  • Rare Earth Ions Adsorption onto Graphene Oxide Nanosheets
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Solvent extraction and ion exchange. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0736-6299 .- 1532-2262. ; 35:2, s. 91-103
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Graphene oxide (GO) was synthesized and used as a coagulant of rare earth elements (REEs) from aqueous solution. Stability and adsorption capacities were exhibited for target REEs such as La(III), Nd(III), Gd(III), and Y(III). The parameters influencing the adsorption capacity of the target species including contact time, pH, initial concentration, and temperature were optimized. The adsorption kinetics and thermodynamics were studied. The method showed quantitative recovery (99%) upon desorption using HNO3 acid (0.1 M) after a short contact time (15 min).

  • Identification of Potential SARS-CoV-2 Main Protease and Spike Protein Inhibitors from the Genus Aloe: An In Silico Study for Drug Development
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Molecules. - : MDPI AG. - 1420-3049. ; 26:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) disease is a global rapidly spreading virus showing very high rates of complications and mortality. Till now, there is no effective specific treatment for the disease. Aloe is a rich source of isolated phytoconstituents that have an enormous range of biological activities. Since there are no available experimental techniques to examine these compounds for antiviral activity against SARS-CoV-2, we employed an in silico approach involving molecular docking, dynamics simulation, and binding free energy calculation using SARS-CoV-2 essential proteins as main protease and spike protein to identify lead compounds from Aloe that may help in novel drug discovery. Results retrieved from docking and molecular dynamics simulation suggested a number of promising inhibitors from Aloe. Root mean square deviation (RMSD) and root mean square fluctuation (RMSF) calculations indicated that compounds 132, 134, and 159 were the best scoring compounds against main protease, while compounds 115, 120, and 131 were the best scoring ones against spike glycoprotein. Compounds 120 and 131 were able to achieve significant stability and binding free energies during molecular dynamics simulation. In addition, the highest scoring compounds were investigated for their pharmacokinetic properties and drug-likeness. The Aloe compounds are promising active phytoconstituents for drug development for SARS-CoV-2.

  • Towards implementing hierarchical porous zeolitic imidazolate frameworks in dye-sensitized solar cells
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Royal Society Open Science. - : Royal Society Publishing. - 2054-5703. ; 6:7
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A one-pot method for encapsulation of dye, which can be applied for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs), and synthesis of hierarchical porous zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF-8), is reported. The size of the encapsulated dye tunes the mesoporosity and surface area of ZIF-8. The mesopore size, Langmuir surface area and pore volume are 15 nm, 960-1500 m(2). g(-1) and 0.36-0.61 cm(3). g(-1), respectively. After encapsulation into ZIF-8, the dyes show longer emission lifetimes (greater than 4-8-fold) as compared to the corresponding non-encapsulated dyes, due to suppression of aggregation, and torsional motions.

  • Magnetic metal-organic frameworks for efficient removal of cadmium(II), and lead(II) from aqueous solution
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering. - : Elsevier BV. - 2213-2929 .- 2213-3437. ; 10:3
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Efficient and convenient methods for the removal of toxic heavy metal ions especially Cd(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous solutions is of great importance due to their serious threat to public health and the ecological system. In this study, two magnetic metal-organic frameworks (namely: Fe3O4@ZIF-8, and Fe3O4@UiO-66–NH2) were synthesized, fully characterized, and applied for the adsorption of Cd(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous solutions. The adsorption efficiencies for the prepared nanocomposites are strongly dependent on the pH of the aqueous solution. The maximum adsorption capacities of Fe3O4@UiO-66–NH2, and Fe3O4@ZIF-8 at pH 6.0 were calculated to be 714.3 mg·g−, and 370 mg·g−1 for Cd(II), respectively, and 833.3 mg·g−1, and 666.7 mg·g−1 for Pb(II), respectively. The adsorption process follows a pseudo-second-order model and fit the Langmuir isotherm model. Moreover, the thermodynamic studies revealed that the adsorption process is endothermic, and spontaneous in nature. A plausible adsorption mechanism was discussed in detail. The magnetic adsorbents: Fe3O4@ZIF-8, and Fe3O4@UiO-66–NH2 showed excellent reusability, maintaining the same efficiency for at least four consecutive cycles. These results reveal the potential use of magnetic Fe3O4@ZIF-8, and Fe3O4@UiO-66–NH2 as efficient adsorbents in removing Cd(II) and Pb(II) from aqueous solutions.

