  • Using existing infrastructures of high-speed railways for photovoltaic electricity generation
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Resources, Conservation and Recycling. - : Elsevier B.V.. - 0921-3449 .- 1879-0658. ; 178
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Cities worldwide are stepping up efforts to reshape their infrastructure to ensure a carbon-neutral and sustainable future, leading to the rapid electrification of transportation systems. The electricity demand of this sector, particularly that of high-speed railways, is increasing. Application of the existing infrastructures of railway stations and available land along rail lines for photovoltaic (PV) electricity generation has the potential to power high-speed bullet trains with renewable energy and supply surplus electricity to surrounding users. In this work, a methodology based on a geographic information system was established to evaluate the PV potential along rail lines and on the roofs of train stations. The Beijing-Shanghai high-speed railway (HSR) was used as a case study. Its total PV potential reached 5.65 GW (of which the station potential accounted for 264 MW, approximately 4.68%, of the total potential), with a lifelong generation capacity of 155 TWh, which corresponds to approximately 12% of the total new installed capacity of China in 2020. Although electricity prices and solar resources differed along the railway line, all PV systems were profitable. Moreover, a comparison between the electricity consumption and generation shows that the PV+HSR system can cover most of the electricity demand of the Beijing-Shanghai HSR without a storage system. This concept can be further expanded to other rail lines and stations. Within the context of global carbon peaks and carbon neutrality, the integration of PV and railway systems should be promoted.

  • The state of the art of search strategies in robotic assembly
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Journal of Industrial Information Integration. - : Elsevier BV. - 2467-964X .- 2452-414X. ; 26, s. 100259-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Assembly robots have been widely used in the manufacturing industry. However, performing precise assembly tasks still poses a great challenge for robots due to numerous sources of the uncertainties such as fixtures, end effectors, or actuators, and the most critical technical bottleneck is to find the best search strategy to improve positioning accuracy in assembling. Search strategies are evaluated in terms of executing time, precision, stability, and applicable geometries and features of parts. This review is highly motivated to gain the state of the art of search strategies and identify some technical means which can further improve existing algorithms. Without losing the generality of this review discussion, robotic assemblies for peg-in-hole (PiH) are focused. Search strategies are classified and discussed based on different criteria respectively such as the number and types of sensors, and the dimensions of search spaces. To tackle with the assembly operations in an ill-structured environment, a search strategy has to fuse and utilize the sensing data from multiple sources such as the integration of force sensing and vision, and the search strategies with the sensing cooperation are explored. As the conclusion, the future research directions on search strategies for automated assembling have been discussed.

  • Effects of P-based additives on agricultural biomass torrefaction and particulate matter emissions from fuel combustion
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Renewable energy. - : Elsevier BV. - 0960-1481 .- 1879-0682. ; 190, s. 66-77
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The large scale utilization of agricultural biomass as fuel is restricted by the feedstock properties of low energy density, high moisture content, heterogeneous composition and chemical impurities. In this work, torrefaction of biomass fuel with NH4H2PO4 additive was carried out to investigate the effects of NH4H2PO4 mixing ratio and torrefaction temperature on the properties of the torrefied fuel and particulate matter (PM) emission characteristics from combustion. The results show many benefits from NH4H2PO4 addition in biomass feedstock: 1) the removal of O and retention of C can be enhanced leading to lower mass and energy losses during torrefaction, 2) more Cl and S are released to gas phase leading to a lower absolute content of Cl and S in the torrefied fuel, and 3) the occurrence of alkali and alkaline earth metals change significantly. Moreover, the emissions of the fine particulate matters (PM1) from the torrefied fuels are clearly reduced when NH4H2PO4 is added and the reduction rate is closely related to P/K molar ratio with the maximum reduction rate achieved at P/K molar ratio equal to 1. These results suggest that the proposed method can effectively upgrade the fuel qualities and reduce PM1 emissions from the fuel combustion.

  • A ring-like accretion structure in M87 connecting its black hole and jet
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Nature. - 0028-0836 .- 1476-4687. ; 616:7958, s. 686-690
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The nearby radio galaxy M87 is a prime target for studying black hole accretion and jet formation1,2. Event Horizon Telescope observations of M87 in 2017, at a wavelength of 1.3 mm, revealed a ring-like structure, which was interpreted as gravitationally lensed emission around a central black hole3. Here we report images of M87 obtained in 2018, at a wavelength of 3.5 mm, showing that the compact radio core is spatially resolved. High-resolution imaging shows a ring-like structure of [Formula: see text] Schwarzschild radii in diameter, approximately 50% larger than that seen at 1.3 mm. The outer edge at 3.5 mm is also larger than that at 1.3 mm. This larger and thicker ring indicates a substantial contribution from the accretion flow with absorption effects, in addition to the gravitationally lensed ring-like emission. The images show that the edge-brightened jet connects to the accretion flow of the black hole. Close to the black hole, the emission profile of the jet-launching region is wider than the expected profile of a black-hole-driven jet, suggesting the possible presence of a wind associated with the accretion flow.

