  • Active engagement of managers in employee RTW and manager-employee relationship : managers’ experiences of participating in a dialogue using the Demand and Ability Protocol
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Disability and Rehabilitation. - Abingdon : Taylor & Francis. - 0963-8288 .- 1464-5165. ; 45:26, s. 4394-4403
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Purpose: To describe how managers of employees on sick-leave, due to chronic pain conditions, experience participating in a three-party meeting using the Demand and Ability Protocol (DAP) in the return-to-work process.Materials and methods: This study is based on individual semi-structured interviews with 17 managers of employees with chronic pain. Interviews were conducted after participating in a three-party meeting including the employee, manager, and a representative from the rehabilitation team. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis with an inductive approach. Results: Two main themes were identified–“to converse with a clear structure and setup” and “to be involved in the employee’s rehabilitation.” The first theme describe experiences from the conversation, and the second theme reflected the managers’ insights when being involved in the employee’s rehabilitation. The themes comprise 11 sub-themes describing how the DAP conversation and the manager′s involvement in the rehabilitation may influence the manager, the manager-employee relationship, and the organization. Conclusions: This study show, from a manager's perspective, how having a dialogue with a clear structure and an active involvement in the employee’s rehabilitation may be beneficial for the manager-employee relationship. Insights from participating in the DAP may also be beneficial for the organization.IMPLICATIONS FOR REHABILITATION* A structured dialogue between the employee, employer, and rehabilitation supports the return to work (RTW) process* A structured dialogue and collaboration may strengthen the relationship between the manager and employee* An active engagement of managers in the employeès RTW process is beneficial for the manager-employee relationship, and for the organisation* Healthcare professionals should collaborate with the workplace to promote participation of managers. © 2022 The Author(s). • Guaranteed periodic real-time communication over wormhole switched networks
  • 2000
  • Ingår i: Parallel and distributed computing systems. - Raleigh, NC : INTERNATIONAL SOCIETY COMPUTERS & THEIR APPLICATIONS (ISCA). - 188084334X ; , s. 632-639
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this paper, we investigate how to efficiently implement TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) on a wormhole switched network using a pure software solution in the end nodes. Transmission is conflict free on the time-slot level and hence deadlock free. On the sub- slot level, however, conflicts are possible when using early sending, a method we propose in order to reduce latency while still not hazarding the TDMA schedule. We propose a complete system to offer services for dynamic establishment of guaranteed periodic real-time virtual channels. Two different clock synchronization approaches for integration into the TDMA system are discussed. Implementation and experimental studies have been done on a cluster of PCs connected by a Myrinet network. Also, a case study with a radar signal processing application is presented to show the usability. A best-case reduction of the latency of up to 37 percent for 640 Byte messages by using early sending in Myrinet is shown in the case study. Source routed wormhole switching networks are assumed in the work but the results are applicable on some other categories of switched networks too.

  • Customer Service process IT-enabled support Fit or misfit? - A real world case
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of 31th Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia. - : IRIS. - 9789186073121 ; , s. 22-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper is a description of a real world case which focuses on a method to define the major gaps between functional requirements and existing support in a traditional ERP system. To identify and define the major gaps the method is using short interviews, existing documentation and graphic process diagrams. The report covers the process Customer Contact – Order Acknowledgement for a global chemicals manufacturer, Perstorp. The group in focus for this study is Customer Service. The results of this case were presented to Perstorp’s Customer Service as well as IT management as background material to assess improvement possibilities for both processes, IT support and for a new ERP strategy. Many other businesses are in similar situations. The aim in publishing this research paper is that these findings can be of practical use to other businesses as well as be an empirical foundation for other papers and possibly further research.

  • Embedded sacrificial AlAs segments in GaAs nanowires for substrate reuse
  • 2020
  • Ingår i: Nanotechnology. - Bristol : Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). - 0957-4484 .- 1361-6528. ; 31:20
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We report on the use of a sacrificial AlAs segment to enable substrate reuse for nanowire synthesis. A silicon nitride template was deposited on a p-type GaAs substrate. Then a pattern was transferred to the substrate by nanoimprint lithography and reactive ion etching. Thermal evaporation was used to define Au seed particles. Metalorganic vapour phase epitaxy was used to grow AlAs-GaAs NWs in the vapour-liquid-solid growth mode. The yield of synthesised nanowires, compared to the number expected from the patterned template, was more than 80%. After growth, the nanowires were embedded in a polymer and mechanically removed from the parent substrate. The parent substrate was then immersed in an HCl:H2O (1:1) mixture to dissolve the remaining stub of the sacrificial AlAs segment. The pattern fidelity was preserved after peeling off the nanowires and cleaning, and the semiconductor surface was flat and ready for reuse. Au seed particles were then deposited on the substrate by use of pulse electrodeposition, which was selective to the openings in the growth template, and then nanowires were regrown. The yield of regrowth was less optimal compared to the first growth but the pattern was preserved. Our results show a promising approach to reduce the final cost of III-V nanowire based solar cells. © 2020 The Author(s). Published by IOP Publishing Ltd.