  • Mesoporous Ruthenium Oxide : A Heterogeneous Catalyst for Water Oxidation
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: ACS Sustainable Chemistry and Engineering. - : American Chemical Society (ACS). - 2168-0485. ; 5:11, s. 9651-9656
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Herein we report the synthesis of mesoporous ruthenium oxide (MP-RuO2) using a template-based approach. The catalytic efficiency of the prepared MP-RuO2 was compared to commercially available ruthenium oxide nanoparticles (C-RuO2) as heterogeneous catalysts for water oxidation. The results demonstrated superior performance of MP-RuO2 for oxygen evolution compared to the C-RuO2 with respect to recyclability, amount of generated oxygen, and stability over several catalytic runs.

  • Structural, Spectroscopic, and Electrochemical Characterization of Semi-Conducting, Solvated [Pt(NH 3 ) 4 ](TCNQ) 2 ·(DMF) 2 and Non-Solvated [Pt(NH 3 ) 4 ](TCNQ) 2
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Australian Journal of Chemistry. - 1445-0038 .- 0004-9425. ; 70:9, s. 997-1005
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The demand for catalysts that are highly active and stable for electron-transfer reactions has been boosted by the discovery that [Pt(NH3)4](TCNQF4)2 (TCNQF4≤2,3,5,6-tetrafluoro-7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane) is an efficient catalyst. In this work, we prepare and characterize the two related [Pt(NH3)4] 2+ complexes, [Pt(NH3)4](TCNQ)2·(DMF)2 (1) and [Pt(NH3)4] (TCNQ)2 (2). Reaction of [Pt(NH3)4](NO3)2 with LiTCNQ in a mixed solvent (methanol/dimethylformamide, 4:1v/v) gives [Pt(NH3)4] (TCNQ)2·(DMF)2 (1), whereas the same reaction in water affords [Pt(NH3)4](TCNQ)2 (2). 2 has been previously reported. Both 1 and 2 have now been characterized by single-crystal X-ray crystallography, Fourier-transform (FT)IR, Raman and UV-vis spectroscopy, and electrochemistry. Structurally, in 1, the TCNQ1-anions form infinite stacks with a separation between adjacent anions within the stack alternating between 3.12 and 3.42Å. The solvated structure 1 differs from the non-solvated form 2 in that pairs of TCNQ1-anions are clearly displaced from each other. The conductivities of pressed pellets of 1 and 2 are both in the semi-conducting range at room temperature. 2 can be electrochemically synthesized by reduction of a TCNQ-modified electrode in contact with an aqueous solution of [Pt(NH3)4] (NO3)2 via a nucleation growth mechanism. Interestingly, we discovered that 1 and 2 are not catalysts for the ferricyanide and thiosulfate reaction. Li+ and tetraalkylammonium salts of TCNQ1-/2-and TCNQF41-/2-were tested for potential catalytic activity towards ferricyanide and thiosulfate. Only TCNQF41-/2-salts were active, suggesting that the dianion redox level needs to be accessible for efficient catalytic activity and explaining why 1 and 2 are not good catalysts. Importantly, the origin of the catalytic activity of the highly active [Pt(NH3)4](TCNQF4)2 catalyst is now understood, enabling other families of catalysts to be developed for important electron-transfer reactions.

