  • 5 year Global 3-mm VLBI survey of Gamma-ray active blazars
  • 2015

  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Global mm-VLBI Array (GMVA) is a network of 14.3 mm and 7 mm capable telescopes spanning Europe and the United States, with planned extensions to Asia. The array is capable of sensitive maps with angular resolution often exceeding 50 μas. Using the GMVA, a large sample of prominent γ-ray blazars have been observed approximately 6 monthly from later 2008 until now. Combining 3 mm maps from the GMVA with near-in-time 7 mm maps from the VLBA-BU-BLAZAR program and 2 cm maps from the MOJAVE program, we determine the sub-pc morphology and high frequency spectral structure of γ-ray blazars. The magnetic field strengthcan be estimated at different locations along the jet under the assumption of equipartition between magnetic field and relativistic particle energies. Making assumptions on the jet magnetic field configuration (e.g. poloidal or toroidal), we can estimate the separation of the mm-wave “core” and the jet base, and estimate the strength of the magnetic field there. The results of this analysisshow that on average, the magnetic field strength decreases with a power-law (B proportional to r^(−n), with n = 0.3 +/- 0.2). This suggests that on average, the mm-wave “core” is ∼ 1 − 3 pc downstream of the deprojected jet apex and that the magnetic field strength is of the order B apex ∼ 5 − 20 kG, broadly consistent with the predictions of magnetic jet launching (e.g. via magnetically arrested disks, MAD).

  • The latest results from the global mm VLBI array
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of Science. - 1824-8039. ; 2012-October
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Global mm-VLBI Array (GMVA) is the highest angular resolution imaging interferometer currently available as a common user facility. It is capable of angular resolutions on the order of 40 microarcseconds. Currently 14 stations in the United States and Europe participate in global 3 mm VLBI observations. The GMVA is used for continuum and spectroscopic imaging, probing the central regions of active galaxies and the origin of jets as these regions are typically not observable at longer wavelengths due to synchrotron self-absorption. In early 2012, fringes were detected to the three stations of the Korean VLBI Network (KVN), opening the possibility of extending the baseline coverage of the VLBI array to the East. In these proceedings, we will present recent images from a monitoring program of gamma-ray blazars using the GMVA, including the sources 3C454.3 and 0235+164, and an update of its current status and abilities.

  • Thermal Transient Measurements of GaN HEMT Structures by Electrical Measurements
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: 2023 18th European Microwave Integrated Circuits Conference, EuMIC 2023. ; , s. 293-296
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The thermal transient behaviour of GaN HEMT structures is studied using an integrated sensor placed in the close vicinity of a heat source. It is demonstrated that the method can extract time constants in the μs range for a 5 μm separation between the sensor and heat source. The study includes measurements that show how lateral separation, dissipated power, and proximity to the edge of the chip impact the temperature increase of a device. It is concluded that the method is promising for calibrating numerical models and evaluating packaging solutions.

  • Influence of cross-modal sensory interactions on cheese flavour intensity and character
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: ACS Symp. Ser.. - Washington, DC : American Chemical Society. - 9780841230699 ; , s. 15-25
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cross-modal sensory interactions between cheese aroma and taste, and their effect on cheese flavour intensity and difference in flavour character, were determined. NaCl, lactic acid, and aroma were varied at three different levels in combination, according to a 33 full factorial design. The change in cheese flavour intensity and difference in flavour character were measured relative to a reference using a panel (n=9). Model solutions were delivered by the simultaneous gustometer olfactometer. Increasing levels of NaCl, lactic acid, or aroma significantly (p<0.001) enhanced cheese flavour intensity. A significant interaction between NaCl and lactic acid levels with respect to cheese flavour intensity was detected, indicating that cross-modal sensory interactions were not linear. Flavour character also significantly (p<0.001) changed in that raising levels of NaCl decreased the difference in flavour character from the reference, while that of lactic acid or aroma increased the difference

  • Thermal analysis of GaN/SiC-on-Si assemblies: Effect of bump pitch and thickness of SiC Layer
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: 2020 26th International Workshop on Thermal Investigations of ICs and Systems, THERMINIC 2020 - Proceedings.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The ever-increasing requirements for high device performance and compact size drive the communications industry to lookfor new materials, technologies, and integration concepts. This simulation-based study investigates the thermal properties of a compact, heterogeneously integrated gallium nitride on silicon carbide (GaN-on-SiC) and silicon (Si) assembly. Thermal simulations and parametric studies are used to determine how the heat spreading and temperature levels in the lateral and vertical directions are affected by the thickness of the SiC layer and the distribution of the thermal interconnects. Results show that a SiC layer thinned down to 100 μm shows more pronounced differences in its thermal characteristics compared to thicker ones, especially in terms of its backside heating. Aspects related to practical implementations are also considered.
