  • Mapping 123 million neonatal, infant and child deaths between 2000 and 2017
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Nature. - : Nature Publishing Group. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 574:7778, s. 353-358
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Since 2000, many countries have achieved considerable success in improving child survival, but localized progress remains unclear. To inform efforts towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3.2—to end preventable child deaths by 2030—we need consistently estimated data at the subnational level regarding child mortality rates and trends. Here we quantified, for the period 2000–2017, the subnational variation in mortality rates and number of deaths of neonates, infants and children under 5 years of age within 99 low- and middle-income countries using a geostatistical survival model. We estimated that 32% of children under 5 in these countries lived in districts that had attained rates of 25 or fewer child deaths per 1,000 live births by 2017, and that 58% of child deaths between 2000 and 2017 in these countries could have been averted in the absence of geographical inequality. This study enables the identification of high-mortality clusters, patterns of progress and geographical inequalities to inform appropriate investments and implementations that will help to improve the health of all populations. © 2019, The Author(s).

  • Spectroscopic analysis of LiKGdF5 : Er3+, Sm3+ single crystal
  • 2006
  • Ingår i: Journal of Alloys and Compounds. - : Elsevier BV. - 0925-8388 .- 1873-4669. ; 424:1-2, s. 334-337
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Low temperature photoluminescence spectra were measured under the selective excitation to the energy levels of Gd3+,Er3+ and Sm3+, respectively. Corresponding transitions were assigned with the help of fluorescence decay measurements. By assuming that the rare earth ion is in C-2v symmetry instead of the actual C-2, crystal field calculations were carried out based on the deduced experimental energy level data of Er3+ and Sm3+. The theoretical result is in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • A self-powered flexible piezoelectric sensor patch for deep learning-assisted motion identification and rehabilitation training system
  • 2024
  • Ingår i: Nano Energy. - : Elsevier BV. - 2211-2855 .- 2211-3282. ; 123
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Artificial intelligence-assisted wearable devices have attracted great interest in medical treatment and healthcare. However, wearable electronic devices are expensive to manufacture and usually depend on external power supply. Herein, a flexible self-powered piezoelectric sensor patch (SPP) using Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) fibrous film as the functional layer is demonstrated for the assessment and motion identification of wrist joint rehabilitation training. PVDF fibrous film is prepared by a triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG)-driven near-field electrospinning system with a special designed synchronous mechanical switch. The results show that this flexible SPP has a high sensitivity of 0.2768 V KPa−1 at pressures from 1 to 75 kPa. Such excellent flexibility allows us to attach the SPP to the finger as a tactile sensor for rehabilitation assessment of wrist joint flexibility. In addition, long short-term memory network model is used to process the collected data from the SPP for motion identification. The test accuracy of the SPP wrist motion identification reaches 92.6%, which afford a potential way to understand the progress of the rehabilitation training of patients' wrists. Generally, this flexible SPP shows great promise for applications in the fields of motion monitoring, medical diagnosis and rehabilitation training based on artificial intelligence.

  • Burden of injury along the development spectrum: associations between the Socio-demographic Index and disability-adjusted life year estimates from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2017
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Injury prevention : journal of the International Society for Child and Adolescent Injury Prevention. - : BMJ. - 1475-5785 .- 1353-8047. ; 26:SUPP_1Supp 1, s. 12-26
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The epidemiological transition of non-communicable diseases replacing infectious diseases as the main contributors to disease burden has been well documented in global health literature. Less focus, however, has been given to the relationship between sociodemographic changes and injury. The aim of this study was to examine the association between disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) from injury for 195 countries and territories at different levels along the development spectrum between 1990 and 2017 based on the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) 2017 estimates.MethodsInjury mortality was estimated using the GBD mortality database, corrections for garbage coding and CODEm—the cause of death ensemble modelling tool. Morbidity estimation was based on surveys and inpatient and outpatient data sets for 30 cause-of-injury with 47 nature-of-injury categories each. The Socio-demographic Index (SDI) is a composite indicator that includes lagged income per capita, average educational attainment over age 15 years and total fertility rate.ResultsFor many causes of injury, age-standardised DALY rates declined with increasing SDI, although road injury, interpersonal violence and self-harm did not follow this pattern. Particularly for self-harm opposing patterns were observed in regions with similar SDI levels. For road injuries, this effect was less pronounced.ConclusionsThe overall global pattern is that of declining injury burden with increasing SDI. However, not all injuries follow this pattern, which suggests multiple underlying mechanisms influencing injury DALYs. There is a need for a detailed understanding of these patterns to help to inform national and global efforts to address injury-related health outcomes across the development spectrum.

  • Bootstrapping body sensor networks using human controlled LED-camera channels
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: 2012 International Conference for Internet Technology and Secured Transactions, ICITST 2012. - : IEEE conference proceedings. - 9781908320087 ; , s. 433-438
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Body sensor networks enable many interesting applications. In these applications, sensor networks always collect sensitive information, thus security is significant. Since most security mechanisms are based on identities and keys, we propose a human controlled LED-camera channel based hash key before knowledge identity and key distribution protocol. The protocol has two advantages. Firstly, the protocol uses human controlled LED-camera channels, thus human burden is reduced. Secondly, protocol performance is optimized for sensor nodes.

  • Roadmap on energy harvesting materials
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics. - : IOP Publishing. - 2515-7639. ; 6:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Ambient energy harvesting has great potential to contribute to sustainable development and address growing environmental challenges. Converting waste energy from energy-intensive processes and systems (e.g. combustion engines and furnaces) is crucial to reducing their environmental impact and achieving net-zero emissions. Compact energy harvesters will also be key to powering the exponentially growing smart devices ecosystem that is part of the Internet of Things, thus enabling futuristic applications that can improve our quality of life (e.g. smart homes, smart cities, smart manufacturing, and smart healthcare). To achieve these goals, innovative materials are needed to efficiently convert ambient energy into electricity through various physical mechanisms, such as the photovoltaic effect, thermoelectricity, piezoelectricity, triboelectricity, and radiofrequency wireless power transfer. By bringing together the perspectives of experts in various types of energy harvesting materials, this Roadmap provides extensive insights into recent advances and present challenges in the field. Additionally, the Roadmap analyses the key performance metrics of these technologies in relation to their ultimate energy conversion limits. Building on these insights, the Roadmap outlines promising directions for future research to fully harness the potential of energy harvesting materials for green energy anytime, anywhere.

  • High performance p-i-n photodetectors on ge-on-insulator platform
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nanomaterials. - : MDPI AG. - 2079-4991. ; 11:5
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, we demonstrated novel methods to improve the performance of p-i-n photodetectors (PDs) on a germanium-on-insulator (GOI). For GOI photodetectors with a mesa diameter of 10 µm, the dark current at −1 V is 2.5 nA, which is 2.6-fold lower than that of the Ge PD processed on Si substrates. This improvement in dark current is due to the careful removal of the defected Ge layer, which is formed with the initial growth of Ge on Si. The bulk leakage current density and surface leakage density of the GOI detector at −1 V are as low as 1.79 mA/cm2 and 0.34 µA/cm, respectively. GOI photodetectors with responsivity of 0.5 and 0.9 A/W at 1550 and 1310 nm wavelength are demonstrated. The optical performance of the GOI photodetector could be remarkably improved by integrating a tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) layer on the oxide side due to the better optical confinement and resonant cavity effect. These PDs with high performances and full compatibility with Si CMOS processes are attractive for applications in both telecommunications and monolithic optoelectronics integration on the same chip.
