    • We are describing a fully automatic in-line shape inspection system for controlling the shape of moving objects on a conveyor belt. The shapes of the objects are measured using a full-field optical shape measurement method based on photogrammetry. The photogrammetry system consists of four cameras, a flash, and a triggering device. When an object to be measured arrives at a given position relative to the system, the flash and cameras are synchronously triggered to capture images of the moving object.From the captured images a point-cloud representing the measured shape is created. The point-cloud is then aligned to a CAD-model, which defines the nominal shape of the measured object, using a best-fit method and a feature-based alignment method. Deviations between the point-cloud and the CAD-model are computed giving the output of the inspection process. The computational time to create a point-cloud from the captured images is about 30 seconds and the computational time for the comparison with the CAD-model is about ten milliseconds. We report on recent progress with the shape inspection system.

  • Digital health platforms for the elderly? Key adoption and usage barriers and ways to address them

    • Digital healthcare platforms (DHPs) represent a relatively new phenomenon that could provide a valuable complement to physical primary care – for example, by reducing costs, improving access to healthcare, and allowing patient monitoring. However, such platforms are mainly used today by the younger generations, which creates a “digital divide” between the younger and the elderly. This article aims to identify: i) the perceived key barriers that inhibit adoption and usage of DHPs by the elderly, and ii) what DHP providers can do to facilitate increased adoption and usage by the elderly. The article draws on qualitative interviews with elderly and complementary process data from a major Swedish DHP. We find that the elderly perceives two key barriers to initial adoption of DHPs: i) negative attitudes and technology anxiety and ii) one key barrier affecting both adoption and usage – lack of trust. The analysis also identifies multiple development suggestions for DHP improvement to better accommodate the needs of the elderly, including suggestions for application development and tailored education activities. We provide an integrated framework outlining the key barriers perceived and ways to address them. In so doing, we contribute to the literature on mHealth and to the literature on platforms in healthcare.

    • The loading process in sublevel caving mines entails loading material from the drawpoint using load haul dump machines that transport the material to orepasses or trucks, depending on the mine conditions. When each bucket is drawn from the drawpoint, a decision must be made as to whether loading should continue or be stopped and the next ring blasted. The decision to abandon the drawpoint is irrevocable, as it is followed by the blasting of the next ring. Abandonment of the drawpoint too early leads to ore losses and inefficient use of ore resources. Loading beyond the optimal point increases dilution as well as mining costs.The experience of the LHD operators is an important basis for manual drawpoint control. However, it has been difficult to establish which specific factors manual drawpoint control is based on. To try to shed more light on these factors we analysed the operators' experiences at LKAB's Kiirunavaara and Malmberget iron ore mines. The operators in the two mines completed a questionnaire on the current loading practices and the process of deciding to abandon 'normal' rings, opening rings, and rings with loading issues.It was found that in both case study mines, most decisions on the abandonment of drawpoints are made by the operators. The more experienced operators tend to make more decisions themselves rather than rely on support from the existing support functions.

    • Published by Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.The purpose of this article is to explore structural preconditions for occupational well-being among blue-collar temporary agency workers within the Swedish manufacturing industry based on managers’ views and expectations of the worker. Through 25 interviews, we investigate how blue-collar temporary agency workers are seen by management using critical realism and the concept of ‘norm circles’ to analyse spatial, relational, sociotechnical and normative structures. We show how structures and norm circles possess alienating or dealienating mechanisms that precondition blue-collar temporary agency workers’ occupational well-being. The findings indicate management’s role as an important gatekeeper in determining structural preconditions for blue-collar temporary agency workers’ occupational well-being. By introducing aspects of skill and acquired skill, along with social aspects changing over time, this article contributes to the existing literature on blue-collar temporary agency workers’ occupational well-being.