  • A promising new class of high-temperature alloys: Eutectic high-entropy alloys
  • 2014
  • Ingår i: Scientific Reports. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2045-2322 .- 2045-2322. ; 4, s. 6200-
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • High-entropy alloys (HEAs) can have either high strength or high ductility, and a simultaneous achievement of both still constitutes a tough challenge. The inferior castability and compositional segregation of HEAs are also obstacles for their technological applications. To tackle these problems, here we proposed a novel strategy to design HEAs using the eutectic alloy concept, i.e. to achieve a microstructure composed of alternating soft fcc and hard bcc phases. As a manifestation of this concept, an AlCoCrFeNi 2.1 (atomic portion) eutectic high-entropy alloy (EHEA) was designed. The as-cast EHEA possessed a fine lamellar fcc/B2 microstructure, and showed an unprecedented combination of high tensile ductility and high fracture strength at room temperature. The excellent mechanical properties could be kept up to 700°C. This new alloy design strategy can be readily adapted to large-scale industrial production of HEAs with simultaneous high fracture strength and high ductility.

  • Effects of electrode contact on geometry structure and transport properties of the graphene-based nanomolecule devices
  • 2010
  • Ingår i: INEC 2010 - 2010 3rd International Nanoelectronics Conference, Proceedings. - : IEEE. - 9781424435432 ; , s. 217-218
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A series of graphene-based nanomolecule devices are constructed by connecting the graphene nanodot to two Au electrodes through different bond length between the electrodes and molecules. The geometric structure and electronic properties are studied by using density functional theory calculations. Basing on the optimized structure, we calculate the quantum conductance of the system by using the Green's function method. We find that the geometry structures of the molecule and the transport properties are sensitive to the bond length dAu-H. The plane of carbon atoms increasingly bends with the decrease of the dAu-H. The ISD-V SD curves have the same threshold value under different d Au-H.

  • Promising properties and future trend of eutectic high entropy alloys
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Scripta Materialia. - : Elsevier BV. - 1359-6462. ; 187, s. 202-209
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Eutectic high-entropy alloys (EHEAs), as a sub-group of high-entropy alloys (HEAs), are becoming a new research hotspot in the metallic materials community because of their excellent castability, fine and uniform microstructures even in the as-cast state, high strength, and good ductility. Some of the EHEAs have shown promising potentials for industrial applications. Here, the history, interesting solidification microstructure and mechanical properties, and the design strategy of EHEAs are reviewed, and their future prospects are outlined.

  • Performance analysis of a photovoltaics aided coal-fired power plant
  • 2019
  • Ingår i: Energy Procedia. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 1876-6102. ; , s. 1348-1353
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this article, integration of photovoltaics (PV) into a coal-fired power plant was proposed. The performance including economic analysis and environmental impact was conducted by a case study in the northwest area of China. The results show that the PV system can replace part of auxiliary power consumption using renewable electricity to reduce internal power consumption and the emissions. Due to the feature of the integration into a power plant, the curtailment of solar PV electricity does not occur compared to stand-alone PV system. The investment cost, operation and maintenance (O&M) expenditure were feasible compared with other PV power generation plants.

  • Poster : Low latency networking for industry 4.0
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: International Conference on Embedded Wireless Systems and Networks. - : Junction Publishing. - 9780994988614 ; , s. 212-213
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Industry 4.0 poses a stringent delay requirement to the communication network. However, the current protocols cannot satisfy this requirement, as they are mainly designed to achieve high data rates rather than low latency. It is difficult to reduce the delay as the end-to-end delay is accumulated from every layer of the communication network, and the delay introduced by one layer may also be coupled with that from other layers. We analyze the different delay components and investigate the potential techniques that can help reduce one or multiple delay components. To support different latency requirement together with reliability and throughput requirements, the combination and the parameters of potential techniques should be designed in a coordinate way.

  • Authentication based on channel state information for industrial wireless communications
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Proceedings. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9781509066841 ; , s. 4125-4130
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Physical layer authentication based on channel state information is an effective solution to preventing spoofing attacks in wireless communications by comparing the channel impulse responses. Existing theoretical analyses and experiments have proved the feasibility and efficiency in labs or offices. However, the environment of industrial wireless communication is significantly different. This paper applies physical layer authentication based on channel state information to measurements from four different industrial wireless communication scenarios, including indoor, outdoor, moving, and stationary scenarios. The analysis of the results allows to derive meaningful insights on the applicability of such a method to industrial wireless communications.
