  • A literature review of consumer recycling behavior : motivational and behavioral aspects
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: The Journal of Solid Waste Technology and Management. - 1088-1697. ; 46:4, s. 597-605
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recycling is an important aspect of a sustainable society and depends to a large extent on consumers' willingness to provide the voluntary work needed to take the first critical step in many recycling systems. Based on a systematic review of articles on recycling behavior, this paper presents and discusses the findings in relation to Fogg's Beha vioral Model (FBM). Through the analysis of a corpus of 72 articles, the most important research contributions on recycling behavior are summarized and discussed. The choice of using FBM as a framework provides a new way of viewing previous research findings, and facilitates the identification of knowledge gaps. Based on the review, this work identifies and discusses four areas of potential interest for future research: the development of a comprehensive conceptual model for recycling behavior, the inclusion of triggers, the influence of persuasive technology, and the effect of different waste fractions.

  • Landscapes of performance and technological change : Music venues in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Nashville, Tennessee
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: The Production and Consumption of Music in the Digital Age. - : Taylor & Francis. - 9781317529644 - 9781138851658 ; , s. 114-129
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This chapter explores the impact of digitization on the makers of world music within the Paris cluster. It considers how actors within the Paris cluster of world music production and consumption respond to the arrival of digital formats and Internet distribution and the ways in which digitization affects the circulation of world music. The chapter discusses the collaborative and networked nature of production in the music industry. After unpacking the structure of the Paris world music art world, as a complex and multi-levelled scene and concludes by presenting the broader implications of our findings with respect to the relationship between types of art worlds and digitization. Based on in-depth interviews with key actors in the field, people explore how some actors within that cluster perceive digitization as helping to provide access to larger markets, while others fear the erosion of the layered experience world music gives, as a portal to other cultures and traditions.

  • Reducing transportation emissions Company intentions, barriers and discriminating factors
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Benchmarking. - 1463-5771 .- 1758-4094. ; 23:3, s. 674-703
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to examine the intention of companies to reduce transportation emissions by 2020 and the barriers and the discriminating factors that affect the reduction. Design/methodology/approach - A literature review identified potential logistical and technical actions and their barriers, and discriminating factors for reducing transportation emissions. A survey of freight transport-intensive industries in Sweden examined the effects of, intention for implementation of and barriers to 12 actions to reduce CO2 emissions from freight transportation. In total, 172 logistics managers responded, representing a response rate of 40.3 per cent. Findings - Logistics service providers (LSPs) and freight owners are likely to reduce a considerable amount of CO2 emissions from freight transportation by 2020 using a combination of actions. The lowest level of confidence was for reducing CO2 emissions by changing logistics structures, while there was greater confidence by means of operational changes. The actions have few barriers, but there is often a combination of barriers to overcome. Three discriminating factors influence the intention of a firm to reduce transportation emissions: perceived potential, company size and LSP/freight owner. The industrial sector of a freight owner has minor influence. Companies that are particularly likely to reduce emissions are LSPs, large companies, and those that perceive a large reduction potential. Research limitations/implications - Logistical and technical barriers appear to hinder companies from implementing actions, while organisational barriers and external prerequisites do not. Barriers cannot be used to predict companies' intentions to reduce transportation emissions. The authors examined the impact of three discriminating factors on reduction of transportation emissions. The research is based on perceptions of well-informed managers and on companies in Sweden. Practical implications - The findings can be used by managers to identify firms for benchmarking initiatives and emissions-reducing strategies. Originality/value - The study provides insights into intended CO2 reductions in transportation by 2020. It presents new knowledge regarding barriers and discriminating factors for implementing actions to reduce transportation emissions.

  • Highly potent macrocyclic BACE-1 inhibitors incorporating a hydroxyethylamine core : Design, synthesis and X-ray crystal structures of enzyme inhibitor complexes
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry. - : Elsevier. - 0968-0896 .- 1464-3391. ; 29:14, s. 4377-4389
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A series of P1-P3 linked macrocyclic BACE-1 inhibitors containing a hydroxyethylamine (HEA) isostere scaffold has been synthesized. All inhibitors comprise a toluene or N-phenylmethanesulfonamide P2 moiety. Excellent BACE-1 potencies, both in enzymatic and cell-based assays, were observed in this series of target compounds, with the best candidates displaying cell-based IC50 values in the low nanomolar range. As an attempt to improve potency, a phenyl substituent aiming at the S3 subpocket was introduced in the macrocyclic ring. X-ray analyses were performed on selected compounds, and enzyme-inhibitor interactions are discussed.

  • The Impact of Control Strategies on the Management of Returnable Transport Items
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Transportation Research, Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review. - : Elsevier BV. - 1366-5545. ; 46:6, s. 1128-1139
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This research examines the impact of different control strategies on the management of returnable transport items (RTIs) in closed-loop supply chains. A simulation model is developed based on an empirical case and is used to explore different scenarios. The results suggest that the choice of control strategy has a significant impact on investments and operating costs, and that RTI shrinkage can be controlled either through the use of tracking systems, or choice of control strategy. Moreover, a simulation-based method for estimating the fleet size required to operate the system for the different strategies is presented.

  • On the Value of Intelligent Packaging - A Packaging Logistics Perspective
  • 2009
  • Doktorsavhandling (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Good decision-making relies on accurate, timely and reliable information. This can be supported by having intelligent packaging which allows data on the whereabouts and condition of goods to be automatically captured along a supply chain. This research reveals that, although interest in intelligent packaging in Swedish manufacturing industries is high, actual use is limited. Nevertheless, this research indicates better logistics performance for companies using intelligent packaging utilising radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, while no significant differences can be seen for companies using other Auto-ID technologies to identify packaging along a supply chain. The research also reveals that the number of identification points along the supply chain, and more extensive sharing of tracking data with supply chain partners, both upstream and downstream, and in terms of frequency and scope, seem to contribute to improved logistical performance. This result points in favour of using intelligent packaging as it will reduce time needed for bar code scanning or manual data entry, and reduce the risk of missed registrations. Information by itself, however, does not improve firm performance, but rather it is how it is used which brings about improvements. A framework for the value of intelligent packaging is proposed and discussed in relation to two in-depth empirical simulation studies. The framework present some key environmental factors which affect the potential of intelligent packaging to deliver value. The simulation studies also provide conclusive evidence that information provided by intelligent packaging can be used reactively as well as proactively, for planning and decision-making which together improve logistics performance and reduce costs. More disappointing, however, is that in neither of the two intelligent packaging systems investigated, did much use of the data actually take place. It seems that intelligent use of intelligent packaging might be even less common than intelligent packaging itself. This result may help to explain the reluctance of companies to actually invest in RFID, despite the high interest expressed.
