Automatic in-line inspection of shape based on photogrammetry

- We are describing a fully automatic in-line shape inspection system for controlling the shape of moving objects on a conveyor belt. The shapes of the objects are measured using a full-field optical shape measurement method based on photogrammetry. The photogrammetry system consists of four cameras, a flash, and a triggering device. When an object to be measured arrives at a given position relative to the system, the flash and cameras are synchronously triggered to capture images of the moving object.From the captured images a point-cloud representing the measured shape is created. The point-cloud is then aligned to a CAD-model, which defines the nominal shape of the measured object, using a best-fit method and a feature-based alignment method. Deviations between the point-cloud and the CAD-model are computed giving the output of the inspection process. The computational time to create a point-cloud from the captured images is about 30 seconds and the computational time for the comparison with the CAD-model is about ten milliseconds. We report on recent progress with the shape inspection system.

- The EN 50399 cable test is used for classification of cables within the European construction products regulation. Means to predict a cables performance in this test, based on material data and small scale test results is of great value for the development of new cable materials. A first step in developing a prediction tool should be to understand the heat exposure on the cables in the EN 50399 test apparatus. The heat load in e.g. the cone calorimeter is very well characterized whereas for EN 50399 only the burner power (20.5 kW) is known. In the cone calorimeter the heating is solely by radiation, whereas for the EN 50399 test a large fraction of the heat exposure depends on feed-back from the cable fire. This paper presents a measuring method for characterizing the thermal exposure inside the EN 50399 cable test apparatus without cables and with a cable rated Euroclass Dca. A new instrument for measuring thermal exposure simultaneously in several directions was developed for the purpose, and thereby the non-isotropic exposure on the cables at different position on the ladder could be investigated

- Mellanhänder på den afrikanska landsbygden har ett övertag gentemot bönderna, i form av att de har bättre information än bönderna om priser på grödor och insatsvaror på regionala marknader. De kan utnyttja detta till att erbjuda bönderna låga priser på grödor och höga priser på insatsvaror, vilket avskräcker bönderna från att öka sin produktion. Förändrad tillgång till information om priser på regionala marknader, antingen via offentliga satsningar på exempelvis radiosändningar om priser eller via privat utbyggnad av mobiltelefonnätet, kan därför potentiellt ha stor effekt på den lokala prisbildningen och (på längre sikt) på jordbruksproduktionen.Programmet kommer för det första att utveckla teoretiska modeller för hur förändrad tillgång på information påverkar förhandlingsspelet mellan bönder och mellanhänder. För det andra kommer vi att analysera de faktiska effekterna av två sådana informationssatsningar i Etiopien (via radio) och Rwanda (via mobiltelefoni). Vi kommer att utnyttja att vi, via tidigare upparbetade kanaler, har tillgång till mycket bra data för bägge länder.Den låga produktiviteten i jordbruket är ett av de viktigaste problemen i Afrika i dag. Om förbättrad information till bönderna kan leda till ökad produktivitet är det en billig lösning på flera av de problem som Afrika står inför, och det är därför viktigt med en bättre förståelse av hur stor effekt sådana informationssatsningar faktiskt har.

Migmatization related to mafic underplating and intra- or back-arc spreading above a subduction boundary in a 2.0−1.8 Ga accretionary orogen, Sweden

- Absolute ages of migmatization and protolith formation, and constraints on the timing of ductile deformation in two major lithotectonic units in the south-western part of a 2.0–1.8 Ga orogenic belt in the Fennoscandian Shield, south-eastern Sweden, have been determined using U-Pb ion probe analysis of different generations of zircon in veined gneisses and leucocratic granite. Detrital and xenocrystic zircon in paragneiss and garnet-bearing leucogranite, respectively, in the Bergslagen lithotectonic unit show ages of 2.1–2.0 Ga and 1.9 Ga. Deposition of the sedimentary material occurred during or after a subduction-related magmatic event at 1.91–1.87 Ga. Two orthogneiss protoliths formed during this magmatic event around 1.88 Ga while most zircon in the leucosome in a third migmatitic orthogneiss was inherited from a 1.85 Ga igneous protolith. A polyphase tectonothermal evolution with anatexis under low-P metamorphic conditions around 1.86 Ga (M1) and 1.84–1.81 Ga (M2) is inferred for the migmatitic gneisses in the Bergslagen unit; garnet-bearing leucogranite crystallized around 1.84–1.83 Ga, close in time to major folding of the M1 gneissic fabric. A previously unrecognised 1.86–1.85 Ga ductile deformational event under medium-grade metamorphic conditions has been identified in the adjacent lithotectonic unit to the south (Småland lithotectonic unit), close in time to the M1 event in the Bergslagen unit to the north.By constraining the timing of anatexis and comparing with information bearing on crustal thickness, excess mass at depth and the character and age of magmatic activity, it is inferred that anatexis in the Bergslagen lithotectonic unit is related to pulses of mafic underplating, during the early stages of two separate, subduction-related magmatic episodes after the 1.91–1.87 Ga magmatic event. It is suggested that each pulse was related to intra- or back-arc spreading above a subduction boundary, which had entered a retreating mode with separate, long periods (20–50 Ma) of extension or transtension. This study challenges the need to invoke crustal thickening related to plate collision at 1.9–1.8 Ga as a mechanism to explain high-grade metamorphism in the southern part of the 2.0–1.8 Ga orogen. Instead, a solely accretionary tectonic model involving an overriding plate along an active continental margin with significant extensional or transtensional crustal deformation is preferred.

Comparisons between recalled and observed dietary intake in anorectics and bulimics : A validation study

- A validation study was performed in order to compare the observed versus the self-reported food consumption in anorectics (n = 9), anorectic bulimics (n = 6) and bulimics (n = 10). The observed meals (breakfast, lunch and/or dinner) were served in a hospital setting. Foods on plates were unobtrusively weighed before and after serving to each subject, and the foods consumed were compared with data from a 24-hour recall the subsequent day. Data analyses via a nutrient database comprised amounts of food items from seven food groups as well as energy, macro nutrients, vitamin C, calcium and iron. Analyses of recalled intakes showed consistently high correlations with observed intakes, suggesting that the 24-hour recall gives valid results, and could thus be suitable for this category of patients. This notion contrasts with previous statements, although no validation studies have been undertaken in order to support this view
