- The article is a follow-up of the author´s 1990 corpus-based study of the same phenomenon, viz. the grammaticalization of the participle "following" to a preposition, synonymous with "after". The main findings are (1) that the usage was well established earlier than has previously been noted, (2) that the frequency of prepositional "following" in British English has more or less quadrupled during the last 50 years, and (3) that automated tagging is far from reliable when it comes to items in the process of grammaticalization.

- The Swedish infinitive marker "att" is disappearing after "kommer", the major construction for indicating future time. "Kommer" is originally a main verb, but the loss of the infinitive marker of the second verb in the phrase gives it the chief characteristic of an auxiliary, which makes the proecess one of grammaticalization. Based on a survey among Swedish students it is shown that both the age of speakers/writers and the syntax of the sentence in question are crucial factors for the choice between "att" and omission.
