  • Molecular ND Band Spectroscopy in the Divertor Region of Nitrogen Seeded JET Discharges
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: International Conferences On Research And Applications Of Plasmas (Plasma-2017). - : IOP Publishing. ; , s. 012009-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this contribution we present OES measurements in the JET tokamak of the deuterated NH (ND) radical and the correlation between results of those experiments and measurement of ammonia production. The observation region covers most of the divertor and its outer throat. Measurements are performed in different magnetic configurations. The results include temporal and spatial dependence of the molecular emission intensity and study of the emission band shape (vibrational and rotational temperatures) during different JET pulses, with or without nitrogen seeding. Results are a step towards the understanding of nitrogen-containing molecule creation and destruction in the divertor plasma.

  • Experience of handling beryllium, tritium and activated components from JET ITER like wall
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). ; T167
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • JET components are removed periodically for surface analysis to assess material migration and fuel retention. This paper describes issues related to handling JET components and procedures for preparing samples for analysis; in particular a newly developed procedure for cutting beryllium tiles is presented. Consideration is also given to the hazards likely due to increased tritium inventory and material activation from 14 MeV neutrons following the planned TT and DT operations (DTE2) in 2017. Conclusions are drawn as to the feasibility of handling components from JET post DTE2.

  • Monte Carlo Simulation Of The Data Acquisition Chain Of Scintillation Detectors
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: International Conference on Fusion Reactor Diagnostics, SEP 09-13, 2013, Varenna, ITALY. - : AIP Publishing LLC. - 9780735412484 ; , s. 101-104
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The good performance of a detector can be strongly affected by the instrumentation used to acquire the data. The possibility of anticipating how the acquisition chain will affect the signal can help in finding the best solution among different set-ups. In this work we developed a Monte Carlo code that aims to simulate the effect of the various components of a digital Data Acquisition system (DAQ) applied to scintillation detectors. The components included in the model are: the scintillator, the photomultiplier tube (PMT), the signal cable and the digitizer. We benchmarked the code against real data acquired with a NE213 scintillator, comparing simulated and real signal pulses induced by gamma-ray interaction. Then we studied the dependence of the energy resolution of a pulse height spectrum (PHS) on the sampling frequency and the bit resolution of the digitizer. We found that exceeding some values of the sampling frequency and the bit resolution improves only marginally the performance of the system. The method can be applied for the study of various detector systems relevant for nuclear techniques, such as in fusion diagnostics.

  • Design of a Backscatter 14-MeV Neutron Time-of-Flight Spectrometer for Experiments at ITER
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Fusion Reactor Diagnostics. - : AIP Publishing LLC. - 9780735412484 ; , s. 145-148
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Neutron energy spectrometry diagnostics play an important role in present-day experiments related to fusion energy research. Measurements and thorough analysis of the neutron emission from the fusion plasma give information on a number of basic fusion performance quantities, on the condition of the neutron source and plasma behavior. Here we discuss the backscatter Time-of-Flight (bTOF) spectrometer concept as a possible instrument for performing high resolution measurements of 14 MeV neutrons. The instrument is based on two sets of scintillators, a first scatterer exposed to a collimated neutron beam and a second detector set placed in the backward direction. The scintillators of the first set are enriched in deuterium to achieve neutron backscattering. The energy resolution and efficiency of a bTOF instrument have been determined for various geometrical configurations. A preliminary design of optimal geometry for the two scintillator sets has been obtained by Monte Carlo simulations based on the MCNPX code.

  • Toward 17µm pitch heterogeneously integrated Si/SiGe quantum well bolometer focal plane arrays
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Infrared Technology and Applications XXXVII. - : SPIE - International Society for Optical Engineering. ; , s. 801216-1-801216-9
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Most of today's commercial solutions for un-cooled IR imaging sensors are based on resistive bolometers using either Vanadium oxide (VOx) or amorphous Silicon (a-Si) as the thermistor material. Despite the long history for both concepts, market penetration outside high-end applications is still limited. By allowing actors in adjacent fields, such as those from the MEMS industry, to enter the market, this situation could change. This requires, however, that technologies fitting their tools and processes are developed. Heterogeneous integration of Si/SiGe quantum well bolometers on standard CMOS read out circuits is one approach that could easily be adopted by the MEMS industry. Due to its mono crystalline nature, the Si/SiGe thermistor material has excellent noise properties that result in a state-ofthe- art signal-to-noise ratio. The material is also stable at temperatures well above 450°C which offers great flexibility for both sensor integration and novel vacuum packaging concepts. We have previously reported on heterogeneous integration of Si/SiGe quantum well bolometers with pitches of 40μm x 40μm and 25μm x 25μm. The technology scales well to smaller pixel pitches and in this paper, we will report on our work on developing heterogeneous integration for Si/SiGe QW bolometers with a pixel pitch of 17μm x 17μm.

  • Finite Larmor radii effects in fast ion measurements as demonstrated using neutron emission spectrometry of JET plasmas heated with 3rd harmonic ICRF
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: 38th EPS Conference on Plasma Physics 2011 (EPS 2011): Europhysics Conference Abstracts. - 2914771681
  • Konferensbidrag (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper demonstrates how the finite Larmor radii (FLR) of fast ions can affect fast ion measurements by studying data from the neutron time-of-flight spectrometer TOFOR. Neutron spectra were calculated from a model of the fast ion velocity distribution for a JET experiment with 3rd harmonic ICRF heating of deuterium beams. It was found that  FLR effects need to be considered to get a good description of the data,  if the Larmor radius of the fast ions are comparable to the width of the field of view of the instrument. This applies not only to results from neutron spectrometry but also to other types of fast ion diagnostics.
