  • The role of occupants in buildings’ energy performance gap: Myth or reality?
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Sustainability. - : MDPI AG. - 2071-1050. ; 13:6
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Buildings’ expected (projected, simulated) energy use frequently does not match actual observations. This is commonly referred to as the energy performance gap. As such, many factors can contribute to the disagreement between expectations and observations. These include, for in-stance, uncertainty about buildings’ geometry, construction, systems, and weather conditions. However, the role of occupants in the energy performance gap has recently attracted much atten-tion. It has even been suggested that occupants are the main cause of the energy performance gap. This, in turn, has led to suggestions that better models of occupant behavior can reduce the energy performance gap. The present effort aims at the review and evaluation of the evidence for such claims. To this end, a systematic literature search was conducted and relevant publications were identified and reviewed in detail. The review entailed the categorization of the studies according to the scope and strength of the evidence for occupants’ role in the energy performance gap. Moreover, deployed calculation and monitoring methods, normalization procedures, and reported causes and magnitudes of the energy performance gap were documented and evaluated. The results suggest that the role of occupants as significant or exclusive contributors to the energy performance gap is not sufficiently substantiated by evidence.

  • 2D Extended envelope memory polynomial model for concurrent dual-band RF transmitters
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: International journal of microwave and wireless technologies. - : Cambridge University Press. - 1759-0795 .- 1759-0787. ; 9:8, s. 1619-1627
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The paper presents a 2D extended envelope memory polynomial (2D-EEMP) model for concurrent dual-band radio frequency (RF) power amplifiers (PAs). The model is derived based on the physical knowledge of a dual-band RF PA. The derived model contains cross-modulation terms not included in previously published models; these terms are found to be of importance for both behavioral modeling and digital pre-distortion (DPD). The performance of the derived model is evaluated both as the behavioral model and DPD, and the performance is compared with state-of-the-art2D-DPD and dual-band generalized memory polynomial (DB-GMP) models. Experimental result shows that the proposed model resulted in normalized mean square error (NMSE) of -51.7/-51.6dB and adjacent channel error power ratio (ACEPR) of -63.1/-63.4 dB, for channel 1/2, whereas the 2D-DPD resulted in the largest model error and DB-GMP resulted in model parameters that are 3 times more than those resulted with the proposed model with the same performance. As pre-distorter, the proposed model resulted in adjacent channel power ratio (ACPR) of -55.8/ -54.6 dB for channel 1/2 and is 7-10 dB lower than those resulted with the 2D-DPD model and2-4 dB lower compared to the DB-GMP model.

  • Design and performance analysis of 3.4 ghz rectangular microstrip patch antenna for wireless communication systems
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: International Journal on Communications Antenna and Propagation. - : Praise Worthy Prize. - 2039-5086 .- 2039-5094. ; 7:1, s. 80-86
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Wireless communication provides low-cost, high-speed and flexible communication in present days. Hence antenna plays a vital role in the wireless communication sector. The main concern of this paper is therefore to design a 3.4 GHz rectangular Microstrip patch antenna. Moreover, the feed probe based rectangular patch antenna will be designed. The performance of the designed rectangular patch antenna will be evaluated by analysing the major parameters of the simulation results. Hence the radiation pattern, gain, impedance matching and reflection coefficient or return loss calculation will be executed by the HFSS software to evaluate the performance of the antenna.

  • Design of a thin film double junction photovoltaic cell and performance analysis by software simulation
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: 2009 IEEE Electrical Power and Energy Conference, EPEC 2009; Montreal, QC; Canada; 22 October 2009 through 23 October 2009. - 9781424445080
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The use of distributed energy resources is increasingly being pursued as a supplement and alternative to larger conventional central power stations. Nowadays solar energy becomes an important alternative source of energy since it is highly reliable and has no environmental impact. Photovoltaic (PV) technology converts the solar or light energy into electrical energy and has no moving parts, no consumption of conventional fossil fuels and lasting for many years with very little maintenance. This paper described the design process of a thin film double junction photovoltaic Cell. Multi junction solar cell has the advantage to use the different wavelength in converting to electric energy. In this case, short circuit current increases dramatically. Here the designed double junction cell has the short circuit current density, Jsc is 46.1mA/cm2 and the performance of the cell is simulated via PC1D software and the efficiency of the solar cell is 28.6% found.

  • A Novel Kite-Shaped Chipless RFID Tag for Low-Profile Applications
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: IETE Journal of Research. - : Informa UK Limited. - 0377-2063 .- 0974-780X. ; , s. 1-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper a novel, compact 10-bit chipless radio frequency identification (RFID) tag with stable readable characteristics is proposed. The tag is composed of several concentric novel kite-shaped loop resonators. The desired data sequence is obtained by the insertion or removal of nested elements, offering a 1:1 data bit to resonance correspondence. Each data sequence is encoded in the spectral domain of the tag. The proposed tag shows operability at different polarizations and incident angles of the impinging electromagnetic waves. Operating within the ultra-wideband (UWB), the tag is realized on the Roger RT/duroid® 5880 substrate having physical dimensions of 13.55 × 13.55 mm2. The measurement results of the design reveal a high code density and spectral efficiency of 5.44 bits/cm2 and 2 bits/GHz, respectively. The compact and robust passive chipless RFID tag having scalable data storage potential can be deployed in numerous low-profile applications such as those of wearable and healthcare.
