assess how they and their products contribute to a socially sustainable society or not. Because social sustainability has been overlooked for long in product development research, there is a need to build methodological foundations for how companies can integrate social sustainability considerations in their practices.The overall aim of this thesis was to explore how the social dimension of sustainability could be strengthened in the context of product development and specifically how a systemic, systematic and strategic sustainability perspective could be included to provide better support for decision-making and innovation for social sustainability.The research included industrial case studies to explore current practices and needs, to prototype and test initial decision-support, to reflect on challenges and opportunities, and to create a conceptual approach for improving existing practices. Specific methods and techniques included literature reviews, interviews, prototyping and typology building.Insights include that: (i) organizations that show a better understanding of the complexity of social sustainability and have a broader perspective of its interdependencies have a way of organizing that overcomes traditional hierarchies and allows for more collaborative and strategic work in this area; (ii) the applied systems perspective clearly determines how encompassing and aligned the scope and definition of social sustainability become in an organization’s practices; (iii) social sustainability impacts connected to products’ lifecycles, when addressed, are often considered by functions outside of product development; (iv) analysis as decision-support has several limitations, particularly in dealing with supply chain impacts. Mitigating the risk of an unsustainable supply chain is unlikely to occur through simply selecting suppliers based on ‘country social sustainability score’, but rather requires making design decisions early in the innovation process and actively seeking to improve social conditions in the supply chains. Building on these insights, a typology containing three types of social sustainability approaches in product development organizations was developed. The insular, the connected and the systemic types describe elements that differentiate approaches, and that taken together determine when an approach has the potential to strategically contribute to social sustainability. The differences also determine the constraints that product developers work with when pursuing social sustainability goals. Integrating social sustainability in product development requires rethinking established practices. The possibility of just complementing previous theories and methodologies within sustainable product development with social sustainability aspects should not be taken for granted as there are significant differences and therefore extensive development of new theory and methodology might be needed. This should be investigated further. Identification of leverage points to intervene in organizations to help them shift to a more systemic perspective and maximize the organization’s ability to strategically work with social sustainability is also an interesting line of further research.