  • An evaluation of business process model techniques, using Moody’s quality criterion for a good diagram
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: BIR 2012: Emerging Topics in Business Informatics Research 2012. - Aachen : Rheinisch-Westfaelische Technische Hochschule Aachen, Lehrstuhl Informatik V. ; , s. 54-64
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Complex processes have become more common and include, for example, knowledge workers ie people who work with more complex and problematic tasks. Our interest is to better understand how a problematic and complex situation in an organization should be model. Four major process oriented modeling techniques has been analyzed using Moody’s quality criterion for what makes a good model. The findings indicate that there are only one candidate, BPMN, that meets some of Moody’s quality criterion, but there are also weaknesses in BPMN, such as for the criterions; expressiveness and emphasis.

  • Graphical modeling techniques and usefulness in the Model Driven Arcitechture : Which are the criteria for a "good" Computer independent model?
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of The 31st Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia (IRIS31). - : IRIS. - 9789186073121 ; , s. 13-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The Object Management Group (OMG) has presented a framework for model driven development: Model Driven Architecture (MDA). The departure point of this paper is an interest in process oriented modeling techniques relevant for a computer independent model in the MDA. We searched for the answer on the question what constitutes a "good" computer independent model (CIM). To get an answer we were using OMG:s demands of the modeling techniques that should be used when developing CIMs and found four process oriented modeling techniques which could serve as candidates. These four process oriented modeling techniques is analyzed based by Moody"s quality criterions. The findings indicates that there are only one candidate, BPMN, that meets some of Moody"s quality criterions, but there also drawbacks in BPMN, such as the criterions; expressiveness and emphasis.

  • Nurses' assessments and patients' perceptions : development of the night nursing care instrument (NNCI), measuring nursing care at night
  • 2005
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Nursing Studies. - Amsterdam : Elsevier. - 0020-7489 .- 1873-491X. ; 42:5, s. 569-78
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: Nursing care provided at night has a different purpose and objective to that provided during the day. A review of the literature does not reveal any scientifically tested research instruments for evaluating and comparing the nurse's assessment of nursing care with the patient's perception at night.Aims and objectives: The aim of this study was to develop and test an instrument for evaluating nursing care and to compare nurses' assessments with patients' perceptions of nursing care provided at night.Design: The study was carried out in two phases; the first had an explorative design and the second an evaluative and comparative design. The Night Nursing Care Instrument (NNCI) included two questionnaires; one for nurses and one for patients. These questionnaires were developed from a nursing framework and covered the following three areas:,nursing interventions', 'medical interventions' and 'evaluation'.Methods:Nurses (n = 40) on night duty on a medical ward at a central hospital in southern Sweden were consecutively selected, to participate in the study. The patients (n = 80) were selected by means of convenience sampling. In order to achieve construct validity, factor analysis of each individual area was carried out. Reliability in terms of internal consistency was tested by Cronbach's alpha. Results: The overall NNCI had acceptable reliability and validity. There was no statistically significant difference between nurses' assessments and patients' perceptions in any of the three areas of 'nursing interventions', 'medical interventions' or 'evaluation'. The patients rated night nursing care as satisfactory for the majority of the items. Relevance to clinical practice: These findings demonstrate that it is possible to create a short instrument with acceptable reliability and validity, which is easy to use in clinical practice. The results also show that night nurses need to improve their ability to assess patients' needs during the night to increase the quality of night nursing care.

  • Minimizing the time spent on transformations between computer independent models and platform independent models
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of The 31st Information Systems Research Seminar in Scandinavia (IRIS31). - : IRIS. - 9789186073121 ; , s. 12-
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • A well known trade-off effect with modelling is that when it is user friendly it becomes ambiguous and when it has a formal notation, that makes it unambiguous, it becomes less user friendly. A well known solution to this dilemma is to use models on various levels of formalism where the least formalized models are known to be more user friendly and the most formalized models are well suited for being directly translated to program code. This article investigates how the user friendliness at an informal level can be combined with the accuracy needed at a more formal level of modeling. It aims at combining an informal user friendly perspective with a formal developer perspective in order to minimize the time spent on transformation mapping between user friendly models and developer models. Theoretical data and empirical data indicates possibilities of minimizing the work with transformations between models. The results show that a number of developed criteria can be used to secure the user friendliness of models that are used in communications between the designer and the end user.
