  • Lifetime measurements of a triaxial band in Ce-133
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 58:6, s. 3219-3222
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Lifetimes of states within a triaxial band belonging to;the gamma-soft nucleus Ce-133 have been determined through a Doppler-broadened line shape analysis. A value, Q(t)approximate to 2.2 eb, has been found for the transition quadrupole moment which is considerably smaller than that of superdeformed structures (Q(t)approximate to 7.4 e b) in this mass region. The results are discussed in terms of deformation self-consistent calculations based on the total Routhian surface formalism. [S0556-2813(98)01912-8].

  • Yrast states of the proton drip line nucleus Sb-106
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - : American Physical Society. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 59:3, s. 1324-1327
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Yrast states of Sb-106 have been investigated in the Fe-54(Ni-58, alpha pn) reaction using in-beam gamma-spectroscopic methods and in the Cr-50(Ni-58,pn) reaction performing delayed gamma and conversion electron studies. A new isomeric state was found at 103 keV with t(1/2) = 232(21) ns. The number of start's and transitions in the proposed level scheme have been doubled. The experimental results are discussed within the framework of the shell model. [S0556-2813(99)08502-7].

  • Ar-31 examined: New limit on the beta-delayed three-proton branch
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C - Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 59:4, s. 2275-2277
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have remeasured the decay of Ar-31 with a setup sensitive to multiparticle decay branches and obtained. a new limit of 1.1 x 10(-3) (99% C.L.) on the beta-delayed three-proton branch between the isobaric analog state in Cl-31 and the ground state of Si-28. This a factor of 17 below the previously reported first observation of beta-delayed three-proton emission in Ar-31. The limit on a possible beta 3p branch to the first excited state in Si-28 is 2.9 x 10(-4). [S0556-2813(99)04404-0].

  • Decay-out of the yrast superdeformed band in Nd-136 : Towards an experimental extraction of the neutron pairing gap at large deformation
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 60:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A study of the Nd-136 nucleus has been performed with the EUROBALL III multidetector to establish the decay-out of the yrast superdeformed (SD) band. Three discrete linking transitions (754, 1456, and 1493 keV) have been discovered, establishing the position of the SD band at 7.03 MeV excitation energy with proposed spin and parity 17((-)) for the lowest observed SD state. Neutron pairing gap parameters for SD shapes have been extracted in Nd isotopes, using the strong-coupling model and odd-even mass difference formulas. The major conclusion of our phenomenological analysis is that the pairing correlations do subsist in the SD configurations of nuclei in the A = 130 mass region. [S0556-2813(99)01312-6].

  • Spin yields of neutron-rich nuclei from deep inelastic reactions
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C. Nuclear Physics. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 60:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The potential for using deep inelastic reactions to populate high-spin states in neutron-rich nuclei is studied in a series of experiments using GAMMASPHERE for gamma-ray detection and a silicon strip detector for measuring the angles of projectilelike and targetlike fragments. In three experiments 61 new transitions up to a maximum spin of 22 (h) over bar in 12 neutron-rich rare-earth nuclei were found. We observe that gamma-ray yields as a function of spin are flatter for all neutron transfer products than for inelastic excitation of either the projectile or target nucleus. Calculations are presented which indicate that this difference cannot be accounted for by quasielastic processes, but more likely are the result of larger energy loss processes, such as deep inelastic reactions. • Comparison of Superdeformed Bands in 61Zn and 60Zn: Possible Evidence for T=0 Pairing
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - : American Physical Society. - 0556-2813. ; 60:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The yrast superdeformed band in Zn-61 has been established using Si-28(Ar-36, 2pn)Zn-61 and Ca-40(Si-29, 2 alpha)Zn-61 fusion-evaporation reactions. The excitation energy of this band was determined via two transitions that link this band to the normally deformed states. Lifetime analysis of this band resulted in a quadrupole moment of Q(t) = 3.0 +/- (0.5)(0.4)e b, which corresponds to a deformation of beta(2) = 0.50+/-(0.07)(0.06). A comparison of the J((2)) dynamical moments of inertia of the yrast superdeformed band in Zn-61 with those in Zn-60 shows a nearly complete blocking of the observed alignment in Zn-60, indicating that T=0 proton-neutron pair correlations may be present in Zn-60. • New Band Structures and an Unpaired Crossing in 78Kr
  • 1999
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - : American Physical Society. - 0556-2813. ; 59:2, s. 655-664
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-spin states in Kr-78 were studied using the Ni-58(Na-23,3p) reaction at 70 MeV and the Ni-58(Si-23,alpha 4p) reaction at 130 MeV. Prompt gamma-gamma coincidences were measured using the Pitt-FSU detector array and the GAMMASPHERE-MICROBALL array. Results from these experiments have led to 26 new excitation levels, some of which have been grouped into 3 new bands. Spins were assigned based on directional correlations of oriented nuclei. Two of the new negative-parity bands appear to form a signature-partner pair based on a two-quasineutron structure, in contrast to the previously known two-quasiproton negative-parity bands. A forking has been observed at the 24(+) state in the yrast band, which calculations suggest may result from an unpaired crossing. The available evidence suggests oblate shapes in the yrast band coexist with prolate shapes in the negative-parity bands. [S0556-2813(99)04602-6].

