  • Disentangling the effects of vapor pressure deficit on northern terrestrial vegetation productivity
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Science Advances. - 2375-2548. ; 9:32
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The impact of atmospheric vapor pressure deficit (VPD) on plant photosynthesis has long been acknowledged, but large interactions with air temperature (T) and soil moisture (SM) still hinder a complete understanding of the influence of VPD on vegetation production across various climate zones. Here, we found a diverging response of productivity to VPD in the Northern Hemisphere by excluding interactive effects of VPD with T and SM. The interactions between VPD and T/SM not only offset the potential positive impact of warming on vegetation productivity but also amplifies the negative effect of soil drying. Notably, for high-latitude ecosystems, there occurs a pronounced shift in vegetation productivity's response to VPD during the growing season when VPD surpasses a threshold of 3.5 to 4.0 hectopascals. These results yield previously unknown insights into the role of VPD in terrestrial ecosystems and enhance our comprehension of the terrestrial carbon cycle's response to global warming.

  • Responses of soil extracellular enzyme activities and microbial community properties to interaction between nitrogen addition and increased precipitation in a semi-arid grassland ecosystem
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Science of the Total Environment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0048-9697. ; 703
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Both atmospheric nitrogen (N) deposition and precipitation can strongly impact below-ground biogeochemical processes. Soil extracellular enzymes activities (EEAs) and microorganisms are considered as the key agents in ecosystem nutrient cycling. However, how the interaction between increasing N deposition and precipitation may affect soil EEAs and microbes remain poorly understood. In a 5-year field experiment in a meadow steppe in northern China, we tested the effects of N addition (N0, 0; N1, 5; N2, 10 g N m−2 yr−1) and increased precipitation (W0, ambient precipitation; W1, increase of 15% ambient precipitation; W2, increase of 30% ambient precipitation) on soil EEAs, microbial and chemical properties. Results showed that their interaction significantly affected all hydrolase activities, except for β-1,4-xylosidase (βX). Furthermore, increased precipitation and N addition interactively affected bacterial gene copies (P ≤ 0.05), and increased precipitation comparatively had a stronger effects. The results on the combination of N addition and increased precipitation showed that increased precipitation alleviated the positive effects of N addition on soil EEAs. This implies that the effects of either treatment alone on grassland biogeochemical processes may be alleviated by their simultaneous occurrence. Our results suggested that soil EEAs were mainly controlled by the content of N and phosphorus (P), and the ratio of C: N and C: P. Therefore, soil element content and stoichiometry could better explain the responses of EEAs to global changes. Moreover, soil microbial communities were mainly controlled by soil P content. Overall, our study highlights that the interaction between N deposition and precipitation may play a vital role in predicting the responses of soil enzyme activities to global changes in grassland ecosystems.

  • The genetic basis for ecological adaptation of the Atlantic herring revealed by genome sequencing
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: eLIFE. - 2050-084X. ; 5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ecological adaptation is of major relevance to speciation and sustainable population management, but the underlying genetic factors are typically hard to study in natural populations due to genetic differentiation caused by natural selection being confounded with genetic drift in subdivided populations. Here, we use whole genome population sequencing of Atlantic and Baltic herring to reveal the underlying genetic architecture at an unprecedented detailed resolution for both adaptation to a new niche environment and timing of reproduction. We identify almost 500 independent loci associated with a recent niche expansion from marine (Atlantic Ocean) to brackish waters (Baltic Sea), and more than 100 independent loci showing genetic differentiation between spring- and autumn-spawning populations irrespective of geographic origin. Our results show that both coding and non-coding changes contribute to adaptation. Haplotype blocks, often spanning multiple genes and maintained by selection, are associated with genetic differentiation.

  • A novel isotropic conductive adhesive with Ag flakes, BN and SiC nanoparticles
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: 2010 International Symposium on Advanced Packaging Materials: Microtech, APM '10. - 9781424467563 ; , s. 49-53
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • Isotropic conductive adhesives (ICAs) with lower bonding temperature, higher resolution and environmental friendly have been used extensively in packaging process. In order to improve the electrical and thermal conductive properties of ICAs, two kinds of bimodal high temperature stable ICAs with matrix SHT6 and fillers with composition of macro silver flakes and boron nitride nanoparticles or macro silver flakes and silicon carbide nanoparticles were studied. In these two kinds of adhesives, the silver flakes were 75wt%, and the contents of nanoparticles were Owt%, 0.5wt%, 1.5wt%, 2.5wt%, 3wt%, 5wt% in weight. All the samples were cured at 150°C for 1 hour. SEM images and EDS results show the nanoparticles disperse randomly in the ICA. The electrical resistivity of these ICAs depends on the contents of silver flakes and is hardly affected by BN nanoparticles and SiC nanoparticles. The thermal conductivity of these ICAs increases firstly with the weight increase of the BN nanoparticles and SiC nanoparticles. And then it decreases when the content of the nanoparticles beyond a certain point. ©2010 IEEE.

  • Scalable three-dimensional Ni 3 P-based composite networks for flexible asymmertric supercapacitors
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Chemical Engineering Journal. - : Elsevier BV. - 1385-8947. ; 380
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Flexible energy storage devices are of great importance in future wearable electronics. To achieve the popularization of these flexible equipments, it is urgent to develop proper productive method for easily scaling up high performance flexible electrode materials. Herein, a three-dimensional nano-network composite material based on Ni3P is designed on flexible carbon felt (CF). The network induced by the introduction of sulfonated polystyrene combines advantages of excellent redox ability of the Ni3P, great conductivity of NiCo alloy and fast electric double layer contribution of carbon. It shows a great energy storage performance and an excellent balance between areal and gravimetric capacitance (1.76 F cm−2 and 1048 F g−1), which are beneficial to the actual application. Besides, this CF@NiCoNiPC can be easily produced in a large-scale due to the simple and low-cost synthetic method. The CF@NiCoNiPC can be further fabricated into an asymmetric supercapacitor (ASC), which demonstrates an excellent capacitance of 516.7 mF cm−2 (170.5 F g−1) and long-term stability of 25,000 charging and discharging cycles (83% retentions). Excitingly, the ASC presents good mechanical performance with 92% capacitance retention after 1000 bending cycles. Three tandem ASCs can easily power a red LED for several minutes when charged for only 20 s even under a bent state, indicating the great potential in future flexible energy storage devices.
