  • Experimental review of the performances of protective coatings for interconnects in solid oxide fuel cells
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Power Sources. - : Elsevier BV. - 0378-7753. ; 568
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ferritic stainless steel interconnects are used in solid oxide fuel cells; however, coatings are required to improve their performance. Although several types of coatings have been proposed, they have been scarcely investigated under similar conditions. This study compares the characteristics of uncoated Crofer 22 APU and eight different coatings on Crofer 22 APU for up to 3000 h at 800 °C. The coatings were deposited at various research laboratories around the world, and the experiments were performed at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden. Cross-sections of the samples were analysed using scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive x-ray spectroscopy. The (Co,Mn)-based coated steels showed more than 50-fold lower chromium evaporation and at least 3 times thinner Cr2O3 scale thickness compared to uncoated steel. The coated steel samples showed lower area-specific resistance (ASR) values than the uncoated steel after 3000 h of exposure, irrespective of the coating thickness, composition and deposition method.

  • Activity of Ferric Oxide in Steelmaking Slag
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Metallurgical and materials transactions. B, process metallurgy and materials processing science. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1073-5615 .- 1543-1916. ; 41:2, s. 414-419
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Refining reactions in steelmaking primarily involve oxidation of impurity element(s). The oxidation potential of the slag and the activity of oxygen in the metal (h(O)) are the major factors controlling these chemical reactions. In turn, the oxidation potential of the slag is influenced strongly by the equilibrium distribution of oxygen between ferrous and ferric oxides. We recently investigated the activity coefficient of FeO in steelmaking slag and the effect of chemical composition thereon. This work is focused on estimation of the activity coefficient of Fe2O3.

  • Thermodynamics of Phosphorus and Sulphur Removal during Basic Oxygen Steelmaking
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: STEEL RESEARCH INTERNATIONAL. - : Wiley. ; , s. 932-939
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Removal of impurity elements from hot metal is essential in basic oxygen steelmaking. Oxidation of phosphorus from hot metal has been studied by several authors since the early days of steelmaking. Influence of different parameters on the distribution of phosphorus, seen during the recent work of the authors, differs somewhat from that reported earlier. On the other hand, removal of sulphur during steelmaking has drawn much less attention. This may be due to the magnitude of desulphurisation in oxygen steelmaking being relatively low and desulphurisation during hot metal pre-treatment or in the ladle furnace offering better commercial viability Further, it is normally accepted that sulphur is removed to steelmaking slag in the form of sulphide only However, recent investigations have indicated that a significant amount of sulphur removed during basic oxygen steelmaking can exist in the form of sulphate in the slag under oxidising conditions. The distribution of sulphur during steelmaking becomes more important in the event of carry-over of sulphur-rich blast-furnace slag, which increases sulphur load in the BOF. The chemical nature of sulphur in this slag undergoes a gradual transition from sulphide to sulphate as the oxidative refining progresses.

  • Understanding the coevolution of mask wearing and epidemics : A network perspective
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. - : National Academy of Sciences. - 1091-6490 .- 0027-8424. ; 119:26
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) such as mask wearing can be effective in mitigating the spread of infectious diseases. Therefore, understanding the behavioral dynamics of NPIs is critical for characterizing the dynamics of disease spread. Nevertheless, standard infection models tend to focus only on disease states, overlooking the dynamics of "beneficial contagions," e.g., compliance with NPIs. In this work, we investigate the concurrent spread of disease and mask-wearing behavior over multiplex networks. Our proposed framework captures both the competing and complementary relationships between the dueling contagion processes. Further, the model accounts for various behavioral mechanisms that influence mask wearing, such as peer pressure and fear of infection. Our results reveal that under the coupled disease-behavior dynamics, the attack rate of a disease-as a function of transition probability-exhibits a critical transition. Specifically, as the transmission probability exceeds a critical threshold, the attack rate decreases abruptly due to sustained mask-wearing responses. We empirically explore the causes of the critical transition and demonstrate the robustness of the observed phenomena. Our results highlight that without proper enforcement of NPIs, reductions in the disease transmission probability via other interventions may not be sufficient to reduce the final epidemic size

  • Investigating Impact of Augmented Reality on Game Design to Facilitate Learning Experiences in Logistics Operations Using Immersive AR Interfaces
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Lecture Notes in Computer Science. - Cham : Springer Science and Business Media Deutschland GmbH. ; , s. 419-426
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Augmented Reality (AR) provides an immersive experience platform where players may interact with the real world. Virtual digital information details enhance this interaction with the physical environment. This paper focuses on investigating using Augmented Reality (AR) technology for player’s interaction influences the game design (technical features and interactivity aspects mainly) that could facilitate its players to achieve its proposed Intended Learning Objectives when playing different scenarios for logistic operations. To achieve this, an initial mock-up is set up with simple AR interactions to analyse the overall immersive player’s experience.

  • Justicia: A Stochastic SAT Approach to Formally Verify Fairness
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: 35th AAAI Conference on Artificial Intelligence, AAAI 2021. - 9781713835974 ; 35, s. 7554-7563
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • As a technology ML is oblivious to societal good or bad, and thus, the field of fair machine learning has stepped up to propose multiple mathematical definitions, algorithms, and systems to ensure different notions of fairness in ML applications. Given the multitude of propositions, it has become imperative to formally verify the fairness metrics satisfied by different algorithms on different datasets. In this paper, we propose a stochastic satisfiability (SSAT) framework, Justicia, that formally verifies different fairness measures of supervised learning algorithms with respect to the underlying data distribution. We instantiate Justicia on multiple classification and bias mitigation algorithms, and datasets to verify different fairness metrics, such as disparate impact, statistical parity, and equalized odds. Justicia is scalable, accurate, and operates on non-Boolean and compound sensitive attributes unlike existing distribution-based verifiers, such as FairSquare and VeriFair. Being distribution-based by design, Justicia is more robust than the verifiers, such as AIF360, that operate on specific test samples. We also theoretically bound the finite-sample error of the verified fairness measure.
