  • Hydrochar-Amended Substrates for Production of Containerized Pine Tree Seedlings under Different Fertilization Regimes
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Agronomy. - : MDPI. - 2073-4395. ; 9:7, s. 1-17
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • There is a growing body of research that recognizes the potentials of biochar application in agricultural production systems. However, little is known about the effects of biochar, especially hydrochar, on production of containerized seedlings under nursery conditions. This study aimed to test the effects of hydrochar application on growth, quality, nutrient and heavy metal contents, and mycorrhizal association of containerized pine seedlings. The hydrochar used in this study was produced through hydrothermal carbonization of paper mill biosludge at 200 °C. Two forms of hydrochar (powder and pellet) were mixed with peat at ratios of 10% and 20% (v/v) under three levels of applied commercial fertilizer (nil, half and full rates). Application of hydrochar had positive or neutral effects on shoot biomass and stem diameter compared with control seedlings (without hydrochar) under tested fertilizer levels. Analysis of the natural logarithmic response ratios (LnRR) of quality index and nutrient and heavy metal uptake revealed that application of 20% (v/v) hydrochar powder or pellet with 50% fertilizer resulted in same quality pine seedlings with similar heavy metal (Cu, Ni, Pb, Zn and Cr) and nutrient (P, K, Ca and Mg) contents as untreated seedlings supplied with 100% fertilizer. Colonization percentage by ectomycorrhizae significantly increased when either forms of hydrochar were applied at a rate of 20% under unfertilized condition. The results of this study implied that application of proper rates of hydrochar from biosludge with adjusted levels of liquid fertilizer may reduce fertilizer requirements in pine nurseries.

  • Elevated FVIII levels in hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia : Implications for clinical management
  • Ingår i: Laryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology. - 2378-8038.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Objectives: The objective of this study was twofold: to determine the prevalence of arterial and venous thromboembolic events in the Norwegian Hereditary Hemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) population, and to explore potential factors linked to such events, with particular emphasis on FVIII. Methods: Patients with an HHT diagnosis attending the Otorhinolaryngology Department at Oslo University Hospital—Rikshospitalet were included consecutively between April 2021 and November 2022. We recorded the participants' medical history with an emphasis on thromboembolic events. Measurements of blood constituents, including FVIII, FIX, vWF, hemoglobin, iron, ferritin, and CRP were performed. Results: One hundred and thirty-four patients were included in the study. The total prevalence of thromboembolic events among the participants was 23.1%. FVIII levels were high (>150 IU/dL) in the majority of HHT patients (n = 84) (68.3%) and were significantly associated with thromboembolic events (p <.001), as was age. Of the patients with high FVIII levels, 28 (33%) had experienced a thromboembolic event. Furthermore, FVIII levels were measured consecutively in 51 patients and were found to fluctuate above or below 150 IU/dL in 25% of these cases. Conclusion: Thromboembolic events are highly prevalent in the Norwegian HHT population and are significantly associated with FVIII levels. FVIII levels can fluctuate, and measurements should be repeated in HHT patients to assess the risk of thromboembolic events. Level of Evidence: 4.

  • Semantic and Articulated Pedestrian Sensing Onboard a Moving Vehicle
  • 2023
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • It is difficult to perform 3D reconstruction from on-vehicle gathered video due to the large forward motion of the vehicle. Even object detection and human sensing models perform significantly worse on onboard videos when compared to standard benchmarks because objects often appear far away from the camera compared to the standard object detection benchmarks, image quality is often decreased by motion blur and occlusions occur often. This has led to the popularisation of traffic data-specific benchmarks. Recently Light Detection And Ranging (LiDAR) sensors have become popular to directly estimate depths without the need to perform 3D reconstructions. However, LiDAR-based methods still lack in articulated human detection at a distance when compared to image-based methods. We hypothesize that benchmarks targeted at articulated human sensing from LiDAR data could bring about increased research in human sensing and prediction in traffic and could lead to improved traffic safety for pedestrians.