  • Hierarchical porous zeolitic imidazolate framework nanoparticles for efficient adsorption of rare-earth elements
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Microporous and Mesoporous Materials. - : Elsevier. - 1387-1811 .- 1873-3093. ; 278, s. 175-184
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hierarchical porous zeolitic imidazolate frameworks nanoparticles (ZIF-8 NPs) were synthesized at room temperature via a template-free approach under dynamic conditions (stirring) using water as a solvent. The ZIF-8 NPs were evaluated as adsorbents for rare earth elements (La3+, Sm3+ and Dy3+). Adsorption equilibrium was reached after 7h and high adsorption capacities were obtained for dysprosium and samarium (430.4 and 281.1 mg g(-1), respectively) and moderate adsorption capacity for lanthanum (28.8 mg g(-1)) at a pH of 7.0. The high adsorption capacitiese, as well as the high stability of ZIF-8 NPs, make the hierarchical ZIF-8 materials as an efficient adsorbent for the recovery of La3+, Sm3+ and Dy3+ from aqueous solution.

  • Self-cleaned photoluminescent viscose fabric incorporated lanthanide-organic framework (Ln-MOF)
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Dyes and pigments. - : Elsevier BV. - 0143-7208 .- 1873-3743. ; 159, s. 491-498
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Photoluminescent textiles emitted light in ultraviolet (UV)-radiation region has advanced a variety of applications including military and police clothes. The current study reports the preparation of photoluminescent viscose fabrics incorporated lanthanide metal-organic framework (Ln-MOF) and their applications for self-cleaning. In situ growth of Ln (Eu3+, Tb3+) MOF into viscose fabrics were achieved using Ln (NO3)(3) and 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylic dianhydride as organic ligand. The in-growth Ln-MOF within fabrics were characterized using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscope, energy dispersive X-ray, and fluorescence spectroscopy. Under the UV lamb (345 nm), Eu-MOF@viscose fabric and Tb-MOF@viscose fabric visually emitted red and green color, respectively. The excitation-emission spectra showed the spectra for the D-5(0)-> F-7(0.4) transitions and D-5(4)-> F-7(5) transitions in case of Eu-MOF and Tb-MOF@viscose fabrics, respectively. The photoluminescent properties of Ln-MOF@viscose fabrics were enhanced after reactive dying process. The self-cleaning functions of Ln-MOF@viscose fabrics were estimated through studying the photo-degradation of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye over the fabrics. After 120 min irradiation time, the photo-degradation of RhB dye was 85-97%, indicating high performance of Ln-MOF@viscose fabric. The materials are promising for advanced applications including protective clothing, textile-based sensors, smart tagging and tickets.

  • Synthesis, Chemistry and Utilities of Diaminoazoles with Special Reference to 3,5-Diaminopyrazoles
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Current Organic Synthesis. - : BENTHAM SCIENCE PUBL LTD. - 1570-1794 .- 1875-6271. ; 15:4, s. 487-514
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Although the chemistry of heteroaromatic monoamino azoles has been surveyed more than once in the last decade, the chemistry of the di- and triaminoazoles has not been reviewed. In this article we will survey the synthesis, chemistry and utility of the diaminoazoles. In this review, the chemistry of the diaminoazoles as well as their most important utilities will be surveyed. Objective: The review focuses on recent progress in diaminoazoles (i.e. diaminopyrazoles, diaminoimidazoles, diaminotriazoles and diaminothiazole) with especial references to diaminopyrazoles. The synthesis as well as pharmaceutical utilities are reported. There are several methods for synthesis of diaminopyrazoles. 3,5-Diaminopyrazole and its derivatives are prepared through the reaction of malononitrile or arylhydrazononitrile with hydrazine derivatives. 3,4-Diaminopyrazoles are prepared via nitration of 3-aminopyrazole with subsequent reduction of the produced compound. The diaminopyrazoles have several applications in cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries. They also have useful utilities as a constituent in oxidative hair dyes. Conclusion: We managed to report the common methods for the synthesis of diaminoazoles with especial reference to aminopyrazoles that are prepared through the reaction of malononitrile or hydrazononitriles with hydrazine derivatives. Some important applications that include pharmaceutical utilities such as hair dye constituents are reported.