  • Evidence for the associated production of the Higgs boson and a top quark pair with the ATLAS detector
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - : American Physical Society. - 2470-0010 .- 2470-0029. ; 97:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A search for the associated production of the Higgs boson with a top quark pair (ttH) is reported. The search is performed in multilepton final states using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb-1 of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy s=13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. Higgs boson decays to WW∗, ττ, and ZZ∗ are targeted. Seven final states, categorized by the number and flavor of charged-lepton candidates, are examined for the presence of the Standard Model Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV and a pair of top quarks. An excess of events over the expected background from Standard Model processes is found with an observed significance of 4.1 standard deviations, compared to an expectation of 2.8 standard deviations. The best fit for the ttH production cross section is σ(ttH)=790-210+230 fb, in agreement with the Standard Model prediction of 507-50+35 fb. The combination of this result with other ttH searches from the ATLAS experiment using the Higgs boson decay modes to bb, γγ and ZZ∗→4, has an observed significance of 4.2 standard deviations, compared to an expectation of 3.8 standard deviations. This provides evidence for the ttH production mode. © 2018 CERN, for the ATLAS Collaboration. • Measurement of differential J/psi production cross sections and forward-backward ratios in p plus Pb collisions with the ATLAS detector
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - : American Physical Society. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 92:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Measurements of differential cross sections for J/psi production in p + Pb collisions at root S-NN= 5.02 TeV at the CERN Large Hadron Collider with the ATLAS detector are presented. The data set used corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 28.1 nb(-1). The J/psi mesons are reconstructed in the dimuon decay channel over the transverse momentum range 8 < PT < 30 GeV and over the center-of-mass rapidity range -2.87 < y* < 1.94. Prompt J/psi are separated from J/psi resulting from b-hadron decays through an analysis of the distance between the J/psi decay vertex and the event primary vertex. The differential cross section for production of nonprompt J/psi is compared to a FONLL calculation that does not include nuclear effects. Forward-backward production ratios are presented and compared to theoretical predictions. These results complement previously published results by covering a region of higher transverse momentum and more central rapidity. They thus constrain the kinematic dependence of nuclear modifications of charmonium and b-quark production in p + Pb collisions.

  • Measurement of event-plane correlations in root s(NN)=2.76 TeV lead-lead collisions with the ATLAS detector
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Physical Review C (Nuclear Physics). - : American Physical Society. - 0556-2813 .- 1089-490X. ; 90:2
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A measurement of event-plane correlations involving two or three event planes of different order is presented as a function of centrality for 7 mu b(-1) Pb + Pb collision data at v root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV, recorded by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. Fourteen correlators are measured using a standard event-plane method and a scalar-product method, and the latter method is found to give a systematically larger correlation signal. Several different trends in the centrality dependence of these correlators are observed. These trends are not reproduced by predictions based on the Glauber model, which includes only the correlations from the collision geometry in the initial state. Calculations that include the final-state collective dynamics are able to describe qualitatively, and in some cases also quantitatively, the centrality dependence of the measured correlators. These observations suggest that both the fluctuations in the initial geometry and the nonlinear mixing between different harmonics in the final state are important for creating these correlations in momentum space.
