  • Combination of Tevatron Searches for the Standard Model Higgs Boson in the W+W- Decay Mode
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Letters. - 0031-9007 .- 1079-7114. ; 104:6, s. 061802-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We combine searches by the CDF and D0 Collaborations for a Higgs boson decaying to W+W-. The data correspond to an integrated total luminosity of 4.8 (CDF) and 5.4 (D0) fb(-1) of p (p) over bar collisions at root s = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider. No excess is observed above background expectation, and resulting limits on Higgs boson production exclude a standard model Higgs boson in the mass range 162-166 GeV at the 95% C.L.

  • Cosmology intertwined : A review of the particle physics, astrophysics, and cosmology associated with the cosmological tensions and anomalies
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of High Energy Astrophysics. - : Elsevier BV. - 2214-4048 .- 2214-4056. ; 34, s. 49-211
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The standard Λ Cold Dark Matter (ΛCDM) cosmological model provides a good description of a wide range of astrophysical and cosmological data. However, there are a few big open questions that make the standard model look like an approximation to a more realistic scenario yet to be found. In this paper, we list a few important goals that need to be addressed in the next decade, taking into account the current discordances between the different cosmological probes, such as the disagreement in the value of the Hubble constant H0, the σ8–S8 tension, and other less statistically significant anomalies. While these discordances can still be in part the result of systematic errors, their persistence after several years of accurate analysis strongly hints at cracks in the standard cosmological scenario and the necessity for new physics or generalisations beyond the standard model. In this paper, we focus on the 5.0σ tension between the Planck CMB estimate of the Hubble constant H0 and the SH0ES collaboration measurements. After showing the H0 evaluations made from different teams using different methods and geometric calibrations, we list a few interesting new physics models that could alleviate this tension and discuss how the next decade's experiments will be crucial. Moreover, we focus on the tension of the Planck CMB data with weak lensing measurements and redshift surveys, about the value of the matter energy density Ωm, and the amplitude or rate of the growth of structure (σ8,fσ8). We list a few interesting models proposed for alleviating this tension, and we discuss the importance of trying to fit a full array of data with a single model and not just one parameter at a time. Additionally, we present a wide range of other less discussed anomalies at a statistical significance level lower than the H0–S8 tensions which may also constitute hints towards new physics, and we discuss possible generic theoretical approaches that can collectively explain the non-standard nature of these signals. Finally, we give an overview of upgraded experiments and next-generation space missions and facilities on Earth that will be of crucial importance to address all these open questions.

  • Robotic fluidic coupling and interrogation of multiple vascularized organ chips
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nature Biomedical Engineering. - : Nature Research. - 2157-846X.
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Organ chips can recapitulate organ-level (patho)physiology, yet pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic analyses require multi-organ systems linked by vascular perfusion. Here, we describe an ‘interrogator’ that employs liquid-handling robotics, custom software and an integrated mobile microscope for the automated culture, perfusion, medium addition, fluidic linking, sample collection and in situ microscopy imaging of up to ten organ chips inside a standard tissue-culture incubator. The robotic interrogator maintained the viability and organ-specific functions of eight vascularized, two-channel organ chips (intestine, liver, kidney, heart, lung, skin, blood–brain barrier and brain) for 3 weeks in culture when intermittently fluidically coupled via a common blood substitute through their reservoirs of medium and endothelium-lined vascular channels. We used the robotic interrogator and a physiological multicompartmental reduced-order model of the experimental system to quantitatively predict the distribution of an inulin tracer perfused through the multi-organ human-body-on-chips. The automated culture system enables the imaging of cells in the organ chips and the repeated sampling of both the vascular and interstitial compartments without compromising fluidic coupling.

  • Internal specular reflection from nanoparticle layers on the end face of optical fibers
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: Journal of Applied Physics. - : AIP Publishing. - 0021-8979 .- 1089-7550. ; 109:10, s. 103114-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Metal nanoparticles deposited on a dielectric substrate exhibit an absorption peak due to localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR). Changes in the refractive index of the surrounding medium cause the LSPR band to shift in wavelength. In this paper, gold nanoparticles were placed on the end face of an optical fiber spliced to a reflection setup. As expected in reflection geometries, the back-reflected signal exhibits a dip at wavelengths in the LSPR band when the fiber tip is surrounded by ambient air (n = 1). However, as the refractive index of the surrounding medium is increased, there is a gradual inversion from a dip (n = 1.0) to a peak (n = 2.0). To explain these results, a model based on absorption and interference between the specular reflections from the fiber/nanoparticle and nanoparticle/ambient interfaces is proposed, showing that our reflection configuration can be used in sensing applications.

  • Spectral features of specular reflection from nanoparticle films
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: Physica Status Solidi. C, Current topics in solid state physics. - : Wiley. - 1610-1634 .- 1610-1642. ; 8:9, s. 2673-2675
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this work we analyze the internal reflection (Fresnel reflection) from Au nanoparticles on the end face of optical fibers. We demonstrate that changes in the refractive index of the surrounding medium can be detected by shifts in the reflection spectra associated with changes in the Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance of the Au-Nanoparticles. The spectral response is simulated using a model based on the interference in multilayer structures and can be described by transfer-matrix method.

  • Merits of Buried Grid Technology for Advanced SiC Device Concepts
  • 2011
  • Ingår i: GALLIUM NITRIDE AND SILICON CARBIDE POWER TECHNOLOGIES. - : The Electrochemical Society. - 9781607682622 ; , s. 155-162
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Selected examples of the use of buried grid technology for SiC devices are discussed. First example is development of normally-off and normally-on JFETs, Second the development of Schottky barrier diodes for 250 degrees C operation. Other examples are efficient junction termination and avalanche UV detectors. Experimental results are used in support of simulations.

  • High temperature capable SiC Schottky diodes, based on buried grid design
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: International Conference and Exhibition on High Temperature Electronics. ; , s. 158-160
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Electrical characteristics of 4H-SiC Schottky barrier diodes, based on buried grid design are presented. The diodes, rated to 1200V/10A and assembled into high temperature capable T0254 packages, have been tested and studied up to 250°C. Compared to conventional SiC Schottky diodes, Ascatron’s buried grid SiC Schottky diode demonstrates several orders of magnitude reduced leakage current at high temperature operation.
