  • MHV, CSW and BCFW : field theory structures in string theory amplitudes
  • 2008
  • In: Journal of High Energy Physics (JHEP). - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1126-6708 .- 1029-8479. ; 11:015, s. 1-59
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Motivated by recent progress in calculating field theory amplitudes, we study applications of the basic ideas in these developments to the calculation of amplitudes in string theory. We consider in particular both non-Abelian and Abelian open superstring disk amplitudes in a flat space background, focusing mainly on the four-dimensional case. The basic field theory ideas under consideration split into three separate categories. In the first, we argue that the calculation of α'-corrections to MHV open string disk amplitudes reduces to the determination of certain classes of polynomials. This line of reasoning is then used to determine the α'3-correction to the MHV amplitude for all multiplicities. A second line of attack concerns the existence of an analog of CSW rules derived from the Abelian Dirac-Born-Infeld action in four dimensions. We show explicitly that the CSW-like perturbation series of this action is surprisingly trivial: only helicity conserving amplitudes are non-zero. Last but not least, we initiate the study of BCFW on-shell recursion relations in string theory. These should appear very naturally as the UV properties of the string theory are excellent. We show that all open four-point string amplitudes in a flat background at the disk level obey BCFW recursion relations. Based on the naturalness of the proof and some explicit results for the five-point gluon amplitude, it is expected that this pattern persists for all higher point amplitudes and for the closed string.

  • Combination of inclusive and differential (Formula Presented) charge asymmetry measurements using ATLAS and CMS data at (Formula Presented)= 7 and 8 TeV
  • 2018
  • In: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2018:4
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper presents combinations of inclusive and differential measurements of the charge asymmetry (AC) in top quark pair (tt) events with a lepton+jets signature by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations, using data from LHC proton-proton collisions at centreof- mass energies of 7 and 8TeV. The data correspond to integrated luminosities of about 5 and 20 fb–1for each experiment, respectively. The resulting combined LHC measurements of the inclusive charge asymmetry are AC LHC7= 0:005±0:007 (stat) ±0:006 (syst) at 7TeV and AC LHC7= 0:0055 ± 0:0023 (stat) ± 0:0025 (syst) at 8TeV. These values, as well as the combination of AC measurements as a function of the invariant mass of the [formula presented] system at 8TeV, are consistent with the respective standard model predictions. © CERN, for the benefit of the ATLAS-CMS Collaboration.

  • Combinations of single-top-quark production cross-section measurements and |f LV Vtb| determinations at √s = 7 and 8 TeV with the ATLAS and CMS experiments
  • 2019
  • In: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2019:5
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • This paper presents the combinations of single-top-quark production cross-section measurements by the ATLAS and CMS Collaborations, using data from LHC proton-proton collisions at s = 7 and 8 TeV corresponding to integrated luminosities of 1.17 to 5.1 fb−1 at s = 7 TeV and 12.2 to 20.3 fb−1 at s = 8 TeV. These combinations are performed per centre-of-mass energy and for each production mode: t-channel, tW, and s-channel. The combined t-channel cross-sections are 67.5 ± 5.7 pb and 87.7 ± 5.8 pb at s = 7 and 8 TeV respectively. The combined tW cross-sections are 16.3 ± 4.1 pb and 23.1 ± 3.6 pb at s = 7 and 8 TeV respectively. For the s-channel cross-section, the combination yields 4.9 ± 1.4 pb at s = 8 TeV. The square of the magnitude of the CKM matrix element Vtb multiplied by a form factor fLV is determined for each production mode and centre-of-mass energy, using the ratio of the measured cross-section to its theoretical prediction. It is assumed that the top-quark-related CKM matrix elements obey the relation |Vtd|, |Vts| ≪ |Vtb|. All the |fLVVtb|2 determinations, extracted from individual ratios at s = 7 and 8 TeV, are combined, resulting in |fLVVtb| = 1.02 ± 0.04 (meas.) ± 0.02 (theo.). All combined measurements are consistent with their corresponding Standard Model predictions.[Figure not available: see fulltext.]. © 2019, The Author(s).

