  • The HyMethShip Project. Innovative Emission Free Propulsion for Ships
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 29th CIMAC World Congress.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The HyMethShip project (Hydrogen-Methanol Ship Propulsion Using On-board Pre-combustion Carbon Capture) is a cooperative R&D project funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. The project aims to drastically reduce emissions while improving the efficiency of waterborne transport. The HyMethShip system will achieve a reduction in CO2 of more than 97% and practically eliminate SOx and PM emissions. NOx emissions will fall by over 80%. below the IMO Tier III limit. The energy efficiency of the HyMethShip system is expected to be more than 45% greater than the best available technology (renewable methanol as the fuel coupled with conventional post-combustion carbon capturing). The HyMethShip system innovatively combines a membrane reactor, a CO2 capture system, a storage system for CO2 and methanol as well as a hydrogen-fueled combustion engine into one system. Methanol is reformed to hydrogen, which is then burned in a conventional reciprocating engine that has been upgraded to burn multiple fuel types and specially optimized for hydrogen use. The basic engine type is the same as the one currently used on the majority of ships. This project will develop this system further and integrate it into shipboard installations. The system will be developed, validated, and demonstrated on-shore on an engine in the range of 1 to 2 MW. The project started in 2018 and will run for 3 years. The work is structured into 11 work packages that deal with the pre-combustion carbon capture system and the internal combustion engine as well as assess safety, economic and environmental factors and system integration. The consortium consists of 13 partners including a globally operating shipping company, a major shipyard, a ship classification society, research institutes and universities and equipment manufacturers. The publication will present the structure of the work and preliminary results of the project.

  • Medical Entity Corpus with PICO Elements and Sentiment Analysis
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the Eleventh International Conference on Language Resources and Evaluation (LREC 2018). - 9791095546009 ; , s. 292-296
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we present our process to establish a PICO and a sentiment annotated corpus of clinical trial publications. PICO stands for Population, Intervention, Comparison and Outcome - these four classes can be used for more advanced and specific search queries. For example, a physician can determine how well a drug works only in the subgroup of children. Additionally to the PICO extraction, we conducted a sentiment annotation, where the sentiment refers to whether the conclusion of a trial was positive, negative or neutral. We created both corpora with the help of medical experts and non-experts as annotators.

  • Automating Loading and Unloading for Autonomous Transport: Identifying Challenges and Requirements with a Systems Approach
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: IFIP Advances in Information and Communication Technology. - 1868-4238 .- 1868-422X. - 9783031436697 ; 691 AICT, s. 332-345
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The logistics industry has undergone significant changes due to high demand, competition, cost pressures, interruptions, and labor market limitations affecting supply chains. As a result, there has been a significant adoption of automation in internal logistics such as warehousing, stock control, and material handling, leading to increased organizational competitiveness by reducing manual labor costs and time spent on these operations. The use of autonomous road transport holds potential to improve transport performance within areas of safety, sustainability, and efficiency. However, for autonomous transport to be fully ealized, loading and unloading processes at shipping and receiving facilities must also be automated. This paper takes a systems approach to identify the challenges and requirements for automated loading and unloading in a setting of autonomous truck transport potentially within a production setting. By addressing these challenges and meeting the necessary requirements, it may be possible to fully realize the benefits of autonomous transport and improve overall transport performance.

  • Optimal allocation of design margins in additive remanufacturing
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the ASME Design Engineering Technical Conference. ; 3B-2021
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Often, coping with changing requirements results in substantial overdesign, because of the ways in which design margins are allocated at the beginning of the design process. In this paper, we present a design optimization method for minimizing overdesign using additive manufacturing. We use recently defined constituents of design margins (buffer and excess) as metrics in a design optimization problem to minimize overdesign. The method can be used to obtain optimal design decisions for changing requirements. We demonstrate our method by means of a turbine rear structure design problem where changes in the temperature loads are met by depositing different types of stiffeners on the outer casing. The optimal decisions obtained by optimization minimize overdesign but ensure that requirements are met throughout the product's lifecycle.

  • Scalable set-based design optimization and remanufacturing for meeting changing requirements
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the ASME Design Engineering Technical Conference. ; 11A-2020
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Engineering design problems often have open-ended requirements, especially in the early stages of development. Setbased design is a paradigm for exploring, and keeping under consideration, several alternatives so that commitment to a single design can be delayed until requirements are settled. In addition, requirements may change over the lifetime of a component or a system. Novel manufacturing technologies enable designs to be remanufactured to meet changed requirements. By considering this capability during the set-based design optimization process, solutions can be scaled to meet evolving requirements and customer specifications even after commitment. Such an ability can also support a circular economy paradigm based on the return of used or discarded components and systems to working condition. We propose a set-based design methodology to obtain scalable optimal solutions that can satisfy changing requirements through remanufacturing. We first use design optimization and surrogate modeling to obtain parametric optimal designs. This set of parametric optimal designs is then reduced to scalable optimal designs by observing a set of transition rules for the manufacturing process used (additive or subtractive). The methodology is demonstrated by means of a structural aeroengine component that is remanufactured by direct energy deposition of a stiffener to meet higher loading requirements.

  • Inline Process Control – a concept study of efficient in-line process control and process adjustment with respect to product geometry
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Swedish Production Symposium 2016 SPS 2016. - Lund, Sweden.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • All manufacturing processes have variation which may violate the fulfillment of assembly, functional, geometrical or esthetical requirements and difficulties to reach desired form in all areas. The cost for geometry defects rises downstream in the process chain. Therefore, it is vital to discover these defects as soon as they appear. Then adjustments can be done in the process without losing products or time. In order to find a solution for this, a project with the overall scope “development of an intelligent process control system” has been initiated. This project consists of five different work packages: Inline measurement, Process Evaluation, Corrective actions, Flexible tooling and demonstrator cell. These work packages address different areas which are necessary to fulfill the overall scope of the project. The system shall both be able to detect geometrical defects, propose adjustments and adjust simple process parameters. The results are demonstrated in a demo cell located at Chalmers University of Technology. In the demonstrator all the different areas have been verified in an industrial case study – assembly of GOR Volvo S80. Efficient offline programming for robot based measurement, efficient process evaluation based on case base reasoning (CBR) methodology, flexible fixtures and process adjustments based on corrective actions regarding in going part positioning.

  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The recent years of rapid development of mobile technologies creates opportunities for new user-groups in the mobile workforce to take advantage of in-formation systems (IS). However, to apprehend and harness these opportunities for mobile IS it is crucial to fully understand the user group and the mobile tech-nology. In this paper we deductively, from previous research on aspects on mobili-ty, synthesize a tentative analytical framework capturing factors accentuated in mobile IS design. We evaluate the framework based on criteria of completeness, distinctiveness, and simplicity. Eventually, these two steps develop the framework towards a theoretical contribution as theory for describing handheld computing from a designer’s perspective. Thirteen semi-structured interviews were made and the tentative framework was elaborated and confirmed.
