  • O - factor analysis of mood ratings
  • 1981
  • Ingår i: Applied psychological measurement. - : SAGE Publications. - 0146-6216 .- 1552-3497. ; 5:4, s. 459-465
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In O-factor analysis an analysis is made on data from many variables with only one individual who is measured on several occasions. The occasions are then correlated across the variables.  This paper demonstrates the usefulness of O-factor analysis in studying how feelings are structured and how situational factors influence feelings. Fours subjects made self-ratings on several occasions using variables they had chosen themselves. Data were O-factor analyzed, and factors  were interpreted in terms of feelings common for situations which loaded on the factors. Problems and applicability of the method in psychotherapy research are discussed.

  • Borderline diagnosis from hospital records : reliability and validity of Gunderson's diagnostic interview for Borderlines (DIB)
  • 1985
  • Ingår i: Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease. - 0022-3018 .- 1539-736X. ; 173:1, s. 32-4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Two trained and experienced clinical psychologists and two nontrained students rated the sections in Gunderson's Diagnostic Interview for Borderlines (DIB) on the basis of hospital records for 16 patients (DIB-R). The results showed that both reliability and validity, i.e., correlations with an actual interview, were unexpectedly high, around .80 for the trained judges and around .55 for the nontrained judges. The conclusion is that the DIB may be used for retrospective diagnosis of borderline patients from hospital records.

  • Long-term effect on mother-infant behaviour of extra contact during the first hour post partum : III. Follw-up at one year
  • 1984
  • Ingår i: Scandinavian journal of social medicine. - : Associations of Public Health in the Nordic Countries Regions. - 1403-4948 .- 1651-1905 .- 0300-8037. ; 12:2, s. 91-103
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The present prospective study examined, one year after delivery, the possible effects of early extra contact during the first hour following delivery. An extra skin-to-skin contact and suckling contact was allowed 22 primiparous mothers and their infants (P+ group). One control group of 20 primiparous mothers and their infants were given routine care immediately after birth (P group). During observation of a physical examination of the infant, ‘extra contact mothers’ held and touched their infants more frequently and more often talked positively to their infants than did mothers given routine care. ‘Extra contact mothers’ had returned to their professional employment outside the home to a lesser extent than had routine care mothers. A greater proportion of ‘extra contact’ infants slept in a room of their own. In the P+ group, mothers who had returned to gainful employment were also able to have their babies sleep in a room of their own—no such correspondence was found in the P group. The Gesell Developmental Schedules revealed that, in four parts out of five, infants with extra contact immediately after birth, were ahead of those in the control group. On the other hand, the Vineland Social Maturity Scale and the Cesarec Marke Personality Scheme did not reveal any major differences between the two groups. Mothers with early extra skin-to-skin contact and suckling contact breast-fed their infants on an average for 2 1/2 months longer than did routine care mothers. No other differences in feeding habits were found. The influence of extra contact was more pronounced in boy–mother than in girl–mother pairs.

  • Effect of reversal of response scales in a questionnaire
  • 1980
  • Ingår i: Perceptual and Motor Skills. - : SAGE Publications. - 0031-5125 .- 1558-688X. ; 50, s. 1125-1126
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This study investigated the effect of reversal of response scales in a questionnaire. Two versions, A and B, were constructed. A was identical with B except that all response scales were reversed in B. The two versions were randomly distributed to a group of psychology students. No statistically significant differences were found concerning means and standard deviations of the response distributions when the sign test was applied to six different groups of response scales in the questionnaire. A tendency to select response categories to the left could be seen in the data. This tendency has later been confirmed by other researchers.
