  • Oversimplified Standard Cosmology results in Fictional Dark Energy & Dark Matter
  • 2024
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The standard approach to cosmology is: 1. Construct an overly simplified model. 2. Deduce its general relativistic consequences (Friedmann's equations). 3. Observe that they do not correspond to the real universe. 4. Invent increasingly many "amendments" (LCDM: dark energy, dark matter + additional free parameters) to save the model. We, instead, point out that full nonlinear gravity itself has the potential to explain cosmological observations without the introduction of hypothetical ingredients. This essay hopes to communicate the necessity of taking seriously the real, observed, "lumpy" universe and the resulting automatic nonlinearities of general relativity, instead of allowing an oversimplified "smooth" cosmological model to perpetuate a consensus worldview of a universe allegedly dominated by mysterious "dark", and never seen, components.

  • På väg mot kollektivt lärande – inom ramen för samverkan mellan skola och universitet
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Forskning och utveckling i förskola och skola (Fufos). - Piteå : Utbildningsförvaltningen, Piteå kommun. - 2004-3635. ; 3:1, s. 62-81

  • Inhaled ciclesonide in adults hospitalised with COVID-19 : a randomised controlled open-label trial (HALT COVID-19)
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: BMJ Open. - : BMJ Publishing Group Ltd. - 2044-6055. ; 13:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • OBJECTIVE: To assess the efficacy of inhaled ciclesonide in reducing the duration of oxygen therapy (an indicator of time to clinical improvement) among adults hospitalised with COVID-19.DESIGN: Multicentre, randomised, controlled, open-label trial.SETTING: 9 hospitals (3 academic hospitals and 6 non-academic hospitals) in Sweden between 1 June 2020 and 17 May 2021.PARTICIPANTS: Adults hospitalised with COVID-19 and receiving oxygen therapy.INTERVENTION: Inhaled ciclesonide 320 µg two times a day for 14 days versus standard care.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Primary outcome was duration of oxygen therapy, an indicator of time to clinical improvement. Key secondary outcome was a composite of invasive mechanical ventilation/death.RESULTS: Data from 98 participants were analysed (48 receiving ciclesonide and 50 receiving standard care; median (IQR) age, 59.5 (49-67) years; 67 (68%) men). Median (IQR) duration of oxygen therapy was 5.5 (3-9) days in the ciclesonide group and 4 (2-7) days in the standard care group (HR for termination of oxygen therapy 0.73 (95% CI 0.47 to 1.11), with the upper 95% CI being compatible with a 10% relative reduction in oxygen therapy duration, corresponding to a <1 day absolute reduction in a post-hoc calculation). Three participants in each group died/received invasive mechanical ventilation (HR 0.90 (95% CI 0.15 to 5.32)). The trial was discontinued early due to slow enrolment.CONCLUSIONS: In patients hospitalised with COVID-19 receiving oxygen therapy, this trial ruled out, with 0.95 confidence, a treatment effect of ciclesonide corresponding to more than a 1 day reduction in duration of oxygen therapy. Ciclesonide is unlikely to improve this outcome meaningfully.TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER: NCT04381364.

  • Digitalising student teachers’ practicum : working towards a joint understanding
  • 2023
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Research topic: Swedish teacher education programs comprise a coherent practicum period for 12 weeks (30 ects) at local schools. Under supervision of a local experienced teacher, student teachers’ practicum involves to plan, carry through and evaluate teaching and learning with pupils. The role of the local supervisor involves support for teacher educators’ assessment of student teachers’ abilities (e.g. subject didactical skills), which has become a burden due to heavy written analogue documentation. When the documentation fails, student teachers feel the feedback as non-relevant, vague, or as low-quality supervision. The supervisors have for a long time requested a digital version of the analogue assessment document, and in parallel, the teacher education institution has sought ways to develop opportunities for equal and high-quality supervision of student teachers. Taken this background into account, this study aims to explore change regarding opportunities and challenges of digitalising student teachers’ evaluation of practicum.  Theoretical framework: Cultural Historical Activity Theory is applied to analyse this change and the expansive learning such a change result in (Engeström & Sannino, 2016). Expansive learning is based on a 7-step cyclic process where the first four steps include the collective learning actions of 1) questioning, 2) analysing, 3) modelling a new solution, and 4) examining and testing the new model. In accordance with these four steps, the supervisors questioned the analogue assessment document, teacher education sought ways to develop equal and high-quality supervision, and the municipality asked for quality in student teachers’ practicum (1). The concept and the digital service Teaching Analytics (TA) was seen as mean to digitalising student teachers’ evaluation of practicum (2). Teacher educators held workshops in TA with supervisors and student teachers and presented a time frame (3). In practicum, student teachers and supervisors were asked to use TA (4). These four steps are further scrutinized through the concepts of stimulus, contradictions, and agency. Methodology: The study was based on a single case study design of 8 invited student teachers practicum at upper secondary school in a municipality and 8 supervisors. Three types of data were collected: (i) interviews with the supervisors regarding use of TA and with one school leader at municipality level, (ii) a questionnaire to student teachers, and (iii) visualisations of student teachers’ evaluation of practice.  Expected results: The preliminary findings indicate that the digitalisation of student teachers’ evaluation of practicum provide opportunities and challenges. Municipality stakeholders indicate a vision of good and equal supervision for student teachers due to a standardised language in TA. Student teachers indicate challenges based on contradictions about the threshold for learning Teaching Analytics and limited skills about the approach and vocabulary to analyse lessons. A second challenge concern a teacher education perspective and the perception what could manifest a digital service of the analogue assessment document. Hence, contradictions emerge between the analogue assessment document and TA.  Relevance to Nordic educational research: Few studies have used software as a service in the evaluation and analysis of student teachers’ practicum.

  • Gravity & the magical "Born Rule": Physical implications : Essay given Honorable Mention Award in the Gravity Research Foundation 2023 Awards for Essays on Gravitation
  • 2023
  • Annan publikation (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The arena of quantum theory is the abstract, unobserved and unobservable, M-dimensional Hilbert space [not equal to] spacetime. II. The arena of observations, and all events (i.e. everything) in the real physical world, is the classical 4-dimensional physical spacetime of general relativity. III. The "Born Rule" is the random process "magically" transforming I. into II. Formulations of quantum theory directly in real physical spacetime constitute examples of "locally real" theories (Clauser & Horne) and are empirically refuted by the numerous tests of Bell's theorem. When separated and treated correctly in this way, a number of fundamental problems and "paradoxes" of gravity vs. quantum theory simply vanish, such as the black hole information paradox, the cosmological constant problem and quantization of general relativity.