  • Constraints on mediator-based dark matter and scalar dark energy models using √s = 13 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector
  • 2019
  • In: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2019:5
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Constraints on selected mediator-based dark matter models and a scalar dark energy model using up to 37 fb−1s = 13 TeV pp collision data collected by the ATLAS detector at the LHC during 2015-2016 are summarised in this paper. The results of experimental searches in a variety of final states are interpreted in terms of a set of spin-1 and spin-0 single-mediator dark matter simplified models and a second set of models involving an extended Higgs sector plus an additional vector or pseudo-scalar mediator. The searches considered in this paper constrain spin-1 leptophobic and leptophilic mediators, spin-0 colour-neutral and colour-charged mediators and vector or pseudo-scalar mediators embedded in extended Higgs sector models. In this case, also s = 8 TeV pp collision data are used for the interpretation of the results. The results are also interpreted for the first time in terms of light scalar particles that could contribute to the accelerating expansion of the universe (dark energy).[Figure not available: see fulltext.]. © 2019, The Author(s).

  • Fluctuations of anisotropic flow in Pb+Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector
  • 2020
  • In: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2020:1
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Multi-particle azimuthal cumulants are measured as a function of centrality and transverse momentum using 470 μb−1 of Pb+Pb collisions at sNN = 5.02 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. These cumulants provide information on the event-by-event fluctuations of harmonic flow coefficients vn and correlated fluctuations between two harmonics vn and vm. For the first time, a non-zero four-particle cumulant is observed for dipolar flow, v1. The four-particle cumulants for elliptic flow, v2, and triangular flow, v3, exhibit a strong centrality dependence and change sign in ultra-central collisions. This sign change is consistent with significant non-Gaussian fluctuations in v2 and v3. The four-particle cumulant for quadrangular flow, v4, is found to change sign in mid-central collisions. Correlations between two harmonics are studied with three- and four-particle mixed-harmonic cumulants, which indicate an anti-correlation between v2 and v3, and a positive correlation between v2 and v4. These correlations decrease in strength towards central collisions and either approach zero or change sign in ultra-central collisions. To investigate the possible flow fluctuations arising from intrinsic centrality or volume fluctuations, the results are compared between two different event classes used for centrality definitions. In peripheral and mid-central collisions where the cumulant signals are large, only small differences are observed. In ultra-central collisions, the differences are much larger and transverse momentum dependent. These results provide new information to disentangle flow fluctuations from the initial and final states, as well as new insights on the influence of centrality fluctuations. • Measurement of the k t splitting scales in Z → ℓℓ events in pp collisions at √s=8 TeV with the ATLAS detector
  • 2017
  • In: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2017:8
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • A measurement of the splitting scales occuring in the kt jet-clustering algorithm is presented for final states containing a Z boson. The measurement is done using 20.2 fb−1 of proton-proton collision data collected at a centre-of-mass energy of s=8 TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in 2012. The measurement is based on chargedparticle track information, which is measured with excellent precision in the pT region relevant for the transition between the perturbative and the non-perturbative regimes. The data distributions are corrected for detector effects, and are found to deviate from state-of-the-art predictions in various regions of the observables.[Figure not available: see fulltext.]. © 2017, The Author(s).

  • Measurement of the relative width difference of the B0‐ B¯ 0 system with the ATLAS detector
  • 2016
  • In: Journal of High Energy Physics. - 1029-8479. ; 2016:6
  • Journal article (peer-reviewed)abstract
    • Abstract: This paper presents the measurement of the relative width difference ΔΓd/Γd of the B0‐ B¯ 0 system using the data collected by the ATLAS experiment at the LHC in pp collisions at s=7 TeV and s=8 TeV and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 25.2 fb−1. The value of ΔΓd/Γd is obtained by comparing the decay-time distributions of B0 → J/ψKS and B0 → J/ψK*0(892) decays. The result is ΔΓd/Γd = (−0.1±1.1 (stat.)± 0.9 (syst.)) × 10−2. Currently, this is the most precise single measurement of ΔΓd/Γd. It agrees with the Standard Model prediction and the measurements by other experiments.[Figure not available: see fulltext.] © 2016, The Author(s).
