  • Bomber, virus, kuriosakabinett: texter om digital epistemologi
  • 2018
  • Bok (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • I boken BOMBER, VIRUS, KURIOSAKABINETT.

  • Annotating the Narrative: A Plot of Scenes, Events, Characters and Other Intriguing Elements
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: LIVE and LEARN. - Gothenburg : Department of Swedish, Multilingualism, Language Technology. - 9789187850837 ; , s. 161-164
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Analysis of narrative structure in prose fiction is a field which is gaining increased attention in NLP, and which potentially has many interesting and more far-reaching applications. This paper provides a summary and motivation of two different but interrelated strands of work that we have carried out in this field during the last years: on the one hand, principles and guidelines for annotation, and on the other, methods for automatic annotation.

  • Kryptovalutor – energiförbrukning och miljöeffekter
  • 2023

  • In Praise of JESTPE Associate Editors-Part IV
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics. - 2168-6777 .- 2168-6785. ; 9:6, s. 6455-6459
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Adefining component that makes the Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (JESTPE) a predominant publication in the field of power electronics is our past and current associate editors. Although they are largely hidden and unheard until papers they recommend for publication appear in print, the efforts of our associate editors are extremely important in producing the JESTPE for the readers. The tasks of an associate editor include reading the submissions, finding competent reviewers, reading the comments from the reviewers, and making recommendations to the assigned editors, all of which are to be accomplished in a timely manner. In some cases, associate editors expend lots of time contacting busy reviewers to submit their comments, making recommendations, and addressing rejected paper complaints from the authors.

  • Fantastiska fröknar. Studier av lärarinnegestalter i svensk skönlitteratur
  • 2004
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This dissertation deals with women teachers in Swedish fiction by both male and female authors in the period from 1830 to 2003. It presents and discusses life narratives of individual fictional teachers in 127 texts. The study is organised chronologically and thematically and includes the historical and cultural framework. It should be seen as a contribution to the debate about the value of using ficiton as a historical and sociological source. The chapters are: "Educating girls in the home" is about governesses, often fatherless and unmarried daughters of the middle class. Socially precariously balanced between the master family upstairs and the servant downstairs, a stranger who lives with the family and observes its doings, the governess is well suited to be the narrator of a literary text. "Educating girls for their husbands’ needs" deals with headmistresses of 19th century girls’ boarding schools. These women were often presented negatively in fiction – for disparate reasons, as the study finds. On the one hand they offered a superficial and fragmentary education; on the other they were targets of polemics against a class of women who were economically independent of men and had considerable influence in shaping the views of their pupils. "Educating girls for their own needs" studies education aimed at liberating young women, especially through natural sciences and through reading and discussing literature. "Educating girls for the home and the profession" looks at teachers in girls’ schools. Some of these fight for female suffrage; others are confronted with social isolation or financial and romantic plights. "Educating the children of the people" deals with teachers in the ”paupers’ schools” and the public schools after 1842. They are often portrayed as dutiful, self-sacrificing and terrifyingly exposed. Many of them live under miserable conditions in remote, isolated schoolhouses, often with low pay under the jurisdiction of the local pastor. Those who are not attacked and raped still live in constant fear of what might happen. "The woman teacher as lover, mother and wife" focuses on the emotional life of women teachers. Male authors tend to present them with a strong unsatisfied sexuality, while female authors talk about them as longing for close relationships and a family of their own. "Women teachers and their pupils" deals with attraction and aggression between teacher and pupiland talks about pedagogic ideas and teaching methods including corporal punishment. In fiction women teachers and pupils who are sexually attracted to one another is a subject at the turn of the century 2000.

  • Embodied Rhythm in Space and Time A Poem and a Sculpture
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Style. - : Project Muse. - 0039-4238 .- 2374-6629. ; 51:4, s. 413-441
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, we outline the concept of aesthetic rhythm as an embodied lived experience. We investigate the temporal rhythms of a poem by Seamus Heaney and the spatial rhythms of a sculpture by Lena Hopsch, discussing similarities and differences between the two modalities. Previous research on aesthetic rhythm has mostly focused on meter, but here we use a broader concept of rhythm as we refer to - pre-metered forms from classical antiquity. Aesthetic rhythm in an artwork is described as a play with proportions in time and space. Rhythm continuously stages bodily experiences of balance and direction. We develop the embodiment perspective of Maurice Merleau-Ponty as well as Mark Johnson's concept of image schema. The schemas are shown to be premodal as rhythms function the same in temporal and spatial artworks. We also demonstrate a model for interpretation, developed out of the rhythms of the artifact.

  • When You Hear the Chime : Movable Books and the Dramaturgical Functions of Sound in Mixed Reality Interactive Narrative Design
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Interactive Storytelling. - Cham : Springer Nature Switzerland AG. - 9783031222979 - 9783031222986 ; , s. 427-440
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we outline the pre-digital histories of recorded and synthesized sound, exploring their entanglements with both the literal codex and larger literary imaginary. In particular, we focus on intersections of sound and movable books, offering the rich genealogy of the movable book as a fertile addition to the IDN (interactive digital narrative) family tree, as an example of pre-computational interactive narrative with a long history. Drawing on this intermedial history, along with our own experience designing an MR (mixed reality) movable book, we offer a taxonomy of dramaturgical functions of sound in MR IDN. We demonstrate the use of this taxonomy in analysis of our own work, and suggest opportunities for expanding the taxonomy in support of future speculative research and design imaginaries for IDNs.
