  • The Framing of Corporate Social Responsibility and the Globalization of National Business Systems : A Longitudinal Case Study
  • 2010
  • In: Journal of Business Ethics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0167-4544 .- 1573-0697. ; 93:4, s. 653-669
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • The globalization movement in recent decades has meant rapid growth in trade, financial transactions, and cross-country ownership of economic assets. In this article, we examine how the globalization of national business systems has influenced the framing of corporate social responsibility (CSR). This is done using text analysis of CEO letters appearing in the annual reports of 15 major corporations in Sweden during a period of transformational change. The results show that the discourse about CSR in the annual reports has changed from a national and communitarian view of social responsibility (cf. a negotiated view of CSR) toward an international and individualistic view of social responsibility (cf. a self-regulating view of CSR). The article contributes theoretically (1) by adding a national–global dimension to previous conceptualizations of CSR and (2) by showing that the rise of CSR discourse and activities in the last 10 years does not have to imply an increased commitment and interest in corporate responsibility per se, only that there are increased societal expectations that corporations should develop the capability to act more independently as moral agents.

  • Exploiting frame semantics and frame-semantic parsing for automatic extraction of typological information from descriptive grammars of natural languages
  • 2019
  • In: International Conference Recent Advances in Natural Language Processing, RANLP. - Shoumen : Incoma Ltd. - 1313-8502. - 9789544520557 - 9789544520564 ; 2019-September, s. 1247-1256
  • Conference paper (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • We describe a novel system for automatic extraction of typological linguistic information from descriptive grammars of natural languages, applying the theory of frame semantics in the form of frame-semantic parsing. The current proof-of-concept system covers a few selected linguistic features, but the methodology is general and can be extended not only to other typological features but also to descriptive grammars written in languages other than English. Such a system is expected to be a useful assistance for automatic curation of typological databases which otherwise are built manually, a very labor and time consuming as well as cognitively taxing enterprise.

  • Modalitet och förändring : En studie av må och kunna i fornsvenska
  • 2007
  • Doctoral thesis (other academic/artistic)abstract
    • This thesis investigates the development of root and non-root meanings of modal verbs through an empirical study of the verbs må and kunna in Old Swedish. Modality is taken to refer domains in which possibility contrasts with necessity. In Old Swedish, må (magha) and kunna 'may' and kunna 'can' have the potential to express most of the meanings relating to possibility and necessity, as well as lexical meanings. The two verbs are investigated in an Old Swedish corpus consisting of legal and religious texts. Certain default correlations between type of modal and semantic and syntatic enviroments, which have been proposed in the litterature, are investigated. The result shows that må frequently expresses participant-internal possibility, 'ability' and deonic possibility, 'permission', whereas kunna is mainly associated with participant-internal and general external possibility. Of particular interest is the use of må in conditions, which provides evidence that this construction type may have played a bridging role in the development on non-root modality. Using the framework of force dynamics, the development of modal meaning is analysed as a metamorphical transfer of one consistent image-schema between different conceptual domains. the schematic components are described in terms of forces and barriers. The proposed transfer from a physical to a social domain and further on to a mental and a conversional domain provides a good account of the diachronic development.

  • BBB vs WWW : Digital epistemologi och litterär text från Göran Printz Påhlsson till Ralf Andtbacka
  • 2015
  • In: Tidskrift för litteraturvetenskap. - Uppsala : Föreningen för utgivandet av Tidskrift för litteraturvetenskap. - 1104-0556 .- 2001-094X. ; 45:1, s. 45-60
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • BBB vs. WWW.  Digital Epistemology and the Literary Text, from Göran Printz Påhlsson to Ralf Andtbacka This paper explores the concept of “Digital Epistemology” as a critical perspective, or a mode of thought. The concept of “the digital” here is not primarily related to technical tools, electronic works of art, or to the production of databases. Instead, the digital is approached as a form of “lens” focused on the relation between cultural history, literary texts and a digital discourse. By approaching the concept in this way it is possible to detect digital traces in literary texts that do not explicitly deal with the digital as motif or theme, and where the author may or may not be aware of the ways in which his/her work is related to a digital epistemology. Examin- ing a few short examples from different literary texts, this paper further establishes a media- archaeological juxtaposition between digital culture and pre-modern modes of thought such as: the Wunderkammer, the emblem, the fragment, and also the archival principle of pertinence. The essay argues that digital epistemology possesses a dual function: enhancing the reading of art and literature in the light of digital culture, and inviting a reconsideration – and even resto-ration – of the impact of pre-modern aesthetics.
