  • Particle physics at the European Spallation Source
  • 2023
  • Ingår i: Physics reports. - : Elsevier. - 0370-1573 .- 1873-6270. ; 1023, s. 1-84
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Presently under construction in Lund, Sweden, the European Spallation Source (ESS) will be the world’s brightest neutron source. As such, it has the potential for a particle physics program with a unique reach and which is complementary to that available at other facilities. This paper describes proposed particle physics activities for the ESS. These encompass the exploitation of both the neutrons and neutrinos produced at the ESS for high precision (sensitivity) measurements (searches).

  • Six-week follow-up after HIV-1 exposure: a position statement from the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the Swedish Reference Group for Antiviral Therapy
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Infectious Diseases. - : Informa UK Limited. - 2374-4235 .- 2374-4243. ; 48:2, s. 93-98
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In 2014 the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the Swedish Reference Group for Antiviral Therapy (RAV) conducted a review and analysis of the state of knowledge on the duration of follow-up after exposure to human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Up until then a follow-up of 12 weeks after exposure had been recommended, but improved tests and new information on early diagnosis motivated a re-evaluation of the national recommendations by experts representing infectious diseases and microbiology, county medical officers, the RAV, the Public Health Agency, and other national authorities. Based on the current state of knowledge the Public Health Agency of Sweden and the RAV recommend, starting in April 2015, a follow-up period of 6 weeks after possible HIV-1 exposure, if HIV testing is performed using laboratory-based combination tests detecting both HIV antibody and antigen. If point-of-care rapid HIV tests are used, a follow-up period of 8 weeks is recommended, because currently available rapid tests have insufficient sensitivity for detection of HIV-1 antigen. A follow-up period of 12 weeks is recommended after a possible exposure for HIV-2, since presently used assays do not include HIV-2 antigens and only limited information is available on the development of HIV antibodies during early HIV-2 infection. If pre- or post-exposure prophylaxis is administered, the follow-up period is recommended to begin after completion of prophylaxis. Even if infection cannot be reliably excluded before the end of the recommended follow-up period, HIV testing should be performed at first contact for persons who seek such testing.

  • Measurement of Lambda baryon polarization in e(+) e(-) -> Lambda(Lambda)over-bar at root s=3.773 GeV
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Physical Review D. - : American Physical Society. - 2470-0010 .- 2470-0029. ; 105:1
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Using a data sample of psi(3770) events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 2.9 fb-1, we report a measurement of A spin polarization in e+ e- -> Lambda(Lambda) over bar at = root s = 3.773 GeV. The significance of polarization is found to be 2 sigma including the systematic uncertainty, which implies a zero phase between the transition amplitudes of the Lambda(Lambda) over bar helicity states. This phase can be interpreted in terms of psionic form factors, and is determined to be Delta Phi(Psi) = Phi(Psi)(E) - Phi(Psi)(M) = (71(-46)(+66) +/- 5)degrees. Similarly, the ratio between the form factors is found to be R-psi = vertical bar G(E)(Psi)/G(M)(Psi)vertical bar = 0.48(-0.35)(+0.21) +/- 0.03. The first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic.

  • 2010
  • Ingår i: European Physical Journal C. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1434-6044 .- 1434-6052. ; 68:3-4, s. 619-681
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Investigation at a f-factory can shed light on several debated issues in particle physics. We discuss: (i) recent theoretical development and experimental progress in kaon physics relevant for the Standard Model tests in the flavor sector, (ii) the sensitivity we can reach in probing CPT and Quantum Mechanics from time evolution of entangled-kaon states, (iii) the interest for improving on the present measurements of non-leptonic and radiative decays of kaons and eta/eta' mesons, (iv) the contribution to understand the nature of light scalar mesons, and (v) the opportunity to search for narrow di-lepton resonances suggested by recent models proposing a hidden dark-matter sector. We also report on the e(+)e(-) physics in the continuum with the measurements of (multi) hadronic cross sections and the study of gamma gamma processes.

