  • Introducing the CTA concept
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Astroparticle physics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0927-6505 .- 1873-2852. ; 43, s. 3-18
  • Tidskriftsartikel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) is a new observatory for very high-energy (VHE) gamma rays. CTA has ambitions science goals, for which it is necessary to achieve full-sky coverage, to improve the sensitivity by about an order of magnitude, to span about four decades of energy, from a few tens of GeV to above 100 TeV with enhanced angular and energy resolutions over existing VHE gamma-ray observatories. An international collaboration has formed with more than 1000 members from 27 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North and South America. In 2010 the CTA Consortium completed a Design Study and started a three-year Preparatory Phase which leads to production readiness of CTA in 2014. In this paper we introduce the science goals and the concept of CTA, and provide an overview of the project. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • Design concepts for the Cherenkov Telescope Array CTA : an advanced facility for ground-based high-energy gamma-ray astronomy
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Experimental astronomy. - : Springer. - 0922-6435 .- 1572-9508. ; 32:3, s. 193-316
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has had a major breakthrough with the impressive results obtained using systems of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes. Ground-based gamma-ray astronomy has a huge potential in astrophysics, particle physics and cosmology. CTA is an international initiative to build the next generation instrument, with a factor of 5-10 improvement in sensitivity in the 100 GeV-10 TeV range and the extension to energies well below 100 GeV and above 100 TeV. CTA will consist of two arrays (one in the north, one in the south) for full sky coverage and will be operated as open observatory. The design of CTA is based on currently available technology. This document reports on the status and presents the major design concepts of CTA.

  • Investigations on baryonium and other rare pmacrp annihilation modes using high resolution pi0 spectrometers (PS 182)
  • 1985
  • Ingår i: Antiproton 1984. Proceedings of the VII European Symposium on Antiproton Interactions. - : Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE). ; , s. 297-304
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the search for heavy, narrow exotic states such as baryonium or glueballs, carried out so far, various methods of high- and low-energy production, low-energy formation, and e+e- reactions were used. In particular, a search for baryonium states below threshold (mxlsimmppmacr) has shown some evidence [Richter et al., 1983, Brando et al., 1984] for a few states. However, the results of these measurements suffer from poor statistics. Among the possible methods which can be applied in the baryonium bound state research at LEAR, the authors consider the study of the reaction ppmacrrarrX+pi0 as the most promising. They have performed an experiment to study this reaction by means of an experimental set-up especially tailored for measuring monoenergetic pi0,s, allowing for both angular distribution measurements and high-resolution spectroscopy. They report on the preliminary results from our actual measurements of the inclusive pi0 and eta spectra following the antiproton annihilation at rest.

  • Deuteron breakup by 1.15 GeV protons and excitation of the Δ isobar
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Physics Letters B. - : Elsevier. - 0370-2693 .- 1873-2445. ; 303:1-2, s. 10-15
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The pd→npp reaction has been measured using circulating 1.15 GeV protons, a gas jet target and scintillation detectors selecting scattered protons with energy above 30 MeV. The distribution of the two-proton invariant mass has a maximum at 2.13 ± 0.01 GeV/c2 and a width of 130 ± 10 MeV/c2 (FWHM). We see no evidence of narrow (Γ < 30 MeV/c2) peaks in the phase-space region selected. The mass of X, excited in the pN→nX elementary process, is 40 MeV/c2 smaller than the mass of a real Δ isobar.

  • Deuteron breakup in the Δ-isobar region
  • 1993
  • Ingår i: Physica Scripta. - : Institute of Physics (IOP). - 0031-8949 .- 1402-4896. ; 48:1, s. 86-91
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The pd → npp charge exchange reaction has been studied at 1.15 GeV incident proton energy in a selected kinematical region. The distributions of two-proton invariant mass Mpp, of angle of a single proton and the differential cross section dσ/dt of the (p, n) reaction are presented and compared with model predictions corrected for the acceptance of the experimental apparatus. We see no evidence of narrow (Γ < 30 MeV/c2) peaks in the Mpp interval 2.1-2.3 GeV/c2. The production of an intermediate Δ isobar in the primary (p, n) charge exchange and its subsequent absorption in a final state ΔN → pp process together with the background from quasi-free charge exchange scattering reasonably reproduces the general trends of the data.

  • Current Safety Concerns with Human Papillomavirus Vaccine : A Cluster Analysis of Reports in VigiBase®
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Drug Safety. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 0114-5916 .- 1179-1942. ; 40:1, s. 81-90
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • INTRODUCTION: A number of safety signals-complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS), postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS), and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS)-have emerged with human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccines, which share a similar pattern of symptomatology. Previous signal evaluations and epidemiological studies have largely relied on traditional methodologies and signals have been considered individually.OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to explore global reporting patterns for HPV vaccine for subgroups of reports with similar adverse event (AE) profiles.METHODS: All individual case safety reports (reports) for HPV vaccines in VigiBase(®) until 1 January 2015 were identified. A statistical cluster analysis algorithm was used to identify natural groupings based on AE profiles in a data-driven exploratory analysis. Clinical assessment of the clusters was performed to identify clusters relevant to current safety concerns.RESULTS: Overall, 54 clusters containing at least five reports were identified. The four largest clusters included 71 % of the analysed HPV reports and described AEs included in the product label. Four smaller clusters were identified to include case reports relevant to ongoing safety concerns (total of 694 cases). In all four of these clusters, the most commonly reported AE terms were headache and dizziness and fatigue or syncope; three of these four AE terms were reported in >50 % of the reports included in the clusters. These clusters had a higher proportion of serious cases compared with HPV reports overall (44-89 % in the clusters compared with 24 %). Furthermore, only a minority of reports included in these clusters included AE terms of diagnoses to explain these symptoms. Using proportional reporting ratios, the combination of headache and dizziness with either fatigue or syncope was found to be more commonly reported in HPV vaccine reports compared with non-HPV vaccine reports for females aged 9-25 years. This disproportionality remained when results were stratified by age and when those countries reporting the signals of CRPS (Japan) and POTS (Denmark) were excluded.CONCLUSIONS: Cluster analysis reveals additional reports of AEs following HPV vaccination that are serious in nature and describe symptoms that overlap those reported in cases from the recent safety signals (POTS, CRPS, and CFS), but which do not report explicit diagnoses. While the causal association between HPV vaccination and these AEs remains uncertain, more extensive analyses of spontaneous reports can better identify the relevant case series for thorough signal evaluation.

  • Migrating birds and tickborne encephalitis virus
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Emerging Infectious Diseases. - : Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). - 1080-6040 .- 1080-6059. ; 13:8, s. 1215-8
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • During spring and autumn 2001, we screened 13,260 migrating birds at Ottenby Bird Observatory, Sweden, and found 3.4% were infested with ticks. Four birds, each a different passerine species, carried tickborne encephalitis virus (TBEV)-infected ticks (Ixodes ricinus). Migrating birds may play a role in the geographic dispersal of TBEV-infected ticks.

  • Baryonium physics
  • 1983
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 1st Hellenic School on Elementary Particle Physics. - : Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE). ; , s. 437-466
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Various theoretical ideas on nuclear physics, quark models, and the dual topological unitarization lead to the expectation of massive mesons, called baryonium, coupled strongly to the ppmacr channel but weakly to mesons, thus resulting in a virtually high stability, particularly below the ppmacr threshold. Such states are relevant to nuclear physics owing to the fact that the badly explored short-range forces in the NN interactions are just the most relevant ones in the NNmacr systems. From the known NN potential, one is led to expect short-range attraction in NNmacr systems, and this should result in quasinuclear bound states in the vicinity of threshold.
