  • Generating Multimode Entangled Microwaves with a Superconducting Parametric Cavity
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Physical Review Applied. - 2331-7019. ; 10:4
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We demonstrate the generation of multimode entangled states of propagating microwaves. The entangled states are generated by our parametrically pumping a multimode superconducting cavity. By combining different pump frequencies, applied simultaneously to the device, we can produce different entanglement structures in a programable fashion. The Gaussian output states are fully characterized by our measuring the full covariance matrices of the modes. The covariance matrices are absolutely calibrated by our using an in situ microwave calibration source, a shot-noise tunnel junction. Applying a variety of entanglement measures, we demonstrate both full inseparability and genuine tripartite entanglement of the states. Our method is easily extensible to more modes.

  • Appetite and Subsequent Food Intake Were Unaffected by the Amount of Sourdough and Rye in Soft Bread-A Randomized Cross-Over Breakfast Study
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Nutrients. - : MDPI AG. - 2072-6643 .- 2072-6643. ; 10:11
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Sourdough fermented bread has been suggested to have beneficial health effects, in part mediated by increased satiety in the postprandial phase, but only limited research has been conducted to verify this. The current study aimed to investigate the effect of the amounts of sourdough and rye in soft bread on postprandial appetite. On 6 occasions, 23 healthy volunteers consumed 5 different test breads, with varying amount of rye and sourdough, and a yeast-fermented refined wheat control bread as part of a breakfast meal. The sourdough ranged between 9⁻51% of dough weight and rye content between 35⁻48% of flour weight. Appetite was recorded using visual analogue scales from immediately before breakfast and every 30 min the following 4 h. An ad libitum lunch was served 4 h after the breakfast meal, from which voluntary energy intake was measured. While some of the test breads resulted in lower hunger ratings and increased sense of fullness compared to the refined wheat bread, there were no differences between the test breads. The content of rye in the test breads differed within a narrow range, which might explain the lack of a consistent effect of rye on appetite. Microstructural examination of the test breads showed an increased aggregation of proteins in the breads with high content of sourdough, indicating additional changes to the breads, beyond change in pH, which may counteract the potential effect of decreased pH in the bread on appetite. In conclusion, our study does not support an effect of sourdough on appetite and ad libitum food intake.

  • Larger particle size of oat bran inhibits degradation and lowers extractability of β-glucan in sourdough bread – Potential implications for cholesterol-lowering properties in vivo
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Food Hydrocolloids. - : Elsevier BV. - 0268-005X .- 1873-7137. ; 77, s. 49-56
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Increased digesta viscosity is considered the mechanism underlying the cholesterol-lowering effect of oat β-glucan. Viscosity is mainly related to the molecular weight and concentration of solubilized β-glucan in the digesta and these should therefore be maintained at sufficiently high levels. Bread that includes oat bran is a potential source of β-glucan, but the baking process leads to degradation by β-glucanases present in the flours. In the current study, we investigated the effect of fermentation time as well as of particle size and content of oat bran in breads on the molecular weight, solubility and extract viscosity of β-glucan. Furthermore, we estimated the potential of the breads to have a cholesterol-lowering effect by comparison of molecular weight, solubility and extract viscosity of β-glucan with those of products known to have an effect in vivo. Longer fermentation time and smaller particles were found to lead to lower molecular weight of β-glucan. However, smaller particles also increased its extractability, leading to an overall increase in extract viscosities compared with coarse particles. Bread with the inclusion of 30% finely-milled, but not coarse oat bran was found to induce extract viscosity with the potential of producing a cholesterol-lowering effect despite more degraded β-glucan.

