  • Arrangement for Frequency Planning in Cellular Systems
  • 1999
  • Patent (populärvet., debatt m.m.)abstract
    • The invention relates to an arrangement for frequency planning in cellular systems using a mix of wide and narrow antenna beams. The arrangement employs a dual frequency reuse for the respective wide and narrow antenna beams. According to the invention, a first frequency group is allocated to a cluster with a reuse distance sufficient for narrow beam channels and a second frequency group is allocated to a larger cluster with a reuse distance sufficent for wide beam channels. The second frequency group is a subdivision of and contained in the first frequency group. The second frequency group is the only frequency group available for wide beam channels, while all the frequencies of the two groups are available for the narrow beams channels. Generally, the wide beams are used for control channels and the narrow beams are used for traffic channels. A frequency planning in accordance with the invention makes it possible to use narrow beam traffic channels more efficiently compared to known state of the art methods which results in improved trunking efficiency.

  • Uncomplicated Mason type-II and III fractures of the radial head and neck in adults. A long-term follow-up study.
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. American Volume. - 1535-1386. ; 86-A:3, s. 569-574
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence and the long-term results of closed uncomplicated Mason type-II and III fractures in a defined population of adults. Methods: Seventy women and thirty men who were a mean of forty-seven years old when they sustained a fracture of the radial head or neck (a Mason type-II fracture in seventy-six patients and a Mason type-III fracture in twenty-four) were reexamined after a mean of nineteen years. Radiographic signs of degenerative changes of the elbow were recorded. The fracture had been treated with an elastic bandage or a collar and cuff sling with mobilization for forty-four individuals, with cast immobilization for thirty-four, with resection of the radial head in nineteen, with open reduction of the radial head in two, and with a collateral ligament repair in one. Secondary excision of the radial head was performed because of residual pain in nine patients, and a neurolysis of the ulnar nerve was performed in one patient. Results: Seventy-seven individuals had no symptoms in the injured elbow at the time of follow-up, twenty-one had occasional pain, and two had daily pain. The injured elbows had a slight flexion deficit compared with the uninjured elbows (mean and standard deviation, 138° ± 8° compared with 140° ± 7°) as well as a small extension deficit (mean and standard deviation, –4° ± 8° compared with –1° ± 6°) (p < 0.001 for both). The prevalence of degenerative changes was higher in the injured elbows than in the uninjured ones (76% compared with 16%, p < 0.001). Conclusions: The results following uncomplicated Mason type-II and III fractures are predominantly favorable. A secondary radial head resection is usually effective for patients with an unfavorable outcome (predominantly long-standing pain). Levels of Evidence: Therapeutic study, Level IV (case series [no, or historical, control group]). See Instructions to Authors for a complete description of levels of evidence.

  • The quality assurance process for the ARTSCAN head and neck study - a practical interactive approach for QA in 3DCRT and IMRT.
  • 2008
  • Ingår i: Radiotherapy and oncology : journal of the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0167-8140 .- 1879-0887. ; 87:2, s. 290-9
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • AIM: This paper describes the quality assurance (QA) work performed in the Swedish multicenter ARTSCAN (Accelerated RadioTherapy of Squamous cell CArcinomas in the head and Neck) trial to guarantee high quality in a multicenter study which involved modern radiotherapy such as 3DCRT or IMRT. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was closed in June 2006 with 750 randomised patients. Radiation therapy-related data for every patient were sent by each participating centre to the QA office where all trial data were reviewed, analysed and stored. In case of any deviation from the protocol, an interactive process was started between the QA office and the local responsible clinician and/or physicist to increase the compliance to the protocol for future randomised patients. Meetings and workshops were held on a regular basis for discussions on various trial-related issues and for the QA office to report on updated results. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: This review covers the 734 patients out of a total of 750 who had entered the study. Deviations early in the study were corrected so that the overall compliance to the protocol was very high. There were only negligible variations in doses and dose distributions to target volumes for each specific site and stage. The quality of the treatments was high. Furthermore, an extensive database of treatment parameters was accumulated for future dose-volume vs. endpoint evaluations. CONCLUSIONS: This comprehensive QA programme increased the probability to draw firm conclusions from our study and may serve as a concept for QA work in future radiotherapy trials where comparatively small effects are searched for in a heterogeneous tumour population.
