  • Identification and analysis of functional elements in 1% of the human genome by the ENCODE pilot project
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Nature. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 447:7146, s. 799-816
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report the generation and analysis of functional data from multiple, diverse experiments performed on a targeted 1% of the human genome as part of the pilot phase of the ENCODE Project. These data have been further integrated and augmented by a number of evolutionary and computational analyses. Together, our results advance the collective knowledge about human genome function in several major areas. First, our studies provide convincing evidence that the genome is pervasively transcribed, such that the majority of its bases can be found in primary transcripts, including non-protein-coding transcripts, and those that extensively overlap one another. Second, systematic examination of transcriptional regulation has yielded new understanding about transcription start sites, including their relationship to specific regulatory sequences and features of chromatin accessibility and histone modification. Third, a more sophisticated view of chromatin structure has emerged, including its inter-relationship with DNA replication and transcriptional regulation. Finally, integration of these new sources of information, in particular with respect to mammalian evolution based on inter- and intra-species sequence comparisons, has yielded new mechanistic and evolutionary insights concerning the functional landscape of the human genome. Together, these studies are defining a path for pursuit of a more comprehensive characterization of human genome function.

  • A Comprehensive Pan-Cancer Molecular Study of Gynecologic and Breast Cancers.
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Cancer Cell. - : Elsevier BV. - 1535-6108 .- 1878-3686. ; 33:4, s. 690-705.e9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We analyzed molecular data on 2,579 tumors from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) of four gynecological types plus breast. Our aims were to identify shared and unique molecular features, clinically significant subtypes, and potential therapeutic targets. We found 61 somatic copy-number alterations (SCNAs) and 46 significantly mutated genes (SMGs). Eleven SCNAs and 11 SMGs had not been identified in previous TCGA studies of the individual tumor types. We found functionally significant estrogen receptor-regulated long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) and gene/lncRNA interaction networks. Pathway analysis identified subtypes with high leukocyte infiltration, raising potential implications for immunotherapy. Using 16 key molecular features, we identified five prognostic subtypes and developed a decision tree that classified patients into the subtypes based on just six features that are assessable in clinical laboratories.

  • On the breakaway oxidation of Fe9Cr1Mo steel in high pressure CO2
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Acta Materialia. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 1359-6454 .- 1873-2453. ; 130, s. 361-374
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Fundamental insights into the mechanism of breakaway oxidation in Fe9Cr1Mo steel are deduced, through advanced characterisation and modelling. Degradation at 600 °C/∼42 bar CO2 for ∼20,000 h is emphasised: conditions relevant to components such as the finned superheater tubes used for advanced gas-cooled nuclear reactors. It is shown that such conditions are sufficient to cause carbon saturation of the metallic substrate, as confirmed by direct observation of extensive carbide precipitation but also numerical analysis of the carbon transport. Thus the observation of graphite precipitation close to the scale/metal interface is rationalised. Nonetheless, the activity of carbon at the scale/metal interface does not reach unity – with respect to graphite – at time zero. A modelling method is proposed which accounts for this kinetic retardation of the attack; this can be used to interpolate across the regimes within which breakaway oxidation is prevalent. It is a plausible model for extrapolation to the lower temperatures relevant to service conditions and is suitable for lifetime estimation – so-called ‘remnant life analysis’ – of such safety-critical components when prone to this form of attack.

  • Flexible diphenylsulfone versus rigid dibenzothiophene-dioxide as acceptor moieties in donor-acceptor-donor TADF emitters for highly efficient OLEDs
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Organic electronics. - : Elsevier. - 1566-1199 .- 1878-5530. ; 83
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Flexible versus rigid molecular structures of donor-acceptor-donor type compounds are investigated with respect to efficiency of thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) by theoretical and experimental approaches. Three highly efficient TADF emitters based on flexible diphenylsulfone and rigid dibenzothiophene-dioxide as acceptor units and di-tert-butyldimethyldihydroacridine as donor moiety were designed and synthesized. Despite they showed similar singlet-triplet splitting (0.01–0.02 eV) and high photoluminescence quantum yields in appropriate hosts, maximum external quantum efficiencies as different as 24.1 and 15.9/19.4% were obtained for organic light emitting devices based on these emitters with, respectively, flexible and rigid molecular structures. The high efficiency of the light-emitting compounds with the flexible molecular structure could be traced to the bi-configurational nature of the lowest singlet and triplet states resulting in higher spin-orbit coupling than for molecules with rigid structures. All derivatives showed bipolar charge transport character. High device efficiency with electron mobility of 3 × 10−5 cm2V−1s−1 and hole mobility of 1.3 × 10−4 cm2V−1s−1 at the electric field of 5 × 105 Vcm−1 was recorded for the layer of para-disubstituted diphenylsulfone with flexible molecular structure. This TADF emitter showed an excellent performance in the organic light emitting device, exhibiting a maximum current efficiency, power efficiency, and external quantum efficiency of 61.1 cdA-1, 64.0 lmW−1, and 24.1%, respectively.

  • Antenna design for diversity and MIMO application
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Handbook of Antenna Technologies. - Singapore : Springer. - 9789814560443 - 9789814560436 ; , s. 1479-1530
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recently, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technology and diversity have attracted much attention both in industry and academia due to high data rate and high spectrum efficiency. By increasing the number of antennas at the transmitter and/or the receiver side of the wireless link, the diversity/MIMO techniques can increase wireless channel capacity without the need of additional power or spectrum in rich scattering environments. However, due to limited space of small mobile devices, the correlation coefficients between MIMO antenna elements are usually very high, and the total efficiencies of MIMO elements would be degraded severely due to mutual couplings. In addition, the human body causes high losses on electromagnetic waves. In real applications, the presence of users may result in significant reduction of total antenna efficiencies, and the correlations of MIMO antenna systems are also highly affected. In this chapter, the performance of some basic MIMO antennas as well as recent technologies to improve MIMO antenna performance of portable devices and mobile terminals are reviewed. The interactions between MIMO antennas and human body are also addressed particularly in mobile terminals application.

  • Impact of size and decoupling element on some fundamental compact MIMO antennas
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: 2014 International Workshop on Antenna Technology. - 9781479923298 ; , s. 136-139
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The effective bandwidth of fundamental MIMO antennas (ideal MIMO Dipole and ideal MIMO monopole) are studied in this paper. The S11 bandwidth, total efficiency bandwidth and envelope correlation coefficient bandwidth are shown, and effects from antenna sizes, matching and decoupling networks are analyzed. Furthermore, the effective bandwidth of MIMO antennas is defined in this paper as the overlap part of above three bandwidths; it can show a comprehensive performance of the MIMO system.
