  • Kinetic temperature of massive star-forming molecular clumps measured with formaldehyde: IV. The ALMA view of N113 and N159W in the LMC
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Astronomy and Astrophysics. - : EDP Sciences. - 0004-6361 .- 1432-0746. ; 655
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We mapped the kinetic temperature structure of two massive star-forming regions, N113 and N159W, in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). We have used 1.6 (0.4 pc) resolution measurements of the para-H2CO JKaKc = 303-202, 322-221, and 321-220 transitions near 218.5 GHz to constrain RADEX non local thermodynamic equilibrium models of the physical conditions. The gas kinetic temperatures derived from the para-H2CO line ratios 322-221/303-202 and 321-220/303-202 range from 28 to 105 K in N113 and 29 to 68 K in N159W. Distributions of the dense gas traced by para-H2CO agree with those of the 1.3 mm dust and Spitzer 8.0 μm emission, but they do not significantly correlate with the Hα emission. The high kinetic temperatures (Tkin50 K) of the dense gas traced by para-H2CO appear to be correlated with the embedded infrared sources inside the clouds and/or young stellar objects in the N113 and N159W regions. The lower temperatures (Tkin < 50 K) were measured at the outskirts of the H2CO-bearing distributions of both N113 and N159W. It seems that the kinetic temperatures of the dense gas traced by para-H2CO are weakly affected by the external sources of the Hα emission. The non thermal velocity dispersions of para-H2CO are well correlated with the gas kinetic temperatures in the N113 region, implying that the higher kinetic temperature traced by para-H2CO is related to turbulence on a 0.4 pc scale. The dense gas heating appears to be dominated by internal star formation activity, radiation, and/or turbulence. It seems that the mechanism heating the dense gas of the star-forming regions in the LMC is consistent with that in Galactic massive star-forming regions located in the Galactic plane.

  • Unusually high corrosion resistance in MoxCrNiCo medium entropy alloy enhanced by acidity in aqueous solution
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Journal of Materials Science & Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 1005-0302. ; 139, s. 59-68
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High corrosion resistance of alloys is essential for their structural applications; however, most alloys suffer from degradation of their corrosion resistance with the increasing acidity of their surround-ings. Nonetheless, we developed a series of medium-entropy alloys (MEAs) in this work, which ex-hibit high strength, superior fracture toughness and ultra-high corrosion resistance, outperforming the variety of corrosion resistant alloys hitherto reported. Most interestingly, our MEAs exhibit an unusual anti-corrosion behavior and their corrosion resistance increases with acidity in Cl- containing solutions. Through extensive thermodynamic calculations, density functional theory (DFT) simulations and experi-ments, we reveal that the unusual anti-corrosion behavior of our MEAs can be attributed to their surface chemical complexity, which facilitates the physio-chemical-absorption of H2O and O 2 and thus the rapid formation of metastable medium entropy passive films that contain the lowest amount of defects, as compared to the passive films on conventional alloys reported in the literature.

  • Carbon flow through continental-scale ground logistics transportation
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: iScience. - : Elsevier BV. - 2589-0042. ; 26:1
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The flourishing logistics in both developed and emerging economies leads to huge greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; however, the emission fluxes are poorly constrained. Here, we constructed a spatial network of logistic GHG emissions based on multisource big data at continental scale. GHG emissions related to logistics transportation reached 112.14Mt CO2-equivalents (CO(2)e), with seven major urban agglomerations contributing 63% of the total emissions. Regions with short transport distances and well-developed road infrastructure had relatively high emission efficiency. Underlying value flow of the commodities is accompanied by logistics carbon flow along the supply chain. The main driving factors affecting GHG emissions are driving speed and gross domestic product. It may mitigate GHGemissions by 27.50-1162.75 Mt CO(2)e in 15 years if a variety of energy combinations or the appropriate driving speed (65-70 km/h) is adopted. The estimations are of great significance to make integrated management policies for the global logistics sector.

  • Storage ring at HIE-ISOLDE
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal: Special Topics. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1951-6401 .- 1951-6355. ; 207:1, s. 1-117
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose to install a storage ring at an ISOL-type radioactive beam facility for the first time. Specifically, we intend to setup the heavy-ion, low-energy ring TSR at the HIE-ISOLDE facility in CERN, Geneva. Such a facility will provide a capability for experiments with stored secondary beams that is unique in the world. The envisaged physics programme is rich and varied, spanning from investigations of nuclear ground-state properties and reaction studies of astrophysical relevance, to investigations with highly-charged ions and pure isomeric beams. The TSR might also be employed for removal of isobaric contaminants from stored ion beams and for systematic studies within the neutrino beam programme. In addition to experiments performed using beams recirculating within the ring, cooled beams can also be extracted and exploited by external spectrometers for high-precision measurements. The existing TSR, which is presently in operation at the Max-Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics in Heidelberg, is well-suited and can be employed for this purpose. The physics cases as well as technical details of the existing ring facility and of the beam and infrastructure requirements at HIE-ISOLDE are discussed in the present technical design report.

