  • Improving Well-Being in Schools - Lessons Learned from IoT Experts
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - Amsterdam : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 302, s. 666-670, s. 666-670
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Internet of Things (IoT) is a source of knowledge about the surrounding environment and people in such an environment. The insights collected by IoT can provide the knowledge needed to improve people’s health and overall well-being. Schools are one environment where IoT is scarcely applied, yet, it is expected that this is where children and teenagers spend most of their time. Drawing on previous findings, this paper presents preliminary results from qualitative inquiry investigating how and what IoT-based solutions could support health and well-being in elementary educational settings.

  • Virtual TeleRehab : A case study
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. - 9781607508052 ; 169, s. 676-80
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We examined the efficacy of a remotely based occupational therapy intervention. A 40-year-old woman who suffered a stroke participated in a telerehabilitation program. The intervention method is based on virtual reality gaming to enhance the training experience and to facilitate the relearning processes. The results indicate that Virtual TeleRehab is an effective method for motivational, economical, and practical reasons by combining game-based rehabilitation in the home with weekly distance meetings. © 2011 European Federation for Medical Informatics. • Why and When Physicians Google : Resident Physicians' Information-Seeking Strategies During Patient Consultations
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 305, s. 580-583
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Physicians depend on access to accurate, up-to-date information and knowledge to make decisions and carry out their work. Today, access to online medical information has become easier than ever before. There is a stream of research interested in understanding how online health information intervenes and influences the patient-physician relationship. While many studies have focused on patients' online health information seeking, fewer studies have addressed how physicians seek and use online medical information. In this qualitative study, focus groups using clinical scenarios were conducted to examine why and when resident physicians turn to search engines like Google for medical information seeking at the point of care. The paper provides insights in physicians' perceptions and experiences of using digital tools for information seeking during patient consultations. Specifically, we identify and discuss information-seeking strategies of physicians during the patient consultation, contributing crucial knowledge for improving the quality of healthcare and patient outcomes.

  • Eliciting parents' individual requirements for an inclusive digital school system
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Universal Design 2016: Learning from the Past, Designing for the Future - Proceedings of the 3rd International Conference on Universal Design, UD 2016. - 1879-8365 .- 0926-9630. - 9781614996835 ; 229, s. 211-221
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Parents often have a busy time sorting out their life puzzles, including getting information about their children's activities in school. More and more communication between teachers and parents take place via digital school systems. It can be hard for parents to find the information they are looking for and the teacher decides when information is sent and what communication method to use. All parents, but especially parents with disabilities, might have individual preferences on how to receive information and how to adapt meetings at school. In this paper we present a project where we involved parents and teachers in focus groups, an idea workshop and iterative user trials of a digital prototype. The goal was to elicit parents' individual requirements for an inclusive digital school system, where they can store their individual preferences about how and when to receive information from school and what requirements they have on meetings at school. Preliminary results show that we managed to create open and focused discussions among parents and teachers. The parents reacted very positively on an onboarding page with the possibility to quickly and easily enter preferences after their first log in, but more work needs to be done on how preferences are categorized on the onboarding page. Finally, parents need to get clear feedback from teachers and school when they have entered or updated preferences, so they can trust that their preferences will be met.

  • Patients' Experiences of Demanded Access to Online Health Records
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 310, s. 1424-1425
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Patient-Accessible Electronic Health Records (PAEHR) is particularly controversial in mental healthcare. We aim to explore if there is any association between patients with mental health conditions and the experience of someone demanding access to their PAEHR. A chi-square test showed a significant association between group belonging and experiences of someone demanding access to the PAEHR.

  • Face validity of VIS-Ed : A visualization program for teaching medical students and residents the biomechanics of cervical spine trauma
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Medicine Meets Virtual Reality 20. - : IOS Press. - 9781614992080 ; 184, s. 96-102
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This RCT study aimed to investigate if VIS-Ed (Visualization through Imaging and Simulation - Education) had the potential to improve medical student education and specialist training in clinical diagnosis and treatment of trauma patients. The participants' general opinion was reported as high in both groups (lecture vs. virtual patient (VP)). Face validity of the VIS-Ed for cervical spine trauma was demonstrated and the VP group reported higher stimulation and engagement compared to the lecture group. No significant difference in the knowledge test between both groups could be observed, confirming our null hypothesis that VIS-Ed was on par with a lecture.

  • From Face-to-Face to Online UDeL Camps : Supporting Staff at Higher Education Institutions in Developing Universal Design for eLearning (UDeL)
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Universal Design 2021 : From Special to Mainstream Solutions - From Special to Mainstream Solutions. - 1879-8365 .- 0926-9630. - 9781643681900 ; 282, s. 144-160
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The TINEL Project is running a series of camps for staff at higher education institution to support them in developing inclusive eLearning. The first camp was conducted face-to-face, but the coronavirus pandemic meant that the second camp was conducted online. This created a case study in inclusive eLearning in itself and allowed us to experience and reflect on the challenges and opportunities of inclusive online teaching and learning. This paper presents the structure and content of the two camps, our reflections on moving from a face-to-face to an online situation and our elaboration how the UDL principles apply to eLearning to create Universal Design for eLearning (UDeL). We found that because we already had a syllabus for the camp prepared, transferring it to an online camp did not present a great number of challenges. Some aspects of the online situation were actually advantageous (e.g. presenting all materials digitally and making them fully accessible) while others were difficult to overcome (e.g. engaging all participants in online activities and discussions). We provide a set of recommendations of how to implement the three principles of UDL in eLearning situations.
