  • Performance indices and objectives for microgrids
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: CIRED 20th International Conference on Electricity Distribution. - Red Hook, NY : Curran Associates, Inc.. - 9781615675227
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • This paper gives recommendations to researchers and developers on how to evaluate the performance of microgrids during island operation. A microgrid is a small grid including distributed energy resources and loads that can operate independently in the case of emergency of distribution systems. During island operation, the performance requirements of microgrids could be different than those during interconnected operation. To quantify the performance of microgrids, we propose a number of performance indices for voltage quality and reliability.

  • Combined optimisation of design and power management of the hydraulic hybrid propulsion system for the 6 × 6 medium truck
  • 2004
  • Ingår i: International Journal of Vehicle Design. Heavy Vehicle Design. - 1744-232X .- 1741-5152. ; 11:3-4, s. 372-402
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Hybrid propulsion systems are one of the critical technologies on the roadmap to future ultra-efficient trucks. While there is a significant body of work related to hybrid passenger cars and light commercial trucks, there are many open issues related to hybridisation of heavier trucks intended for both on- and off-road use. This work addresses those questions through a systematic analysis of the proposed parallel hydraulic hybrid powertrain for the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV). A representative duty cycle for the FMTV is generated based on information about the typical vehicle mission. A methodology for sequential optimisation of hybrid propulsion and power management systems is applied to a hydraulic hybrid configuration with posttransmission motor location, This analysis is critical in evaluating the fuel economy and mobility potential of the hybrid propulsion system, as well as enhancing our understanding of the phenomena leading to predicted fuel economy values.

  • Mean activity coefficients of NaCl in (sodium chloride + sodium bicarbonate + water) fromT = (293.15 to 308.15) K
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: Journal of Chemical Thermodynamics. - : Elsevier BV. - 0021-9614 .- 1096-3626. ; 33, s. 1107-1119
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The mean activity coefficients of NaCl in (sodium chloride + sodium bicarbonate + water) were determined experimentally in the temperature range 293.15 K to 308.15 K at four NaHCO3 molality fractions (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, and 0.7). The measurements were made with an electrochemical cell, using a Na+ glass ion-selective electrode and a Cl- solid-state ion-selective electrode. The experimental values reported by Butler and Huston are found to be higher than those calculated from the Pitzer equation using the existing parameters while the experimental results of this work are close to the calculated values, up to an NaHCO3 molality fraction of 0.5. At the NaHCO3 molality fraction of 0.7, the experimental data are much lower than the calculated values, implying that the interference of HCO3- on the Na+ glass ion-selective electrode can only be neglected up to a molality fraction of NaHCO3 of 0.5, an observation which is consistent with that of Butler and Huston.

  • Design of an Advanced Heavy Tactical Trucks : A Target Cascading Case Study
  • 2001
  • Ingår i: International Truck and Bus Meeting and Exhibition. - Warrendale, Pa : Society of Automotive Engineers, Incorporated.
  • Konferensbidrag (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The target cascading methodology is applied to the conceptual design of an advanced heavy tactical truck. Two levels are defined: an integrated truck model is represented at the top (vehicle ) level and four independent suspension arms are represented at the lower (system ) level. Necessary analysis models are developed, and design problems are formulated and solved iteratively at both levels. Hence, vehicle design variables and system specifications are determined in a consistent manner. Two different target sets and two different propulsion systems are considered. Trade-offs between conflicting targets are identified. It is demonstrated that target cascading can be useful in avoiding costly design iterations late in the product development process.