  • Regulating and Cultural Ecosystem Services of Urban Green Infrastructure in the Nordic Countries : A Systematic Review
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. - : MDPI AG. - 1661-7827 .- 1660-4601. ; 18:3
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden), the Urban Green Infrastructure (UGI) has been traditionally targeted at reducing flood risk. However, other Ecosystem Services (ES) became increasingly relevant in response to the challenges of urbanization and climate change. In total, 90 scientific articles addressing ES considered crucial contributions to the quality of life in cities are reviewed. These are classified as (1) regulating ES that minimize hazards such as heat, floods, air pollution and noise, and (2) cultural ES that promote well-being and health. We conclude that the planning and design of UGI should balance both the provision of ES and their side effects and disservices, aspects that seem to have been only marginally investigated. Climate-sensitive planning practices are critical to guarantee that seasonal climate variability is accounted for at high-latitude regions. Nevertheless, diverging and seemingly inconsistent findings, together with gaps in the understanding of long-term effects, create obstacles for practitioners. Additionally, the limited involvement of end users points to a need of better engagement and communication, which in overall call for more collaborative research. Close relationships and interactions among different ES provided by urban greenery were found, yet few studies attempted an integrated evaluation. We argue that promoting interdisciplinary studies is fundamental to attain a holistic understanding of how plant traits affect the resulting ES; of the synergies between biophysical, physiological and psychological processes; and of the potential disservices of UGI, specifically in Nordic cities.

  • Light-induced charge separation in ruthenium based triads : New variations on an old theme
  • 2007
  • Ingår i: Inorganica Chimica Acta. - : Elsevier BV. - 0020-1693 .- 1873-3255. ; 360:3, s. 741-750
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Success with artificial photosynthesis requires control of the photoinduced electron transfer reactions leading to charge-separated states. In this review, some new ideas to optimize such charge-separated states in ruthenium(II) polypyridyl based three-component systems with respect to: (1) long lifetimes and (2) ability to store sufficient energy for catalytic water splitting, are presented. To form long-lived charge-separated states, a manganese complex as electron donor and potential catalyst for water oxidation has been used. The recombination reaction is unusually slow because it occurs deep down in the Marcus normal region as a consequence of the large bond reorganization following the manganese oxidation. For the creation of high energy charge-separated states, a strategy using bichromophoric systems is presented. By consecutive excitations of the two chromophores, the formation of charge-separated states that lie higher in energy than either of the two excited states could in theory be achieved, the first results of which will be discussed in this review.

  • Late-stage C-H functionalization offers new opportunities in drug discovery
  • 2021
  • Ingår i: Nature Reviews Chemistry. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 2397-3358. ; 5:8, s. 522-545
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Over the past decade, the landscape of molecular synthesis has gained major impetus by the introduction of late-stage functionalization (LSF) methodologies. C-H functionalization approaches, particularly, set the stage for new retrosynthetic disconnections, while leading to improvements in resource economy. A variety of innovative techniques have been successfully applied to the C-H diversification of pharmaceuticals, and these key developments have enabled medicinal chemists to integrate LSF strategies in their drug discovery programmes. This Review highlights the significant advances achieved in the late-stage C-H functionalization of drugs and drug-like compounds, and showcases how the implementation of these modern strategies allows increased efficiency in the drug discovery process. Representative examples are examined and classified by mechanistic patterns involving directed or innate C-H functionalization, as well as emerging reaction manifolds, such as electrosynthesis and biocatalysis, among others. Structurally complex bioactive entities beyond small molecules are also covered, including diversification in the new modalities sphere. The challenges and limitations of current LSF methods are critically assessed, and avenues for future improvements of this rapidly expanding field are discussed. We, hereby, aim to provide a toolbox for chemists in academia as well as industrial practitioners, and introduce guiding principles for the application of LSF strategies to access new molecules of interest.
