  • Development of an electro-chemical accelerated ageing method for leaching of calcium from cementitious materials
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Materials and Structures. - : Springer Science and Business Media LLC. - 1359-5997 .- 1871-6873. ; 49:1-2, s. 705-718
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • To facilitate the long term durability predictions of nuclear waste repositories, acceleration methods enhancing calcium leaching process from cementitious materials are needed, even though mechanisms not necessarily comparable to those predominant in a natural leaching process may be developed. In the previously published acceleration methods the samples are very small, which limits further physical or mechanical tests. In this paper, a new acceleration method based on electro-chemical migration is presented. The method although not driven with the same kinetics as in natural leaching, was designed in such a way that unnecessarily destructive by-effects could be minimized while promoting a higher leaching rate for a sample size suitable for further testing the mechanical and physical properties. It is shown that approximately 1x10^6 C of electrical charge per paste specimen of size Ø50 x 75 mm (approximately 230 g) is required to leach out the total amount of Portlandite. The chemical and mineralogical properties of leached samples are characterized by various techniques. It is concluded that aged samples are comparable to those leached in a natural leaching process as both are characterized by a layered system comprising an unaltered core delineated by total dissolution of Portlandite followed by a progressive decalcification of the calcium silicate hydrate gel.

  • Proactive Assembly Systems – realizing the potential of human collaboration with automation
  • 2009
  • Ingår i: Annual Reviews in Control. - : Elsevier. - 1367-5788 .- 1872-9088. ; 33:2, s. 230-237
  • Forskningsöversikt (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Manufacturing competitiveness frequently relies on company ability to rapidly reconfigure their assembly systems. This paper introduces assembly system proactivity, a concept based on interrelated levels of automation, human competence, and information handling. Increased and structured human involvement contributes to increased system ability to proactively address predicted and unpredicted events. Correct involvement of human operators will utilize the combined potential of human and technical capabilities, providing cost-efficient assembly system solutions. The ProAct project is developing proactive assembly system models and evaluates proactive, feature-based solutions. Focus is on realising the potential of cost-efficient and semi-automated systems with relevant human involvement, i.e. highly skilled operators who add flexibility and functionality.

  • Nitrogen leaching and soil organic carbon sequestration of a Barley crop with improved N use efficiency : A regional case study
  • 2017
  • Ingår i: Acta Agriculturae Scandinavica - Section B. - : Taylor and Francis Ltd.. - 0906-4710 .- 1651-1913. ; 67:7, s. 615-627
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • The potential of modified spring barley crops with improved nitrogen (N) use efficiency to reduce nitrogen (N) leaching and to increase soil organic carbon (SOC) storage was assessed at the regional scale. This was done using simulation model applications designed for reporting according to the Helcom (Helsinki Commission) and Kyoto protocols. Using model simulations based on modified crops N dynamics and SOC were assessed for three agro-ecological regions (latitudes ranging 55°20′–60°40′ N) in Sweden over a 20-year period. The modified N use properties of spring barley were implemented in the SOILNDB model (simulating soil C, N, water and heat, and plant N dynamics) by changing the parameters for root N uptake efficiency and plant N demand within a range given by previous model applications to different crops. A doubling of the daily N uptake efficiency and increased N demand (by ca 30%) reduced N leaching by 24%–31%, increased plant N content by 9%–12%, depending on region. The effects of the modified crop on SOC was simulated with the ICBM model, resulting in an increased SOC content (0–25 cm depth) by 57–79 kg C ha−1 y−1. The results suggest that a modified crop might reduce N leaching from spring barley area, in a range similar to the targets of relevant environmental protection directives, a result which held more in the northern than southern regions. The simulated SOC increase on a hectare basis was highest for the central region and least for the most northern region. For the total agricultural area the share of spring barley area was small and more crops would need to be modified to reach the emission reduction targets.

  • The role of SDN in application centric IP and optical networks
  • 2016
  • Ingår i: Journal of green engineering. - : River Publishers. - 1904-4720 .- 2245-4586. ; 6:3, s. 317-336
  • Tidskriftsartikel (refereegranskat)abstract
    • Transport IP/optical networks are evolving in capacity and dynamicity of configuration. This evolution gives little to no attention to the specific needs of applications, beyond increasing raw capacity. TheACINO concept is based on allowing applications to explicitly specify requirements for requested services in terms of high-level (technology- and configuration-agnostic) requirements such as maximum latency or reliability. These requirements are described using intents and certain primitives which facilitate translation to technology specific configuration within the ACINO infrastructure. To support this application centric approach, SDN has a key role in this evolution. There are representative use cases where SDN gives an added value when considering not only the network but also the application layer.