  • Abnormal guiding and filtering properties for some composite structures of right/left-handed metamaterials
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: Asia-Pacific Microwave Conference Proceedings, APMC. - 078039433X
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We study some abnormal guiding and filtering properties for some multi-layered structures consisting of right/left-handed metamaterials. The extremely slow propagation of guided waves in a slab waveguide with a left-handed material substrate is studied. Resonating and notch filters based on some composite right/left-handed (CRLH) transmission lines are also proposed.

  • Automatic real-time control for gain-flattened fiber Raman amplifiers
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Optics Communications. - : Elsevier BV. - 0030-4018 .- 1873-0310. ; 239:01-3, s. 79-84
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • An automatic control algorithm for flattening the gain of a fiber Raman amplifier is derived from the Raman scattering equations. A pseudo-inverse gain matrix is introduced to adjust the powers of the pump lasers. The algorithm is simple, fast, effective, robust and insensitive to the length and type of the fiber. It is demonstrated experimentally that the gain flattening for Raman amplifiers comprising various types and lengths of fiber and with different target gains can be achieved automatically with this algorithm. The algorithm converges for both small and large input signal. Flattened Raman gain with a fluctuation less than 0.40 dB over a 50-nm bandwidth for a 50-km SMF or less than 0.20 dB over a 40-nm bandwidth for a 6.6-km dispersion compensated fiber is realized in the experiment.

  • Thermodynamic assessment of the Al-C-Fe system
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Calphad. - : Elsevier. - 0364-5916 .- 1873-2984. ; 58, s. 34-49
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Al-C-Fe system was assessed in the framework of the CALPHAD approach. Through the critical review of thermochemical properties of liquid Al-Fe alloys, the binary Al-Fe description was revised to agree better with the experimental data. The partitioning model based on the Compound Energy Formalism (CEF) was utilized to describe the disordered and ordered bcc, fcc and κ phases. Moreover, ab initio calculations were performed to determine the enthalpies of formation of the ordered structures based on the bcc and fcc lattices in the binary Al-Fe and for the end-members of the κ phase in the ternary Al-C-Fe system. In order to simplify the database, the present work also employed a two-sublattice model to describe the B2 ordered phase in the Al-Fe system, which can be applied easily to diffusion simulations. Comprehensive comparison between the model-predicted and experimental data confirms that the present evaluation describe the Al-C-Fe system satisfactorily, especially the κ phase.

  • AGATA - Advanced GAmma Tracking Array
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research, Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment. - : Elsevier BV. - 0168-9002 .- 0167-5087 .- 1872-9576. ; 668, s. 26-58
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Advanced GAmma Tracking Array (AGATA) is a European project to develop and operate the next generation γ-ray spectrometer. AGATA is based on the technique of γ-ray energy tracking in electrically segmented high-purity germanium crystals. This technique requires the accurate determination of the energy, time and position of every interaction as a γ ray deposits its energy within the detector volume. Reconstruction of the full interaction path results in a detector with very high efficiency and excellent spectral response. The realisation of γ-ray tracking and AGATA is a result of many technical advances. These include the development of encapsulated highly segmented germanium detectors assembled in a triple cluster detector cryostat, an electronics system with fast digital sampling and a data acquisition system to process the data at a high rate. The full characterisation of the crystals was measured and compared with detector- response simulations. This enabled pulse-shape analysis algorithms, to extract energy, time and position, to be employed. In addition, tracking algorithms for event reconstruction were developed. The first phase of AGATA is now complete and operational in its first physics campaign. In the future AGATA will be moved between laboratories in Europe and operated in a series of campaigns to take advantage of the different beams and facilities available to maximise its science output. The paper reviews all the achievements made in the AGATA project including all the necessary infrastructure to operate and support the spectrometer. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

  • A Muscle Teleoperation System of a Robotic Rollator Based on Bilateral Shared Control
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: IEEE Access. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). - 2169-3536. ; 8, s. 151160-151170
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The approach that achieves the teleoperation between human muscle signals and the mobile robot is increasingly applied to transfer human muscle stiffness to enhance robotic performance. In this paper, we develop a mobile rollator control system applying a muscle teleoperation interface and a shared control method to enhance the obstacle avoidance in an effective way. In order to control intuitively, haptic feedback is utilized in the teleoperation interface and is integrated with EMG stiffness to provide a large composition force. Then the composition force is implemented with an artificial potential field method to keep the robotic rollator away from the obstacle in advance. This algorithm is superior to the traditional APF algorithm regardless of the required time and trajectory length. The experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed muscle teleoperation system.
