- We present the formation of a new Master’s program in Integrated Electronic System Design (IESD). The main ideas behind the program are; 1) Two parallel introductory courses in the first study quarter: One rather practical top-down VHDL-oriented course, and one more theoretical bottom-up silicon-oriented digital VLSI design course. 2) A new broad course focusing on design methodologies from Electronic System Level (ESL) to VLSI, with hands-on emphasis on ASIC backend methodologies. 3) A large project during the first year spring semester in which the knowledge gained during the fall is utilized in design and verification using several complementing technology platforms. 4) Re-use of existing advanced specialist courses (formal methods, computer architecture, and analog VLSI design).

Nourishment for the piggy bank : facilitation of external financing in incubators

- In this paper, we argue that incubators facilitate access to external financing for their incubatees. Incubators use a wide range of activities to facilitate the accessing of external financing from public and private sources. We have grouped these into two sets of activities. The general activities aim to develop the conditions for external financing through information, education of incubatees, network-building and lobbying activities. The specific activities aim to assist the individual incubatee in their pursuit of external finance through help in application procedures, establishing need for capital, making contacts with the best public or private investor, etc. Based on the survey data, we have also shown that it is more common for incubatees to attract external capital compared to non-incubator firms. The incubatees seem especially successful in attracting public capital. The incubatees also attract more private external capital, however, the observed frequency of private capital in the incubatees are low.

- Featured Application The paper demonstrates key structural characteristics of a novel aluminum alloy conceived for AM-based components in the aviation frame.Abstract The recent advances achieved in additive manufacturing (AM) technology demonstrate the potential to realize customized metal components, ensuring weight reduction opportunities. These benefits make AM attractive for high-cost aerospace applications, especially where high geometric complexity is required. In the context of an EU research scenario, the H2020 MANUELA (Additive Manufacturing Using Metal Pilot Line) project promotes the development of new technologies for design optimization by enabling the application of novel materials in AM. This paper illustrates recent advances in a new aluminum alloy (Al-HS1) with high strength emphasizing all of the characterization steps at the coupon level. This material has been employed in the re-engineering of a conventional hydraulic manifold using a powder bed fusion-laser beam (PBF-LB) process. Both the simulations and structural tests allowed for proving its compliance and technological maturity with industrial standards and applicable airworthiness requirements.

Characterization and modeling of acousto-optic signal strengths in highly scattering media

- Ultrasound optical tomography (UOT) is an imaging technique based on the acousto-optic effect that can perform optical imaging with ultrasound resolution inside turbid media, and is thus interesting for biomedical applications, e.g. for assessing tissue blood oxygenation. In this paper, we present near background free measurements of UOT signal strengths using slow light filter signal detection. We carefully analyze each part of our experimental setup and match measured signal strengths with calculations based on diffusion theory. This agreement between experiment and theory allows us to assert the deep tissue imaging potential of similar to 5 cm for UOT of real human tissues predicted by previous theoretical studies [Biomed. Opt. Express 8, 4523 (2017)] with greater confidence, and indicate that future theoretical analysis of optimized UOT systems can be expected to be reliable. - In this paper we discuss gravity in the light-front formulation (light-cone gauge) and show how possible counterterms arise. We find that Poincare invariance is not enough to find the three-point counterterms uniquely. Higher-spin fields can intrude and mimic three-point higher derivative gravity terms. To select the correct term we have to use the remaining reparametrization invariance that exists after the gauge choice. We finally sketch how the corresponding programme for N = 8 Supergravity should work.

- We consider local counterterms to 4-dimensional gravity and 4- and 10-dimensional super-gravity theories in the light-front gauge. With the technique developed, we show that there are no local counterterms other than the lagrangian possible in the superstring thoeries. This is a strong indication that these theories are finite or at least renormalizable to allorders in the perturbation expansions.
