- Arktiska spår: Natur och kultur är en mångvetenskaplig antologi om förändringsprocesser i världens mest nordliga delar. Samtidigt är det en rikt illustrerad, närmast bilddriven, publikation som ger fördjupning kring en utställning: Arktis - medan isen smälter (Nordiska museet 2019-20). I boken medverkar över fyrtio skribenter från olika fakulteter och även konstnärer och andra experter. De längre artiklarna har genomgått granskning av extern läsare, i samverkan med Journal of Northern Studies. Huvudteman som blir belysta ur olika ämnens perspektiv är Arktis som tid och rum, Isens dynamik (ur maringeologiskt djuptidsperspektiv) och historisk antropologi samt Arktis som resurslandskap. Nordiska museets och andra museers samlingar dras in i den mångvetenskapliga undersökningen av spår och rörelser, i ett antal korta essäer om föremål och arkivalier.

Konstnärer och forskare undersökte tillsammans hur tid och rum på och framför skärmen (i och utanför fiktionen) kan vävas ihop till en mer performativ rymd.Projektet undersökte hur man utvecklar ett interaktivt berättande inom film men också hur en betraktare – vars roll utökats till att bli en mer eller mindre ofrivillig deltagare – påverkas? Växelspelet är avgörande; filmens utgångspunkt är att provocera fram en nyfikenhet som i sin tur utmanar filmen till att ta till nya konstgrepp.

- This article examines a 5-year collaboration between the Stockholm-based video artists Performing Pictures and Talleres Comunitarios, a studio based in the Oaxacan town of Santa Ana Zegache where local artisans employ traditional skills in the restoration of religious artifacts. In images and text, we trace the exchange of skills, knowledge, and aesthetic sensibility that took place as these two groups of artists collaborated in producing a series of video animations of venerative objects, against a backdrop of religious, social, and political tensions that characterize everyday life in Zegache. In the article and the accompanying series of three short films, ‘‘Wonder & Veneration 13’’ (http://vimeo. com/album/2682070), we examine how the artists negotiate questions of aesthetics and religious belief as their collaboration unfolds within the context of the Zegache community, where the Talleres contribute skills of carpentry and painting, while Performing Pictures provides skills of film, animation and micro-electronics. The processes and practices involved in creating three works provides the framework for this examination: the first, an animation of the Virgin of Guadalupe as she appears to a simple peasant, and the second, produced 2 years later, an animation of Santa Ana, local patron saint and mother of Maria, as she teaches her daughter to read the scriptures. Whereas both figures are central to the syncretic religious belief of southern Mexico with its challenge to the entrenched authority of the hispanicized clergy, the local figure of Santa Ana carries even more complex meanings for the community of Zegache. These meanings are embodied in the third work we examine, a small solarpowered chapel that the artists built to display the Santa Ana animation. With the mayor’s support and located at the entrance to the town, the chapel embodies a shift of power away from the church, standing as an example of indigenous empowerment in civil society.

Assessing human exposure to phthalates, alternative plasticizers and organophosphate esters

- Phthalate esters (PEs) and organophosphate esters (OPEs) are common indoor pollutants frequently detected in environmental (dust, air), personal (hand wipes, diet) and human matrices (urine, serum etc.). In this thesis, mathematical models were used to establish links between intake and body burden for a comprehensive dataset based on a Norwegian study population. Also, the relative importance of different PE uptake pathways was assessed and discussed. Furthermore, the suitability of human nails as an alternative, non-invasive biomonitoring matrix for PEs was investigated. Additionally, information regarding alternative plasticizers to PEs was collected and presented extensively. Results showed that for PEs (paper II), daily intakes based on external exposure media agree with back-calculations using urinary metabolite concentrations, leading to the conclusion that human exposure for the general adult population is well understood and that the most important uptake routes were captured. Overall intake levels are comparable or lower than level presented in recent comprehensive studies and hazard quotients were well below 1 (low risk). As expected, diet was found to be the most important uptake route for all PEs. For lower molecular weight PEs, inhalation becomes a strong contributing pathway whereas for higher molecular weight PEs, dust ingestion was also important. Daily intake based on hand wipes was found to be much lower than the estimated total dermal intake based on air, dust and personal care products, questioning the relevance of hand wipes to represent total dermal exposure. Human nails were found to be unsuitable for replacing urine as a biomonitoring matrix for PEs as internal intake (from blood) cannot explain measured nail concentrations and uptake from air is too slow to reach observed concentrations within a realistic time frame (paper III). Hence, the kinetic links between intake and nail concentrations could not be established. Although exposure to traditional PEs is decreasing, use and body burden of some alternatives are increasing (paper I). Fortunately, most alternative plasticizers have favorable toxicological properties, resulting in low risk for humans. In contrast to PEs, OPEs still remain a group of poorly studied substances in terms of human exposure (paper IV). Due to lack of information regarding human metabolism, reliable links between intake and concentrations in serum and urine could not be established. Modelling results showed that concentrations in serum, and to some extent, urine, were underestimated for 2 compounds. It is likely that a combination of missing intake and suboptimal biomarkers were the cause for this under-prediction. Because of this, further studies regarding human metabolism should be performed for OPEs and potentially more specific biomarkers identified in the future. For PEs, there is a need for more comprehensive datasets to study exposure for high risk groups such as infants and children. Furthermore, dermal uptake remains poorly understood and the uptake of PEs into human nails should be studied in more detail to establish the kinetic links between exposure and body burden.

- Dans ce volume sont présentés des genres musicaux et poé- tiques qui reflètent la culture chrétienne du Haut Moyen Âge. Â la suite de la renaissance carolingienne ces chants ont été copiés et notés dans un grand nombre de manuscrits. C’est ainsi qu’ils nous sont parvenus et que nous possédons des témoignages inestimables de la création littéraire et musicale au sein de la liturgie au cours des siècles. Le répertoire grégorien est encore chanté de nos jours, non sans avoir subi quelques avatars. Les tropes et prosules, dont l’usage a été limité au Moyen Âge nous seraient inconnus si nous n’avions pas ces documents écrits. Ces textes ont pu être notés parce qu’ils appartenaient à une culture ecclésiastique, très peu de textes profanes ayant été notés avant 1200. Les sources, très nom- breuses en dépit des pertes occasionnées par diverses circonstances historiques, sont restées cachées et même souvent oubliées jusqu’à nos jours. Leur témoignage, quoique répondant à des règles de composition codifiées parce que réservées à une fonction détermi- née, est précieux. Cependant il ne faut pas oublier que cet usage liturgique ne représente qu’une toute petite partie des pratiques musicales médiévales, dont il ne peut pas en tout cas être tenu pour complètement étranger. C’est ce dont témoignent les quelques exemples de musique profane qui sont joints à ce volume. Comme il s’agit de littérature et de musique, ce livre est partagé entre deux auteurs, Marie-Noël Colette a écrit les chapitres 1, 2, 4, et 9, Gu- nilla Iversen les chapitres 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, et 12.
