  • A ring-like accretion structure in M87 connecting its black hole and jet
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nature. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 616:7958, s. 686-690
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The nearby radio galaxy M87 is a prime target for studying black hole accretion and jet formation1,2. Event Horizon Telescope observations of M87 in 2017, at a wavelength of 1.3 mm, revealed a ring-like structure, which was interpreted as gravitationally lensed emission around a central black hole3. Here we report images of M87 obtained in 2018, at a wavelength of 3.5 mm, showing that the compact radio core is spatially resolved. High-resolution imaging shows a ring-like structure of [Formula: see text] Schwarzschild radii in diameter, approximately 50% larger than that seen at 1.3 mm. The outer edge at 3.5 mm is also larger than that at 1.3 mm. This larger and thicker ring indicates a substantial contribution from the accretion flow with absorption effects, in addition to the gravitationally lensed ring-like emission. The images show that the edge-brightened jet connects to the accretion flow of the black hole. Close to the black hole, the emission profile of the jet-launching region is wider than the expected profile of a black-hole-driven jet, suggesting the possible presence of a wind associated with the accretion flow.

  • Helium Bubble Growth in He + Ions Implanted 304L Stainless Steel Processed by Laser Powder Bed Fusion During Post-Irradiation Annealing at 600 °C
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Acta Metallurgica Sinica (English Letters). - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1006-7191 .- 2194-1289. ; 35:9, s. 1509-1518
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The abundancy of defect sinks in the microstructure of laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) processed austenitic stainless steels was found to be beneficial for helium resistance. In the current study, the influence of the novel microstructure in LPBF processed 304L on the helium bubble growth behaviour was investigated using transmission electron microscopy in samples implanted with He+ ion and post-irradiation annealing treated at 600 °C for 1 h. Two variants of LPBF processed 304L samples were used, one in as-built condition and the other solution-annealed. The comparison between the two samples indicated that the helium bubble growth was inhibited and remained stable in the as-built sample but coarsened significantly in the solution-annealed sample. The sub-grain boundaries and oxide nano-inclusions acted as defect sinks to trap helium atoms and inhibited the growth of helium bubble in the as-built sample under the post-irradiation annealing conditions used.

  • 4-Tert-butylpyridine Free Organic Hole Transporting Materials for Stable and Efficient Planar Perovskite Solar Cells
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Advanced Energy Materials. - : Wiley. - 1614-6832 .- 1614-6840. ; 7:19
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • 4-Tert-butylpyridine (tBP) is an important additive in triarylamine-based organic hole-transporting materials (HTMs) for improving the efficiency and steady-state performance of perovskite solar cells (PVSCs). However, the low boiling point of tBP (196 degrees C) significantly affects the long-term stability and device performance of PVSCs. Herein, the design and synthesis of a series of covalently linked Spiro[fluorene-9,9'-xanthene] (SFX)-based organic HTMs and pyridine derivatives to realize efficient and stable planar PVSCs are reported. One of the tailored HTMs, N2, N2, N7, N7-tetrakis(4-methoxyphenyl)-3', 6'bis( pyridin-4-ylmethoxy) spiro[fluorene-9,9'-xanthene]-2,7-diamine (XPP) with two para-position substituted pyridines that immobilized on the SFX core unit shows a high power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 17.2% in planar CH3NH3PbI3-based PVSCs under 100 mW cm(-2) AM 1.5G solar illumination, which is much higher than the efficiency of 5.5% that using the well-known 2,2', 7,7'-tetrakis-(N, N-di-p-methoxy-phenyl-amine) 9,9'-spirobifluorene (SpiroOMeTAD) as HTM (without tBP) under the same condition. Most importantly, the pyridine-functionalized HTM-based PVSCs without tBP as additive show much better long-term stability than that of the state-of-the-art HTM SpiroOMeTAD- based solar cells that containing tBP as additive. This is the first case that the tBP-free HTMs are demonstrated in PVSCs with high PCEs and good stability. It paves the way to develop highly efficient and stable tBP-free HTMs for PVSCs toward commercial applications.

  • Modeling and Optimization of Thermoelements by a Combined Analytical and Numerical Method
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Journal of Electronic Materials. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0361-5235 .- 1543-186X. ; 43:2, s. 404-413
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A combined analytical and numerical process has been developed to model and optimize thermoelements. In this way, the performance of commercial n- and p-type thermoelectric materials can be optimized to deliver the maximum output power and conversion efficiency. The validity of the method is demonstrated using a silicon germanium unicouple.

  • White Paper on Machine Learning in 6G Wireless Communication Networks : 6G Research Visions, No. 7, 2020
  • 2020
  • Rapport (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This white paper discusses various topics, advances, and projections regarding machine learning (ML) in wireless communications. Sixth generation (6G) wireless communications networks will be the backbone of the digital transformation of societies by providing ubiquitous, reliable, and near-instant wireless connectivity for humans and machines. Recent advances in ML research have enabled a wide range of novel technologies such as self-driving vehicles and voice assistants. Such innovation is made possible by the availability of advanced ML models, large datasets, and high computational power. In addition, the ever-increasing demand for connectivity will require even more extensive innovation in 6G wireless networks. Consequently, ML tools will play a major role in solving the new problems in the wireless domain. In this paper, we offer a vision of how ML will impact wireless communications systems. We first provide an overview of the ML methods that have the highest potential to be used in wireless networks. We then discuss the problems that can be solved by using ML in various layers of the network such as the physical, medium-access, and application layers. Zero-touch optimization of wireless networks using ML is another interesting aspect discussed in this paper. Finally, at the end of each section, a set of important future research questions is presented.