  • A Comparison of Inject-on-Read and Inject-on-Write in ISA-Level Fault Injection
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Proceedings - 2015 11th European Dependable Computing Conference, EDCC 2015. - : Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Inc.. - 9781467392891 ; , s. 178-189, s. 178-189
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ISA-level fault injection, i.e. the injection of bit-flip faults in Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) registers and main memory words, is widely used for studying the impact of transient and intermittent hardware faults in computer systems. This paper compares two techniques for ISA-level fault injection: inject-on-read, and inject-on-write. The first technique injects bit-flips in a data-item (the content of a register or memory word) just before the data-item is read by a machine instruction, while the second one injects bit-flips in a data-item just after it has been updated by a machine instruction. In addition, the paper compares two variants of inject-on-read, one where all faults are given the same weight and one where weight factors are used to reflect the time a data-item spends in a register or memory word. The weighted injected-on-read aims to accurately model soft errors that occur when an ionizing particle perturbs a data-item while it resides in an ISA register or a memory word. This is in contrast to inject-on-write, which emulates errors that propagate into an ISA register or a memory word. Our experiments show significant differences in the results obtained with the three techniques.

  • Light-weight techniques for improving the controllability and efficiency of ISA-level fault injection tools
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of IEEE Pacific Rim International Symposium on Dependable Computing, PRDC. - : IEEE Computer Society. - 1541-0110. - 9781509056514 - 9781509056521 ; , s. 68-77
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • ISA-level fault injection, i.e. the injection of bitflip faults in Instruction Set Architecture (ISA) registers and main memory words, is widely used for studying the impact of transient and intermittent hardware faults. ISA-level fault injection tools can be characterized by different properties such as repeatability, observability, reachability, intrusiveness, efficiency and controllability. This paper presents two preinjection analysis techniques that improve controllability and efficiency using object code analysis. To improve controllability, we propose a technique for identifying the type of data that is stored in a potential target location. This allows the user to selectively direct fault injections to addresses, data and/or control information. Experimental results show that the data type of 84-100% of the targets locations in 8 programs were successfully identified by this technique. The second technique improves efficiency by fault pruning, i.e., by avoiding injection of faults that is known a priori to be detected by the tested system. This technique leverage the fact that faults in certain bits in the program counter and the stack pointer are always detected by machine exceptions. We show that exclusion of these bits from the fault space could significantly prune the fault space and reduce the time it takes to conduct a fault injection campaign.

  • Simple, robust, and on-demand generation of single and correlated photons
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Physical Review A - Atomic, Molecular, and Optical Physics. - 2469-9926 .- 2469-9934. ; 93:6
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We propose two different setups to generate single photons on demand using an atom in front of a mirror, along with either a beam splitter or a tunable coupling. We show that photon-generation efficiency of ?99% is straightforward to achieve. The proposed schemes are simple and easily tunable in frequency. The operation is relatively insensitive to dephasing and can be easily extended to generate correlated pairs of photons. They can also, in principle, be used to generate any photonic qubit of the form ?0+?1 in arbitrary wave packets, making them very attractive for quantum communication applications.

  • Microwave photon generation in a doubly tunable superconducting resonator
  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Journal of Physics: Conference Series. - : IOP Publishing. - 1742-6588 .- 1742-6596. ; 969:1
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have created a doubly tunable resonator, with the intention to simulate relativistic motion of the resonator boundaries in real space. Our device is a superconducting coplanar-waveguide microwave resonator, with fundamental resonant frequency ω 1 / (2 π ) ~ 5 GHz. Both of its ends are terminated to ground via dc-SQUIDs, which serve as magnetic-flux-controlled inductances. Applying a flux to either SQUID allows the tuning of ω 1 / (2 π ) by approximately 700 MHz. Using two separate on-chip magnetic-flux lines, we modulate the SQUIDs with two tones of equal frequency, close to 2 ω 1 . We observe photon generation, at ω 1 , above a certain pump amplitude threshold. By varying the relative phase of the two pumps we are able to control this threshold, in good agreement with a theoretical model. At the same time, some of our observations deviate from the theoretical predictions, which we attribute to parasitic couplings resulting in current driving of the SQUIDs
