  • Effects of different handling systems on pig feed quality
  • 1982
  • Ingår i: Animal Feed Science and Technology. - : Elsevier BV. - 0377-8401 .- 1873-2216. ; 7:1, s. 11-26
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Separation of feed mixtures and its effect on the production traits of growing-finishing pigs was studied in three experiments. In Experiments I and II the effects of different types of equipment to prevent separation in a silo were studied. Experiment III dealt with separation along a feed transport chain. Experiments I and II clearly demonstrated an increase in feed quality variation by filling a silo without any arrangement to reduce separation. The last feed to be extracted from a silo filled in this manner showed an increasing amount of small particles and contents of crude fibre and ash, a decrease in the bulk density and also in the digestibility of nutrients and in the performance of the pigs. Filling a silo equipped with chutes by an auger or pneumatically through a cyclone did not create separation problems, and consequently there were no differences between these treatments in the production experiments. Separation measured by particle size, bulk density or chemical composition was not noticeable along the feed transport chain (Experiment III). There was no effect on performance of the pigs of their location along the chain. © 1982.

  • A magnetic phase transition studied with high TC SQUIDs
  • 1998
  • Ingår i: Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials. - 0304-8853 .- 1873-4766. ; 177, s. 519-520
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • We have used high-Tc SQUIDs to study the phase transition in a film of Mn3O4. The film was positioned on top of the SQUID, and the temperature of the film and the SQUID was varied in the range 30-60 K. By monitoring the voltage at the SQUID output we were able to observe a reproducable shift in the SQUID response in the range 30-50 K. This shift is related to the transition from the paramagnetic to the ferrimagnetic state of the Mn3O4 film.

  • Introduction of the COST FP 1303 Cooperative Performance Test
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: Proceedings of the 46th IRG Annual Meeting.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • COST Action FP 1303 “Performance of bio-based building materials” successfully started in October 2013 and an ambitious program was set up for the four year programme. COST Actions provide an excellent opportunity for collaborative research, e.g. in the frame of Round Robin tests. The idea of this respective test was to distribute a fairly simple test set up to as many places in Europe as possible in order to collect performance data reflecting the range of climatic exposure conditions. Furthermore we wanted to consider performance in its manifold meaning, i.e. optical, aesthetical, moisture and functional performance and durability. In contrast to traditional Round Robin tests aiming on comparative evaluation and validation of results from different test laboratories, this initiative aims on collecting performance data under climatically different exposure conditions. Therefore it was required to provide weather data from the respective test sites to allow establishing relationships between climate conditions and the following measured, which shall be evaluated regularly: decay, discolouration, development of mould and other staining fungi, corrosion, formation of cracks and moisture performance (if data logging device is included). Further details about the test and the first outcomes are presented in this paper.

  • Injecting different types of biomass products to the blast furnace and their impacts on the CO2 emission reduction
  • 2015
  • Ingår i: AISTech - Iron and Steel Technology Conference Proceedings. - : Association for Iron and Steel Technology, AISTECH. - 9781935117476 ; , s. 1525-1535
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Recent years more research has been focusing on utilizing biomass in the blast furnaces (BFs). One driving force is linked to the climate change mitigation, i.e. to reduce CO2 emission from fossil reducing agents or fuels, by using biomass. The amounts of biomass that could be utilized in BF is limited by different parameters, such as metallurgical properties of reducing agents, fuel properties such as volatile content, fixed carbon and oxygen content, ash chemistry (S, Na2O, K2O, etc.). In this paper, different types of biomass products in the form of solid, liquid and gas are investigated as injectants to the blast furnace. The modelling work has been done for a BF from a Nordic country. The possible amounts of injected biomass products are presented. With the replacement ratios of pulverized coal (PC), the potential CO2emission reduction when injecting different biomass products is quantified. In addition, the strategy of using biomass at the studied iron-making plant is discussed. AISTech 2015 Proceedings

  • Impact of shear displacement on advective transport in a laboratory-scale fracture
  • 2022
  • Ingår i: Geomechanics for Energy and the Environment. - : Elsevier Ltd. - 2352-3808. ; 31
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The impact of shear displacement under different mechanical boundary conditions on fluid flow and advective transport in a single fracture at the laboratory scale is demonstrated in the present study. The shear-induced changes of fracture aperture structures are determined by using the measured normal displacements and digitalized fracture surfaces from laboratory shear tests. Five shear tests on concrete replicas of the same fracture under different mechanical boundary conditions, including constant normal loading (CNL) and constant normal stiffness (CNS), are conducted to analyse the influence of mechanical boundary conditions on the shear-flow-transport processes. Fluid flow in the fracture with different shear displacements are simulated by solving the Reynolds equation. The Lagrangian particle tracking method is applied to model the advective transport in the fracture after shearing. The results generally show that the shear displacements and the normal loading conditions can significantly affect flow patterns and advective travel time distributions in the fracture. For mated fractures, the flow and transport will be enhanced by the increasing shear displacement because of shear dilation. For cases with the same shear displacement, the median advective travel time increases with the increasing boundary normal stiffness. The median advective travel time under the CNS boundary condition is generally longer than that under the CNL boundary condition. The results from this study can help to improve our understanding of stress-dependent solute transport processes in natural rock fractures. © 2021 The Author(s)
