  • Proceedings from the Second International Interdisciplinary Conference on Perspectives and Limits of Dialogism in Mikhail Bakhtin, 3-5 June, 2009
  • 2010
  • Proceedings (redaktörskap) (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • (Preface) This conference focused on the core of Bakhtin’s theory, which concerns dialogue and dialogicality. The conference themes reflected his notion that the “I” and the “self”, the “you” and the “other” are embedded in each other so that each affects the other and as a whole they create a centrifugal force around which communication and life circle. The choice of the two-faced Janus figure as the symbol of the conference reflects the inward and outward aspects of communication’s inherent dialogue and dialogicality. As an ancient Roman god of beginnings and doorways, of the rising and setting sun, looking in opposite directions, Janus has been associated with polarities, that is, seeing different and contrasting aspects and characteristics. As a metaphor it describes Bakhtin’s view on dialogues and dialogicality within or between “selves” and “others”. As a metaphorical symbol it captured the intent, purpose and outcome of the conference as reflected in this collection of papers.

  • Posthumanistiska nyckelstexter
  • 2012. - 1

  • Fear of Forests
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: AXESS. - Stockholm : Axess Magasin. - 1651-0941. ; :9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the extensive note book written by Pehr Osbeck (1723-1805), the world traveler, from his student years in 1746-47, now in the collections of the Swedish Medical Society, we can follow how his professor methodically developed his theory of diseases with particular reference to the fourth class, morbi mentales, mental illnesses. This class is subdivided into special orders, just like the flora, the first of which deals with deficiencies in judgment, morbi judiciales. Other orders concern imagination (imaginatio) and the will / desire (voluntas). In their turn, these are divided into sub-groups (genera).

  • Morbi Mentales : Linnaeus’  Classification of  Mental Illness
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: LINN S’O’S NEWS. Newsletter of the Linnean Society of New South Wales. - Kingsford NSW, Australia : The Linnean Society. ; :135, s. 2-6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Parallel to the classification of the vegetal world, Carl Linnaeus developed in pamphlets and seminars a system of medical diagnosis that comprised both somatic and mental illness. The Systema naturæ was complemented by Systema morborum, the system of diseases, which he presented in an unpublished lecture series at Uppsala University. In his nosological system, using symptoms as criteria of classification, he arranged different “species” of diseases in classes, orders, and genera in the same manner as he classified plants. With characteristic methodological zeal and attention to detail, and with a wealth of observations and case studies, Linnaeus studied mental disorders.

  • The 5K run in popular fiction : Reading about parkrun and couch to 5K
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Frontiers in Sports and Active Living. - : Frontiers Media SA. - 2624-9367. ; 5, s. 1-11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recent years have witnessed great interest in mass-participation running events (Hindley, 2020), and organisations such as parkrun and fitness programmes like Couch to 5K, have been instrumental in enabling participation for inexperienced runners. Concomitant with this has been a number of fictional works which centre on the 5K run. I contend that exploring fictional texts can offer a fresh take on how movements such as parkrun and Couch to 5K have entered the popular imagination. The four texts explored are Wake’s Saturday Morning Park Run (2020), Park’s A Run in the Park (2019), Boleyn’s Coming Home to Cariad Cove (2022), and James’s I Follow You (2020). The analysis is arranged thematically around the categories of health promotion, individual transformation, and community building. I argue that these texts frequently operate as health promotional tools and can help familiarise would-be runners with how parkrun and Couch to 5K work.
