  • Feasibility and Acceptability of Smart Augmented Reality Assisting Patients with Medication Pillbox Self-Management
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 264, s. 521-525
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Complex prescribed medicine regimens require extensive self-management. Handling multiple pills can be confusing; using a pillbox organiser is a common strategy. A smart Medication Coach Intelligent Agent (MCIA) can support patients in handling medicine. The aim of this research was to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of the MCIA. A prototype was tested with 15 participants, age 17-76, filled a pillbox according to prescription assisted by the MCIA implemented in a Microsoft HoloLens. A quantitative method using questionnaires was applied. Results showed that using the MCIA implemented in an AR-headset, to assist people with prescribed polypharmacy regimen in filling a pillbox, was feasible and acceptable. There was a difference related to age regarding people's willingness to use an AR-headset for medication self-management. People older than 65 felt less comfortable using the technology and were also more hesitant to use the technology than those under 65.

  • Mixed Virtual Reality Simulation -Taking Endoscopic Simulation One Step Further
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Medicine Meets Virtual Reality 18. - : IOS Press. - 9781607507062 - 9781607507055 ; 163, s. 144-6
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This pilot study aimed to assess medical students' appraisals of a "mixed" virtual reality simulation for endoscopic surgery (with a virtual patient case in addition to a virtual colonoscopy) as well as the impact of this simulation set-up on students' performance. Findings indicate that virtual patients can enhance contextualization of simulated endoscopy and thus facilitate an authentic learning environment, which is important in order to increase motivation.

  • Mobile guidelines for pharmacologic treatment of hypertension
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 103, s. 58-60
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Mobile health technologies provide case studies with potentially rather huge impacts. Examples are provided e.g. by guidelines involving pharmacologic treatment. Knowledge and reasoning need to interact with information management, and often involves utility of various devices. Well organised databases for pharmacological information are also necessary for successful engineering of mobile extensions in these case studies.

  • A method for co-designing theory-based behaviour change systems for health promotion
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - Amsterdam : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 235, s. 368-372
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A methodology was defined and developed for designing theory-based behaviour change systems for health promotion that can be tailored to the individual. Theories from two research fields were combined with a participatory action research methodology. Two case studies applying the methodology were conducted. During and between group sessions the participants created material and designs following the behaviour change strategy themes, which were discussed, analysed and transformed into a design of a behaviour change system. Theories in behavioural change and persuasive technology guided the data collection, data analyses, and the design of a behaviour change system. The methodology has strong emphasis on the target group's participation in the design process. The different aspects brought forward related to behaviour change strategies defined in literature on persuasive technology, and the dynamics of these are associated to needs and motivation defined in literature on behaviour change. It was concluded that the methodology aids the integration of theories into a participatory action research design process, and aids the analyses and motivations of design choices.

  • Exploring Limitations of User Interface Design to Understanding the Gap Between Technology and Seniors
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 281, s. 931-935
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Participating in social activities promotes healthy ageing, whereas loneliness and isolation are known to cause adverse effects on both physical and mental wellbeing. Technology that exists in society today can facilitate healthy ageing. However, a gap can be seen between seniors and technology in today's internet and communication technological device's user interfaces. Due to limited prior knowledge of interacting with touch screen devices, seniors sometimes have difficulties using them. This research aims to explore the user interfaces and their elements designed using a human-centered design methodology by involving seniors as activate participants in the design process. This work's outcome can improve current user interface design practices in touch screen devices, which might be seen as contributing step to understand the gap between seniors and technology.

  • A one-step approach to data retrieval, analysis,and documentation
  • 2002
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 90, s. 320-324
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we propose a system architecture to support data retrieval from patient records, together with data analysis, and report generation. Moving from retrieval all the way to documentation should be done as in a pipeline, and computer support must minimize manual steps in this knowledge refinement scenario. A case study is drawn from urology for surgery on patients with lower urinary tract symptoms.

  • Data mining and structuring of executable dataanalysis reports: Guideline development and implementation in a narrowsense
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 77, s. 790-794
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper we present a data mining scenario that supports development of automated web-based documentation of data analysis for diagnosis and treatment The documents can be seen as guidelines in a narrow sense, and are designed to include executable modules for the corresponding decision support systems. Our aim is to discuss the possibilities of identifying certain types of diagnoses and treatments for which guidelines can be generated and computerised more systematically.

  • Personalised Care Plan Management Utilizing Guideline-Driven Clinical Decision Support Systems
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Studies in Health Technology and Informatics. - : European Federation for Medical Informatics (EFMI) and IOS Press. - 0926-9630 .- 1879-8365. ; 247, s. 750-754
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Older age is associated with an increased accumulation of multiple chronic conditions. The clinical management of patients suffering from multiple chronic conditions is very complex, disconnected and time-consuming with the traditional care settings. Integrated care is a means to address the growing demand for improved patient experience and health outcomes of multimorbid and long-term care patients. Care planning is a prevalent approach of integrated care, where the aim is to deliver more personalized and targeted care creating shared care plans by clearly articulating the role of each provider and patient in the care process. In this paper, we present a method and corresponding implementation of a semi-automatic care plan management tool, integrated with clinical decision support services which can seamlessly access and assess the electronic health records (EHRs) of the patient in comparison with evidence based clinical guidelines to suggest personalized recommendations for goals and interventions to be added to the individualized care plans.
