  • 2018
  • Ingår i: Intelligent Environments 2018. - Amsterdam : IOS Press. - 9781614998730 - 9781614998747 ; , s. 371-376
  • Bokkapitel (övrigt vetenskapligt/konstnärligt)abstract
    • This paper presents needs and potentials for wearable sensors inoccupational healthcare. In addition, it presents ongoing European and Swedishprojects for developing personalized, and pervasive wearable systems for assessingrisks of developing musculoskeletal disorders and cardiovascular diseases at work.Occupational healthcare should benefit in preventing diseases and disorders byproviding the right feedback at the right time to the right person. Collected datafrom workers can provide evidence supporting the ergonomic and industrial tasksof redesigning the working environment to reduce the risks.

  • Mechanical testing of interlayer bonding in asphalt pavements
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Advances in Interlaboratory Testing and Evaluation of Bituminous Materials. - Dordrecht : Springer Netherlands. - 9789400751033 ; , s. 303-360
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Steadily increasing requirements on pavement performance properties, in terms of bearing capacity and durability, as well as new innovative developments regarding pavement materials and construction, are observed worldwide. In this context interlayer bonding at the interfaces of multi-layered bituminous systems is recognized as a key issue for the evaluation of the effects, in terms of stress-strain distribution, produced by traffic loads in road pavements. For this reason a correct assessment of interlayer bonding is of primary importance, and research efforts should be addressed in order to improve the lack of correlation and/or harmonization among test methods. Following this principle RILEM TG 4 organized an interlaboratory test in order to compare the different test procedures to assess the interlayer bonding properties of asphalt pavement. The results of the experimental research are presented with a preliminary overview of basic elements, test methods and experimental investigations on interlayer bonding. Then the RILEM TG 4 experimental activities, based on the construction of three real- scale pavement sections, are presented in detail. Each pavement section was composed of two layers, and three different interface conditions were chosen. The first pavement was laid without interface treatment and the others with two different types of emulsion. Fourteen laboratories from 11 countries participated in this study and carried out shear or torque tests on 1,400 cores. The maximum shear or torque load and the corresponding displacement were measured, and the shear or torque strength was calculated as a function of the following parameters: diameter, test temperature, test speed, stress applied normal to the interface and age of the specimen. The results of this study are presented in terms of precision and correlations regarding the parameters which results in useful information on asphalt pavement interlayer bond tests.

    • Traumatic brain injuries (TBI) because of detonations have become a significant problem in military medicine. Partly because the use of modern body protection has increased the survival of victims subjected to detonations from landmines or improvised explosive devices. Detonations commonly expose these victims to pressure waves, high speed fragments, and bodily accelerations. The pressure wave itself may result in a mild TBI, commonly referred to as primary blast, while penetration of fragments into the brain and head rotations resulting from body accelerations can lead to more severe forms of TBI. The details of the cellular injury mechanisms of primary blast are still debated and studies are needed to understand the propagation and effects of the pressure waves inside the skull. Laboratory experiments with good control for physical parameters can provide information that is difficult to retrieve from real-life cases of blast injury. This study focused on head kinematics and pressure propagation into the animal brain cavity during simulated blast trauma (part 1) and the behavioral outcome (part 2). The rat blast model presented here produced maximum intracranial pressure increases of 6 bar while minimal pressure drops. Violent head-to-head restraint contact occurred at approximately 1.7 ms after the pressure pulse reached the head; this contact did not produce any high intracranial pressures. Working memory error was not significantly changed between the exposed and controls at 1 week after blast while significantly more reference memory errors at 5 days and 2 weeks following injury compared to sham after blast.

  • Effect of edge passivated by hydrogen on the transport properties of finite- size metallic carbon nanotube-based molecular devices
  • 2012
  • Ingår i: Advances in Nanodevices and Nanofabrication. - : Pan Stanford Publishing. - 9789814364546 - 9780429100383 ; , s. 153-161
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this chapter, the effect of edge passivated by hydrogen on the electronic and transport properties of the molecular devices of finite-size metallic carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is investigated by using density-functional theory in combination with Green's function method. Three types of hydrogenations are considered for the edge carbon atoms at the two open ends of the CNTs. The calculated energy gap between the highest occupied and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbitals decreases with increasing the length of the CNTs for the three hydrogen-passivated cases, respectively. Nonlinear current-voltage (I-V) curves and quantum conductance have been obtained in all junctions. It is shown that the electronic properties of the finite-size CNTs and the transport properties are sensitive to the passivation types of edge. With increasing the hydrogen passivation concentration of edge carbon atoms, it is indicated that the I-V characteristics have obviously the widening of bandgap and the decreasing of the quantum conductance.

  • A Heuristic Framework for Designing and Exploring Deterministic Routing Algorithm for NoCs
  • 2013
  • Ingår i: Algorithms in Networks-on-Chip. - New York, NY : Springer. - 9781461482734 ; , s. 21-39
  • Bokkapitel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • In this chapter, we present a system-level framework for designing minimal deterministic routing algorithms for Networks-on-Chip (NoCs) that are customized for a set of applications. To this end, we first formulate an optimization problem of minimizing average packet latency in the network and then use the simulated annealing heuristic to solve this problem. To estimate the average packet latency we use a queueing-based analytical model which can capture the burstiness of the traffic. The proposed framework does not require virtual channels to guarantee deadlock freedom since routes are extracted from an acyclic channel dependency graph. Experiments with both synthetic and realistic workloads show the effectiveness of the approach. Results show that maximum sustainable throughput of the network is improved for different applications and architectures.
